it would be foolish, from the Christmas tree seller all the way to wood suppliers not to replant in a free market economy.Planned or command economies that I visited before the wall fell had no such systems in place, much like the lack of polution control devices and unleaded gas which became available, AFTER the wall fell, and started a FREE economy.
I generally like this series but this one completely misses the boat. In fact, it's outright propaganda. Everyone involved in the supply chain chose to be there because they thought it was in their best interests. If you decide not to buy something because you think someone is being exploited in its production than you just took money our of their pockets. Without your purchases they lose their employment.

@Ajboi89 You should try and do some real research on PCB's and DDT. Two major toxins you have stored in your fat cells. You can bitch all you want about how luck you are to be able to hear the truth.
Wow. So according to this logic, nobody should work, radios should make themselves or just spontaneously appear made of something not found on this earth. And when that happens we should just be able to get it for free because the people who participated in the production of the radio not only didn't receive wages for their efforts, but they even paid the costs of production for us. So sad. I'm going to go and pay my $0.25 a day for that Ethiopian kid now to make me feel better about my iPad.
Now tell me it isn't hypocritical when those fuks that protest for fair trade and not exploiting labour actually wear clothes bout for $20 combined. People who protest about the US abusing other nations really don't know that if it weren't then the price of a pen won't be $0.50 but will be $5 - that's for one of those BIC pens that you throw out. I bet if they got what they wanted they soon will go bankrupt and on the street.
No. They would just buy less, support their communities more, and waste less. That would be a good thing. This planet is fucked if China and India catch up to us with their combines 2 billion plus people. If you don't realize that, you need to look at some numbers.
@kotapaka acutally they would all demand a cost of living increase. and would get paid more with fair trade - but I agree the result would be the same
Wireless power was quickly averted by business men of years past. Free radio too with the power. See the first remote controlled boat, wireless power and control. Yes, it's true. Don't listen to lies about Tesla. He kept good notes. We just can't see them.
This is complete and utter trash. The only truth that came out of her mouth was the fact that we don't TECHNICALLY pay for the production of our goods, we pay MORE than what it costs to produce thing so that the COMPANIES can make this little thing we call PROFIT. this is what they PAY THEIR WORKERS with. And the scariest part of this entire thing, THIS VIDEO IS BEING SHOWN IN SCHOOLS COUNTRY WIDE! There's a test that goes along with it. I'm only 17 and know this. IT'S BASIC ECONOMICS!
this woman is a nut who is wrong on sooooo many levels. I wonder if she truly believes the filth plopping out of her mouth or just a puppet for a socialist movement. Probably a little of both
I am glad to have grown up, educated by great teachers that were smart enough not to allow this kind of shit in their classroom. My teachers and professors taught me that the world is not perfect, make your own opinions about the world, and try to provide solutions to the worlds imperfections. Not once does she offer a solution, nor does she present accurate statistics. Anyone that has had statistics will tell you they can be easily abused and one must do their homework.
what? so you don't like the truth ? The truth hurts doesn't it ? Yeah so you can go ahead and not believe in this and be ignorant no one is pressing you to know this information. there is no law that says that being a moron is a crime so doon't worry.
Never once did I say I didn't believe it. However the majority of the statistics used in the previous clip are not correct. Do the research, we plant more trees than we cut down. My point is this, the world needs solutions not some propaganda saying we have problems. We all know we do! The egg is on you moron, less talk and more action. What kind of image is this portraying to our youth? It is discouraging them before they have an opportunity be become part of the solution.
Oh and don't enjoy that car you drive, or for you more green types, that bike you ride. And don't enjoy the computer you are blasting posts from, or the infrastructure you are connected to. All are done through manufacturing processes. This is how we have evolved as a living organism! By design we were given the ability to do so. I hate these hypocrites. In just the very fact that this film was produced means that she openly supports all of the worlds problems. Look at what it took to make it.
@tke466 we plant more trees than we cut down? My father was a union worker for 30 some plus years and cut down trees everyday for roads and parking lots. He never mentioned once about planting a tree in place of one he cut down. His company never did either. I'd like you to point me toward these numbers about how were planting more than cutting, it would honestly make me feel better if it were true. And who is the royal "We"? the U.S.A. or the whole world? Thank you for any information on this.
So he wasn't in the logging industry? He may not have planted trees but others did. Parks programs, public works, etc. offsetting the loss in different locations. In the United States we plant 33% more trees than we cut down (2002 data). In the statement "we" I am only referencing the US, the rest of the world needs to get with the program. I will not disagree that other countries are being destructive.
@tke466 But we didn't plant nearly as many trees as we cut down in the amazon. Your an idiot as of 12/1/11 you have no real rights if the government decides.
SOCIALIST PROPAGANDA!!!! This lady is a liberal crazy idiot, not only does she not have her facts correct on just about anything, she is funded by a group that is totally against the Constitution. I am a Teacher and can't believe ANY teacher would show this to students. Teacher's you have an obligation to do HOMEWORK also, do not be swayed by the liberals, socialist, the Unions, those against the U.S Constitution, or special interest groups.
wasn't she just going on about how it was awful that we moved all these factories over seas and in the next segment she's yelling how boys in the congo have to drop out and work at the factories? #1: you whine about no jobs and complain when we have them here. . not to mention another subliminal message here about workers having to "cover their own healthcare". Damn straight. I CHOOSE to pick and pay for my own healthcare.
You know, it would just put the cherry on top of this series of videos if it ended with them saying "You know what will help our planet? Supporting INGSOC. Our Great Leader Big Brother will help us through the bad, bad pollutants!"
Amen, sister! Radios should be free for everyone! Hear that Radio Shack? You owe me a radio to make up for all those toxic batteries I bought, which by the way aren't even any good anymore.
i guess if you believe in protecting the environment and not exploiting 3rd world children you must be a communist. why do so many "educated" people buy into this dichotomous thinking? its like you either accept the status quo wall street rape and pillage of the world, or you are looking for stalin part 2. can't we hope for anything better?
Of course, if those kids in the Congo didn't drop out of school to mine metal for the electronics in the camera she's using to make this, I wouldn't be watching this.
Recycled or not... it still had to be produced! 1) The initial production had to be done to get the material from a raw state to a finished product. 2) A recycled good, though more green, still requires materials to convert it back to a finished product. Aluminum cans for instance: It takes an incredible amount of energy to convert the bauxite to aluminum to make the can. However once aluminum it still takes a significant amount of energy to melt it back down and reuse it.
Part 3 has the most science- the science in this whole video makes sense for the most part, it's the political and economic agendas I have mixed opinions on.
Just remember- your computer used up 10 times its weight in oil for its parts to be produced.
I'm nearly speechless. This goes beyond bullshit. Critical thinking has been completely discarded with this video. Actually, pretty much all thinking is absent.
I cant believe that anyone could ignore the simple truth of economies of scale being used to bring down the costs of goods. Ever wonder how Ford brought cars to the masses? The assemply line and economies of scale drastically reduced costs and those costs were no longer passed along to the consumer. Enviros are either ignorant or lying.
You failed to mension that Henry Ford invented a car completely made out of hemp and could run on hemp ethanol !! and that was in the early 1900's Big business mostly Dupont petro company pushed hemp to be illegal. They seen it as a threat to big business cause hemp is a renewable resource and could create everything we know today. The untied states has some of the biggest players in these businesses and they still are.why hemp is illegal ! All these brainwashed people in here WAKE UP
seems unrealistic, but of course $4.99 will cover all that. cheaper products are the result of cheaper production costs. cheaper production costs comes from *bulk* mass production.
additionally, china et. al. would never let the US (let alone Ms. Leonard) from interfering with their labor policies. that's the power of sovereignty.
I'm predisposed to feel sympathetic with this woman's cause, but too much of her presentation is based on emotional arguments instead of fact. At the radio shack, she decided to not purchase the product because 1- she assumed the product and its components were not made in a place where decent health and environmental standards are enforced 2- she assumed it contains toxic and non-recycleable materials 3- she assumed the worker would rather NOT have the job offered. She doesn't know any of this.
crappy factory by what standards? U.S. standards or Mexico's. That is part of the Fallacy. The Video is comparing the world by the standards the United States has. This is outlined in "The world is Flat" by Thomas L. Friedman. A very good book about understanding the globalization of the world economy. Friedman also provides a workable definition of Distribution and externalized costs. It is unfair of Americans to define what is middle-class for other nations.
Well, where to start? Ch 4 starts with making up false definitions of distribution and externalized cost. This would the fallacy of poisoning the well or maybe red herring. It does not take into consideration that that 15 year old in Mexico is the only wage earner for her family and is now able to feed her brothers and sisters. Why doesn't the speaker look for a radio made in the US this make the speaker guilt of hasty generalization. Wow, the waste of time and effort on this otherwise good vid
the point made in the earlier vid is that the 15 year old wouldn't be forced to work at a crappy factory in the first place if all this shit wasn't going on. And i don't know how you can say 'false definitions of distribution and externalized cost' - what is there that you can argue with, she just outlines the things that have to happen to end up with a product, plain and simple.
if inflation happened because the stores charged more for there products, the value of money would go down and be worthless, so making more would mean nothing. because everyone would be making more. the more money average people make in mass, the stores charge more which results in the money holding the same value as b4.
there's a reson why the radio is only $4.99. lets say it really costs $200 to make a radio. you cant charge the average person that much money, cause they don't have that kind of spare change lying around the house. so if businesses started charging the so called real prices, the gov. would print more money causing inflation and money would be worth nothing and inflation is always followed by recession and sometimes depression. besides, the economy is bad already.
That's capitalism...not all economic systems works the same way. Ask the Norwegians or the Swiss if they consume as much as as Americans do. Consumerism is a trap. You should find a balance between economy and not ruining your future.
Economies of scale can account for some of the low costs. But the whole enchilada is made super-cheap when laborers are exploited to make the product, and housed in cement cubicles in some factory "elsewhere". We lost a factory making vacuums to Mexico, and they in turn lost it to China, all following the path of maximum exploitation. True, economies of scale and competition, but fair treatment of workers, fair trade, and a fair market process - an honest referee must set down fair rules.
Trying to pin down exactly who's petroleum went into which truck, or into what engine for some part of the production or shipping of a product would be a logistical nightmare! The point is, the raw materials are often extracted well below costs to the environment, or with regards to the well-being of those involved in the working end of the equation.
This just doesn't seem right. Why aren't people ready to buy fairtrade and ecoproducts, pay for Saving the the third world countries and and our planet? They're scrooging on their money just to pay a little less?
If I can get a "Made in Taiwan" shirt for $2 less than a "Made in America" shirt, I'm gonna get the lowest price of the same quality 1st. I work for a living and canot afford to pay extra money because you don't think it is fair. I don't care if buying from Walmart is gonna put another busines out of busines. If the competitor won't give me a lower price then I won't shop there. Not everything in life is fair, and life isn't supposed to be fair. Move to a communist country & dnt complain hater.
They are taking the jobs away from Americans by creating "stuff" from other countries. Sure you can only think of poor you, compassion is not in your vocabulary, and like you there are many and that is why the owners of this planet are getting away with what they are. When the New World Order arrives we know who we have to thank, Capitalism will turn into Marxism, that is their plans, but you are unaware of what is going on. Mark my words you will live to regret your mentality.
It doesn't mater if the product is made in this country or not. I wil buy the same item of the same quality for les money. I'm not wiling to spend more just because the product is made here. The other thing is under your logic, if I'm building something I need powertols and building materials I need to go to every hardware store and buy my drill at one place, my bits at another, my saw at another, the blade at another, the power cord at one place, and my materials at anothers. Just to keep jobs.
Do you not realize what they are doing? Why should we have to have our business outside of our country it is all about globalization, one world government, they are trying to destroy the US.
Also. Buying producst from another country benefits me and the workers in that country. Its not that we will be led into Marxism, but a constantly changing economy. The law of natural selection says that the strong will survive and the weak will die. Don't hate, but learn to adapt and strive for success inside of it.If you cannot do that, then you wil just become another dinosaur. There is plenty of opportunity in the world. Learn to listen for its knocking and this country will do just fine.
The law of natural selection is not up to the elite to mandate. I don't hate my brother, I am all about love, uniting, compassion and awakening lost souls. It is not about opporutunity, it is about humanity and respecing what our creator has given us and not destroying it. We need to think of others not just ourselves.
The problem with anti-capitalist socialist liberals is that they want the world, and life, to be fair and perfect. They don't want any hardship or adversity, and the governments of the world to take care of all their needs. In the end they only condemn and offer no real solutions.
The real solution is not for the government to bale us out, but instead, we are the solution. We need to care more, buy less, and think about someone else beside our self. It can be done. I left the big city, move to a small town, I walk everywhere, buy my food from the local farmers market, and I have stopped consuming junk. I am happier and free. We the people need to fire our governmental officials, tare down the big corps and live the simple, happy life.
I guess I'll have go tell my economics teacher that everything we studied is wrong. That the real reason big stores are cheap has nothing to do with scale economics, offer, demand or exchange rates, but is instead exclusively a product of exploiting everyone involved.
No, just because it is on you tube, it means that there are people who are aware of what is going on, who have taken the time to do their home work, and stop allowing the media and system to control their minds. Things on you tube are mind opening agendas, to help people stop being sheeples.
What you don't keep in mind that this documentary is very slanted and biased towards anitcapitolism and heavily biased towards socialism. Just because a person does their "homework" doesn't mean that the view point is valid, rational, or logical. Forget the statistics and think of the motives behind the video. Its easier to yell "Those evil corporations treat the helpless poor people so unfairly!", than to actually think logically and rationally about what they are really saying.
Slanted and bias? Are you for real, look around you, look at what is happening to our world. It is not about the poor people it is about all of us, we are being led to slaughter. Sheeples wake up, we are killing our enviroment for "stuff". Greed is a terrible thing, we don't need so much shit. Simplify and learn to find the answers with in. Our civilization is wrong and in need of correction. It has been tainted by the mighty dollar.
We are killing our environment? I live near a swamp that has been polluted by run off. I've seen streams that always have oil floating on the surface from run off. The interesting thing is that nature still thrives. As much as people say that we are killing things, the truth is that we aren't. As far as greed is concerned; what do you consider greed? Do you measure it by the amount of toys I have, or how much more money your boss or company owner has more of than you? Who r you to say?
We are harming our environment, mother earth is a living organism and because of mindless, selfish attitude, we are ruining the future habitat for the next generations. Greed is wanting more than what you need, in the expense of others. I am an awakened soul of this planet who refuses to allow empty hearted people like yourself to destroy our lives, that is who I am. The Blood shed that money and greed has caused should be everyone's concern. You are in denial sir.
once we close the factories, i suggest we take all the factory owners and top-level managers and lock them in a landfill and force them to live there for about a decade, along with all the ceo's and top-level managers of wal-mart.
think about the mind-set of the sick fuckers who developed a system like this and who dedicate their entire lives to its smooth running. it's enough to make you wanna go postal. time to close all the factories and return to sensible, sustainable living.
It shows that people with this mindset are really ignorant of the entire picture. That $5.00 radio created jobs in other countries and sustained jobs in the U.S. The other thing that you are being distracted from by this anti-capitalist mindset is that if the cost of the radio was $10 or $15 dollars, then the consumer would be forced to either not buy the radio and take away jobs from other people, or spend the money and have less money to spend on stuff like food or even to put in the bank.
Yes, but why would they have been working in factories, if the corporations didn't get to them, buy their land for pennies on the dollar, then use the resources until the only available jobs were in factories? They had jobs before, tabletop, like farming and medicine. They didn't nee factory jobs until we came along.
Golly. We are so evil that they are being forced to take jobs they don't need? So the fact that those evil corps go into poor countries and give poor people jobs that they didn't have previously is a lie?
If that kid didn't need to work then that kid wouldn't be working. Why blame those evil corporations for the kid working in that evil factory when there are deeper reasons that kid needs to work? Don't you think of one second that it is the country that doesn't care about that kid who has to work instead of the company he works for?
Part of the point is that this system isn't really doing much for the kid or the planet, no matter how much anyone "cares" about what's happening. Point is we need to step back and come up with a big picture solution that has people working, and healthy, and happy in a way that can keep going "forever". The current system doesn't do that. There are lots of different ways to get to a viable solution, but the first step is to look at what we've got and decide "we can do better than this"
Because we can keep our factories in the us instead of underpaying and exploting childern.Childern who deserve education and our government could stop being asses. Dont just talk do reaerch before commenting.
Then you'll complain that prices are too high. It really isn't my problem that children in another country have to work instead of going to school. The way I see it, that child would end up working for dirt in a rice patty or doing some other form of manual labor anyway. We aren't the problem. If anyone is to blame its the people who run the shitty country that child lives in for not helping its people create a productive, stable, and thriving economy so that child wouldn't have to work.
You obviously dont noe anything about economics or our governement system. The reason other countries are shitty is because our government is based on racism and explotation of other governments and countries. Read a book or watch the news before you make such iggnorant opinons and just be grateful your not in that position where you have to work for cheap labor.
I do know something about economics and our gov. People who are taken advantage of are taken advantage of because they allow themselves to be. In the case of the child, he has no choice which is sad, but you are pointing the finger at the wrong people. Its not the US's job to educate and employ the world. Thats the job of the people of the country they live in. If a child needs to work to live, then there are huge problems in that country. Blame the ones in power over there for doing nothing.
Its partly our problem because we can do things better... we have so much potential and have such a better life but we dont give a shit about others because of the way the new worlds growing.. i dont think thats right
I don't think it matters whose fault it is. All that matters is that it sucks and we could make it better by dreaming up systems of production that make everybody happy: the earth and the people in it.
Amazing....I doubt it would ever make it there....but it should be showed to adults and kids in school to stop this insane cycle of destruction...ugh....I need a shower. :S
Seems to me that the only thing a lot of you are worried about is bashing one another, but come on my peoples, you can do more than just be apathetic privileged white Americans,(of course POC folks also fall into this category but i dare say most of you are white,I infer this cuz your comments are a lot of time oblivious to the concerns of my peoples living in these so called ThirdWorld nations)Join environmental justice groups, organize youth, create sustainable communities. Conserven el ambiente.
This is a great series of videos. Everything about it is true. Granted, capitalism brings many great things to us. We must be smart enough to see, however, that this world has only a finite amount of resources and, with our affluence here in America, we're taking more than our share of resources and leaving others with shit.
I should also point out that she completely glosses over the fact that the value of all goods are relative, and are decided on an individual level. What she describes as being "externalized costs" are merely arbitrary extra costs that she thinks the company should pay. It would be impossible (and dangerous) to have a centralized power (such as herself) making the decisions for how individuals make a transactions.
She's not saying we should pay for those extra costs, and the fact that the value of goods is relative is common knowledge. Just because you didn't hear it verbalized doesn't mean that that fact is being 'glossed over'.
People react so angrily to this simple obvious argument mainly because they have NO IDENTITY apart from their role as consumers; they work as service providers, make nothing concrete, have no means of self expression (no, your clothes, car and hair don't count) and spend their time buying mass-produced junk. If you take it away; what are they; NOTHING.
I'm upset about this piece because it pisses all over the idea of individualism and personal responsibility. If I buy a product (such as "consumer whore" products like Nike), it is because I made the personal decision to do so, not because I am a helpless zombie that is easily manipulated.
It is insulting to label me as having "No Identity" based solely on what I buy, even if that happens to be Nike, Burger King, and other corporate objects.,
I've known few people like you who actually make their purchases as a conscious "personal choice." However, if you just take some time to see around, you will realize that, mostly, people buy things to conform, to belong, to feel better about themselves and to justify the lack of meaning in their lives. The call here is not to stop buying, but to learn to separate real need from simple desire to acquire.
I buy (consume) things occasionally to fill my self-esteem needs, like DVDs or tickets to a musical, does that make me less of a person? Heck, I'm pretty sure I "conform" in certain areas of culture too; although certain aspects of my personality are unique (as are everyones) when it comes to fashion, I just blindly pick stuff off the rack at Old Navy, does that make me less of a person? Do either of those actions warrant me, or anyone, being condescended at?
If you buy things ocassionally, then you should not bother feeling "condescended" at. I didn't, the segment did not strike my nerve, but it seemed to have striken yours.
Listen to what this garbage movie is saying.. LOL.. that is so funny... we need to pay for our own Insurance! Humm how can we? if we don't make nothing?
Folks, you send money to this lady... you might as well flush it down the toilet.
Wow...that's not what she said at all. She didn't say we need to pay for our own health insurance, she said we DO pay for our own health care because companies DON'T pay for health insurance. And how can we if we don't make anything? That's the point. Millions die without health insurance because we CAN'T.
Vendor 1212, so your message in that this is not valid because it makes you feel inferior and unhappy?
Being selfish and proud of it is a quality of yours and that is "your view on life"?
A plan would be for you to stop wasting resources and just be rational with your energy usage. How about that for starters. A simple plan you can follow through.

This video is appalling. It just criticizes and criticizes. She complains about how modern advertisements make us feel inferior and unhappy, BUT THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS VIDEO IS DOING. She is making us feel bad, because we have a different view of life. THIS VIDEO IS AN ADVERTISEMENT. Instead of saying "buy a new TV", it says "BUY MY WAY OF LIFE". All of these alarmists just criticize. I would be elated to help save the planet, if people stopped criticizing and start PROPOSING A FEASIBLE PLAN.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The message of these videos is well meaning but the video is full of B.S! The oil was PROBABLY gotten from Iraq? No no. Saudi Arabia is the leading oil producer and the producers KNOW IT! They were simply making a CHEAP pollitical point. Go back to school greenies.
yeah and if none of that happened you wouldnt have a job talking about it..the only solution is to live natural and be simple again as a world

Look at what it took to make it.
tke466 2 years ago
@tke466 we plant more trees than we cut down? My father was a union worker for 30 some plus years and cut down trees everyday for roads and parking lots. He never mentioned once about planting a tree in place of one he cut down. His company never did either. I'd like you to point me toward these numbers about how were planting more than cutting, it would honestly make me feel better if it were true. And who is the royal "We"? the U.S.A. or the whole world? Thank you for any information on this.
sumadartson 1 year ago 3
So he wasn't in the logging industry? He may not have planted trees but others did. Parks programs, public works, etc. offsetting the loss in different locations. In the United States we plant 33% more trees than we cut down (2002 data). In the statement "we" I am only referencing the US, the rest of the world needs to get with the program. I will not disagree that other countries are being destructive.

but how do u actually know that for a fact that camer wasnt made from recycled materials?
Killzillastudios 2 years ago
Recycled or not... it still had to be produced! 1) The initial production had to be done to get the material from a raw state to a finished product. 2) A recycled good, though more green, still requires materials to convert it back to a finished product. Aluminum cans for instance: It takes an incredible amount of energy to convert the bauxite to aluminum to make the can. However once aluminum it still takes a significant amount of energy to melt it back down and reuse it.

I cant believe that anyone could ignore the simple truth of economies of scale being used to bring down the costs of goods. Ever wonder how Ford brought cars to the masses? The assemply line and economies of scale drastically reduced costs and those costs were no longer passed along to the consumer. Enviros are either ignorant or lying.
russttu 2 years ago

Buddmac 2 years ago
Well, where to start? Ch 4 starts with making up false definitions of distribution and externalized cost. This would the fallacy of poisoning the well or maybe red herring. It does not take into consideration that that 15 year old in Mexico is the only wage earner for her family and is now able to feed her brothers and sisters. Why doesn't the speaker look for a radio made in the US this make the speaker guilt of hasty generalization. Wow, the waste of time and effort on this otherwise good vid
Buddmac 2 years ago
the point made in the earlier vid is that the 15 year old wouldn't be forced to work at a crappy factory in the first place if all this shit wasn't going on.

Jej171 3 years ago
there's a reson why the radio is only $4.99. lets say it really costs $200 to make a radio. you cant charge the average person that much money, cause they don't have that kind of spare change lying around the house. so if businesses started charging the so called real prices, the gov. would print more money causing inflation and money would be worth nothing and inflation is always followed by recession and sometimes depression. besides, the economy is bad already.
Jej171 3 years ago
That's capitalism...not all economic systems works the same way. Ask the Norwegians or the Swiss if they consume as much as as Americans do. Consumerism is a trap. You should find a balance between economy and not ruining your future.

the capture the cost by economies of scale. they make so many radios at once that they can distribute the fixed cost of the radio to lower the cost
britshell 3 years ago

Mark my words you will live to regret your mentality.
markangeloc 3 years ago
It doesn't mater if the product is made in this country or not. I wil buy the same item of the same quality for les money. I'm not wiling to spend more just because the product is made here. The other thing is under your logic, if I'm building something I need powertols and building materials I need to go to every hardware store and buy my drill at one place, my bits at another, my saw at another, the blade at another, the power cord at one place, and my materials at anothers. Just to keep jobs.
tabletopphoto 3 years ago
Do you not realize what they are doing? Why should we have to have our business outside of our country it is all about globalization, one world government, they are trying to destroy the US.
markangeloc 3 years ago
Learn to listen for its knocking and this country will do just fine.
tabletopphoto 3 years ago
The law of natural selection is not up to the elite to mandate. I don't hate my brother, I am all about love, uniting, compassion and awakening lost souls. It is not about opporutunity, it is about humanity and respecing what our creator has given us and not destroying it. We need to think of others not just ourselves.
markangeloc 3 years ago
The problem with anti-capitalist socialist liberals is that they want the world, and life, to be fair and perfect. They don't want any hardship or adversity, and the governments of the world to take care of all their needs. In the end they only condemn and offer no real solutions.
tabletopphoto 3 years ago
The real solution is not for the government to bale us out, but instead, we are the solution. We need to care more, buy less, and think about someone else beside our self. It can be done. I left the big city, move to a small town, I walk everywhere, buy my food from the local farmers market, and I have stopped consuming junk. I am happier and free. We the people need to fire our governmental officials, tare down the big corps and live the simple, happy life.

Yikes. This video series is going downhill fast.

Go figure.

tabletopphoto 3 years ago
No, just because it is on you tube, it means that there are people who are aware of what is going on, who have taken the time to do their home work, and stop allowing the media and system to control their minds. Things on you tube are mind opening agendas, to help people stop being sheeples.
markangeloc 3 years ago
What you don't keep in mind that this documentary is very slanted and biased towards anitcapitolism and heavily biased towards socialism. Just because a person does their "homework" doesn't mean that the view point is valid, rational, or logical. Forget the statistics and think of the motives behind the video. Its easier to yell "Those evil corporations treat the helpless poor people so unfairly!", than to actually think logically and rationally about what they are really saying.
tabletopphoto 3 years ago
Slanted and bias? Are you for real, look around you, look at what is happening to our world. It is not about the poor people it is about all of us, we are being led to slaughter. Sheeples wake up, we are killing our enviroment for "stuff". Greed is a terrible thing, we don't need so much shit. Simplify and learn to find the answers with in. Our civilization is wrong and in need of correction. It has been tainted by the mighty dollar.
markangeloc 3 years ago
We are killing our environment? I live near a swamp that has been polluted by run off. I've seen streams that always have oil floating on the surface from run off. The interesting thing is that nature still thrives. As much as people say that we are killing things, the truth is that we aren't. As far as greed is concerned; what do you consider greed? Do you measure it by the amount of toys I have, or how much more money your boss or company owner has more of than you? Who r you to say?
tabletopphoto 3 years ago
We are harming our environment, mother earth is a living organism and because of mindless, selfish attitude, we are ruining the future habitat for the next generations. It shows that people with this mindset are really ignorant of the entire picture. That $5.00 radio created jobs in other countries and sustained jobs in the U.S. The other thing that you are being distracted from by this anti-capitalist mindset is that if the cost of the radio was $10 or $15 dollars, then the consumer would be forced to either not buy the radio and take away jobs from other people, or spend the money and have less money to spend on stuff like food or even to put in the bank.
tabletopphoto 3 years ago
Yes, but why would they have been working in factories, if the corporations didn't get to them, buy their land for pennies on the dollar, then use the resources until the only available jobs were in factories? They had jobs before, tabletop, like farming and medicine. They didn't nee factory jobs until we came along.
zintata 3 years ago
Golly. We are so evil that they are being forced to take jobs they don't need? So the fact that those evil corps go into poor countries and give poor people jobs that they didn't have previously is a lie?
tabletopphoto 3 years ago
So, we forgo a 5 dollar radio we don't need and the kid in the congo doesn't fuck up his life?
parkingst0nes 3 years ago
If that kid didn't need to work then that kid wouldn't be working. Why blame those evil corporations for the kid working in that evil factory when there are deeper reasons that kid needs to work? Don't you think of one second that it is the country that doesn't care about that kid who has to work instead of the company he works for?
tabletopphoto 3 years ago
Part of the point is that this system isn't really doing much for the kid or the planet, no matter how much anyone "cares" about what's happening. Point is we need to step back and come up with a big picture solution that has people working, and healthy, and happy in a way that can keep going "forever". The current system doesn't do that. There are lots of different ways to get to a viable solution, but the first step is to look at what we've got and decide "we can do better than this"

Then you'll complain that prices are too high. It really isn't my problem that children in another country have to work instead of going to school. The way I see it, that child would end up working for dirt in a rice patty or doing some other form of manual labor anyway. We aren't the problem. If anyone is to blame its the people who run the shitty country that child lives in for not helping its people create a productive, stable, and thriving economy so that child wouldn't have to work.
tabletopphoto 3 years ago
You obviously dont noe anything about economics or our governement system. The reason other countries are shitty is because our government is based on racism and explotation of other governments and countries. cookieju119 3 years ago 2

I should also point out that she completely glosses over the fact that the value of all goods are relative, and are decided on an individual level. What she describes as being "externalized costs" are merely arbitrary extra costs that she thinks the company should pay. It would be impossible (and dangerous) to have a centralized power (such as herself) making the decisions for how individuals make a transactions.
bluebettle 4 years ago
She's not saying we should pay for those extra costs, and the fact that the value of goods is relative is common knowledge. Just because you didn't hear it verbalized doesn't mean that that fact is being 'glossed over'.

People react so angrily to this simple obvious argument mainly because they have NO IDENTITY apart from their role as consumers; they work as service providers, make nothing concrete, have no means of self expression (no, your clothes, car and hair don't count) and spend their time buying mass-produced junk. If you take it away; what are they; NOTHING.
steerpike66 4 years ago 3
I'm upset about this piece because it pisses all over the idea of individualism and personal responsibility. If I buy a product (such as "consumer whore" products like Nike), it is because I made the personal decision to do so, not because I am a helpless zombie that is easily manipulated.
It is insulting to label me as having "No Identity" based solely on what I buy, even if that happens to be Nike, Burger King, and other corporate objects.,

However, if you just take some time to see around, you will realize that, mostly, people buy things to conform, to belong, to feel better about themselves and to justify the lack of meaning in their lives.

I though I'd make you a video reply with some parts taken from this whole story.

Most people can afford health insurance. They aren't the victim of government or "big corporations", but of themselves.

The message of these videos is well meaning but the video is full of B.S! The oil was PROBABLY gotten from Iraq? No no. Saudi Arabia is the leading oil producer and the producers KNOW IT! They were simply making a CHEAP pollitical point. Go back to school greenies.
