Dean and the rat pack days were drawing to an end, of course he would diss the Stones. Elvis dissed the Beatles to the president. Who do you think sold more records, Dean's sales weren't even close. Beatles and Stones were game changers.
Ironically Dean's son's band "Dino, Desi, & Billy" did a cover of "Get Off My Cloud." It was put out on Reprise records which was owned by Frank Sinatra. Same label Jimi Hendrix was on in the USA. :-).
I remember this show. First time I ever saw the Stones. "Not Fade Away" was moving up the charts as summer '64 approached - the Stones first American hit. Shortly after there was a story about a riot they caused in England. This was a first as bands didn't cause riots in this era. The Stones were called "The ugliest band" - imagine that.
What you haters of Dean do not realize, is that by making remarks about these bands, he was KNOWINGLY putting them over to the young demographic, a demographic he was NOWHWERE NEAR interested in gaining. It wasn't so much mean spirited as is actually was a boost to them. Letterman is a prime example of this type of help to newcomers.
Where is Dino's drink? Did he always have a drink in his hand when he did these shows? You would certainly never see THAT on a variety show these days!
Dean Martin - now mostly forgotten. The Stones - still famous, rich and still rocking (Brian rocking in Heaven!!). I think I know who has had the last laugh!!!
@TheHillbillyHermitt1 Finally, the one person in the world who agrees with me. I always felt the Stones died with Exile on Mainstreet, when they shucked their R & B roots and went Hollywood.
I laugh every time i see this vid Dean is just amazing and very funny. I dont think that he could take anything seriously if he tried . Great music too superamos31
I don't have a problem with Martin's remarks. All in fun, all in fun. I saw them on TV on the Ed Sullivan show, Jagger singing Lady Jane, etc. Remember my old man thought it was tsk tsk, boys should clean up their act. But, he drove me and a friend to see them at the San Jose Civic in Dec 65.
@TomFromJersey many years ago, when I was a teenager, I was in line to go into the Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles...and I looked to my right, and standing next to me were Brian Jones and Bill Wyman - two of the scariest looking ppl in the world. lol.. Brian was white as a ghost, sickly looking and very short. I'm only 5'3 and he was about the same. Honestly, I was shocked by their appearance.
@TomFromJersey ermm maybe but back in the 60s he had more girlfriends then jagger and keith combined, he was by far the best looking stone... not my view but ask any girl from the 60s who their biggest crush was and i could almost guarentee Brian would top that poll
Incredible the Stones could get away with this song on American TV in 1964 without having to change the title and lyrics to "I Just Want To Hold Hands With You", or something innocent like that. Dino Martin hip as usual here!
Dean Martin was a complete dick to them, at least The Stones have the brains to write their own songs :L Dean could NEVER have gone on all the record-breaking tours that The Stones have done. Thank god this was shown in black and white to cover up his stupid tan - TWAT.
Dean Martin was a twat, he was drunk most of the time and so up his own ass. Stones fans hated him in the 60s, he represented everything they were rebelling against. Anything for a cheap laugh, eh, Dino?
Why is it that you can't find the entire clip (Not Fade Away - I Just Want To Make Love To You) together on one video. This one video has been removed from youtube more times than I can count.
you can see what happened to all the crooners, theyre dead! Rolling stons blew those guysaway and into oblivion..............................the proof of the pudding is in the

@masterchees98 Harmonicas are only in one key, so if the song changes key, you have to change harmonicas. Notice he only changes when the music does.
