  • Only Paul Gilbert can have a DNA string.

  • There WE go?!!! No. There YOU go!!!

  • I read the top comments before watching the video and thought that they were just bad at guitar. Then I watched 1:33 on...

  • His guitar sounds 8 bit

  • I need a highspeedcam for this lesson !!!

  • all within the pentatonic and totally graspable : yet somehow i'm having a little trouble trying to......

  • Gilbert has an amazing sound

  • fuck. this is so confusing :(

  • Did this fucking guy just BLUR an digital camera...?

*sigh* ...Have you ever been so amazed by something that it PISSES you off...?

  • "let's go back to the regular pentatonic scale" *starts shredding like a motherf**ker*

    "there we go" :D

  • Show off.

  • @PepJuice U jelly?

  • Oh........sooo.....that's how you do it. I understand completely.

  • show off !!!

  • DNA string :)

  • "there we go" at the end he says LOL...no Paul, there YOU go not 'we' lol

love watchin the Gilbert fly over that fretboard

  • Paul gilbert never disappoints you :P. He takes such a simple lick and makes it into a masterpiece.1000 thumbs up for you :).

  • Makes you wanna try harder and give up at the same time

  • first part of the vid. "hmm.. yea.. i can do this".. then he starts playing.. " WTF WAS THAT?!?" haha.. Ur the best man

  • yup

  • THE BEST

  • PAUL GILBERT IS AMAZING

  • Oh män...it would be very important for a beginner to know how to use the plek in this riff...i tried but its not the same as i hear it in this video....

  • 2:00 Whaaat?

  • "i like that one"

its like he's learning a lick from himself. O.O

  • i love paul. he seems like the nicest guitarist ever, seriously i cnt imagine this guy angry

  • the problem with these vid is that they forget we are mere mortals.

  • This is a lesson... seems more like a meth-induced wank off.

  • When I said string skipping is completely bogus , I did mean when your note is on the next string over but you skipped a string to get the same note.

that's when It's bogus to me.

if your note is not close enough and you have to skip a string to find it , I don't call that bogus string skipping.

    I hope that clarifies.

  • yep it's an excersize to build precission.

What ever new riff comes pauls way he seems to like to fuse it with his signature riff.

String skipping is completely bogus and I don't wanna see that.

With that being said , I like to just think about new riffs as applies to the entire mode.

  • i just laugh when i watch this man play. not because i think its bad, hes one of my all time favorite guitar players and has been consistently since i started playing. but i laugh, just because of how fucking talented he is, and how easy he makes it look. it just makes me happy

  • @SuperToother haha I'm the same way man. It helps because he's a good teacher, and he breaks down what he's doing slowly. And then "okay let's try this" - WARP SPEED - "no big deal". It's hilarious.

  • I wonder what the crew thought oh this

  • Ahhh.....jeez man.

  • stupid pentatonic rock licks!

  • now i know paul gilbert is a 9inches long pinky hahaha

  • "Hopefully it won't be too confusing, I don't think it is." Well that might be because you are Paul Gilbert.

  • There we go.... Whats this we shit there you go.

  • haha triviums betcha cant play this song sucks against this pentatonic from gilbert

  • "There we go"??? You lost me on that last part.

  • 1:49 what the hell man.

  • I wan't to be his friend, but not in a weird way

  • Damn I never knew pentatonics could kick that much ass.

  • @ninesilverguns Half of music history on guitars is based upon pentatonics, or at least the whole-half and half-whole step intervals.

  • *crys*

  • 1:49 is what annihilation sounds like

  • He looks like Beck.

  • Problem? :))

  • wtf paul,wtf paul

  • this man literally makes his guitar sound like pacman using a clean channel

    wtf?

  • @urdumbfoo

    lol yeah

  • where is the previous lesson? imean the ascending?

  • like a swarm of bees....fukin love it...

  • Wtf !

  • Fuck you Paul, just fuck you.

  • what do you want to do, play music or impress your friends? Music is not a racing car, is not about speed, its about melody, rhythm and harmony.

  • @loombaron People like you just break my balls. Its ovbious that you just dont get the music genre and dont have the ability to play it, or u are just too lazy to improve your technique. Whatever...

  • If this is your favorite genre and you like speed and all that metal shit you have a bad taste in music, sorry to tell you man, musically speaking you are fucked up.

  • @loombaron quite obvious that this comes from a fucking retard who is unable to play anything but minor pentatonic in one position. and your channel confirmed it. besides, a savage like you isn't exactly the kind of person who is allowed to judge my music taste

  • david gilmour solos are just the pentatonic scale and are far beyond everything gilbert did and my you tube channel can go to hell I dont give a shit, I just use it for fun. and my girlfriend like that savage thing when we have sex ;)

  • @loombaron You "my friend" are a poor MEDIOCRE. Dont be sorried about what you said to me because i give a f*ck. Metal is totally not my fav genre, though i really like listening to these guitars and composers "monsters". And who do you think you are to tell me that iam " musically fucked up". I play guitar since i was 8 and enjoy everything from Classical to Metal or Electronic. Enjoy your mediocrity.

  • we are in the same bag

  • @tgolba90 So true.

  • @loombaron Hahahaha, You are so incredibly ignorant that it's funny. Do you like classical music?

  • first you tell me Im ignorant and the you ask me if I like classical music. Yes I like Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Vivaldi, Bach,Beethoven, Joseph Haydn, Liszt, Chopin. My sister is an opera singer so I had the chance to see various operas in my local theatre, la boheme by Puccini and Aida by Verdi are my favorites.

  • @loombaron Ok... Nevermind then,

  • damn, what´s wrong with the americans? I got relatives who live there and tell me you are all crazy XD-

  • @loombaron If you listen to Paul's music you will hear all of those things, he is one of the few guitar players who puts rhythm and melody into fast pieces.

  • @loombaron "Music is not a racing car, is not about speed,". Say that to Paco de Lucia, Mclaughlin or even the fuckin Hendrix. You may even dont know the first two i mentioned. I recommend you to read some Ayn Rand because you are mentally fucked up

  • @sickened18 hahahah hell yeah!

  • The words FUCK and ME spring to mind!

  • what happened at the end there, paul?

  • amazing what you do with a pentatonic

  • god damn awesome!

  • I like that one.

  • He is always in such a good mood, and with friendly atittude. And at the same time,he shred peoples face off.

  • @Nevigo this was what got me the most, actually!

  • 10 guys are better with their dick than their guitar.

  • I said the same shit nick lmaoooo

  • fuck you paul gilbert fuck you lol

  • wicked tone. This guy is pretty good, though I think it's better played slower.

  • for anyone interested: buy yourself Guthrie govans creative guitar 1&2, it is such a great practice and study guide.

  • What a cheater! Look at the length of his pinky!

  • Damn that was fast

  • does tgtv actually have a website

  • He looks like Jeff Goldblum.

  • omfg ! is all i have to say

  • ah, there we go. LOL

  • he is such a bad ass

  • In a A Minor Pentatonic Scale.

    Thats cool.

  • 1:50 .....there we go

  • @HereisNathaniel don't be discouraged, Django Reinhardt, he got in a accident and could only use two fingers on his fret hand, still he was a gypsy jazz legend.

  • 1:12 - 1:14 on the run O:

  • With all of that shredding and godness I forgot what was this lesson about. PG is a fucking god.

  • "I like that!" *KGAEKHJVQWHLDDHKLAGKVASGI* Holy shit.

  • "There we go" ....WTF?...I just sneezed and missed that. :P

  • @hipi781 im super 100% with you...i hate guitar now

  • "there we go." lol

  • @HereisNathaniel I have the same problem, look up Marty Friedman, in my eyes one of the greatest guitar players with quite small hands :p

  • @GetoutofMyYard1 or look at joe satriani, also a extrem good guitar player with not very long fingers. he also got some serious skills

  • paul gilbert has a serious problem!!

  • I like that one....it's a cool lick.

  • My cat's breath smells like cat food......

  • @MrPelicanPants lmfao

  • @Lekiwi33 Haha, I mean really what else is there to say when watching the almighty Paul Gilbert LOL!

  • I like how at the end he says "and try this together" and then goes off on a shred tangent, lol.

  • Paul Gilbert is so Cool that he likes his own lesson! hahaha

  • i like the coordination of his 3rd and 4th finger, i am stop with making coordination with my 3rd and 4th finger which is very hard to get

  • Fuck man, only Paul gilbert can make difficult a pentatonic scale

  • it looks like the video is speeded up when you see his fingers moving but you know its not, he's simply fckin amazing!

  • WHY CAN'T MY PINKY BE AS LONG AS MY INDEX FINGER LIKE PAUL GILBERT :(

  • the end... holy shit.

  • You know, once you understand his picking, his Patterns and playing all make so much sense. Thats just me though. I knew the major scale forwards and back, inwards and out from watching Joe Satriani lessons at workshoplive. Combine that with Paul's picking and "....oh...my....god....YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!" Ultra Speed Death mode INITIATE!

  • @ShadowLancer128 What's his picking patterns ? :D

  • @giasou55 Well his strumming is the tricky part. His note choice is realy the same as Satriani. Very favorable or lenient towards the Ionian mode (Major Scale) and Pentatonic scale. Minor (aeolian mode) used occasionally.

His picking is leaning towards a typical pedal note. i.e. A two string excercise where, Two notes are played on the bottom string, and a higher note on the higher string is hit. This reinforces the bass line, and adds an extreme tension into the melody (Harmony / chord prog.)

  • @ShadowLancer128 Hey thanks ! :)

  • From there he varies his picking greatly. Maintaining his usual two string excercise, He'll play a note on the higher string (whatever it may be) and hammer A note on the lower string using his picking because his other 3 fingers are maintaining a box scale position. He really just changes his picking. ALOT. but uses the same shapes, and patterns of note choice.

  • @ShadowLancer128 You seem to have studied his style a lot . Great info thank you again .

  • No Prob. I actually Studied Satriani for Years. Then I studied Pauls picking technique, how he holds it, + once I figured the picking out omg. My Jaw met the floor and My eyes flew open like (8^O)

I instantly knew how Paul did all of his shredding, how Satriani was able to fly all over his fretboard so effortlessly.

By making the picking easier, you allow the left hand to do anything it wants. Because your brain isnt going "Ow my thumb" every time you strum, Your brain goes now do this faster!

  • @ShadowLancer128 I actually find the right hand [picking ] really harder than the left one . Do you have any tips to get better at picking ? It seems to make my playing sloppy . Do you have anything to suggest ? Sorry to ask so many things but I really wanna get better lol . Thanks a lot , I really appreciate it .

  • His picking speed is what's difficult about his style. ok.

Put the pick on the side of your index finger. Hold it there with the fingerprint side of your thumb. This is how Paul Holds his pick.

For Speed; Grab any perfectly flat surface. Begin picking (strumming) on the surface. left, right, left right. left, right. COMFORTABLY! start where, when, and how YOU want to. As you get comfy with your speed, increase tempo little by little. This will work out your strumming speed (like at a gym!)

  • @ShadowLancer128 Hahaha one of the luckiest days in my life ! Thanks man :DDD!!

  • @giasou55 :)

    Friend Me + Subscribe? :D

  • @ShadowLancer128 Yep !!
