The connection is between the ring and the Federal Reserve--the one bank to rule them all, forged in the shadows of Jekyl Island (starting to see my line of thinking here?). Perry/Boromir, Gingrich/Gimli, and the others want to use its power to defeat their evil enemies. Only Paul/Gandalf has the wisdom to destroy it. You might even want to throw Obama in there as Gollum. I'd say that the Fed is definitely his "precious".
