  • @HappinessAWAITS Hi Happiness, using the dominant 7 chord as the basic structure, for Bb you have Bb to D, C to Ab, C to Eb, D to Bb. In the dominant 7 chord the 7th is flatted, making Ab instead of A. All the other scale tones are in the key of Bb, NOT the blues scale. Begin each phrase on the root notes based on the chord changes presented at the beginning of the exercise. Good Luck!

  • @tromboneJTS Wow thanks but that REALLY confused me.

  • @tromboneJTS After thinking and playing for about 5 minutes with that I get it now, thanks!!

  • What are ascending&descending 3rds?

  • That is a really useful guide. Thank you.

  • @potatoehead64 It was an attempt to show how one could consider improvising outside of the standard Blues or minor pentatonic scales. I found the Blues scale relatively repetitive and eventually uninteresting.

  • by b7 do you mean flat 7? jw

  • @Collyo20 Yes, b7 would be the flatted seventh for the chord. The root chords are listed at the beginning of the video and are repeated each 12 bars like a standard blues.

  • thanks so much ......

  • @2008matusa Hi. Thanks for your comment. Hope the video helped.

  • You are so amazing! I have played Trombone for 5 years and you are my idol! Criss1956 has totally right!

  • @xskillzy Thanks so much. You are too kind. I plan to do a similar exercise in Eb (Eb blues) this week, if I have a chance.

  • I'm a freshman and I wish to be as good as you are(:

joining jazz band next year going to be really scary improving! D:

  • Keep working on your scales. Try to memorize some of the shorter pieces, like you will probably need to do for marching band anyway. Try to set up a routine for practicing. You will do great!!!

  • Really nice, clear, clean tone. Makes me want to start playing the trombone again.

  • criss1956, thanks for your comments. I stopped playing after senior yr in high school and started playing again in August 2009 after a 30 year break without touching my horn. Give it a try and you might get hooked again!

  • Love it!
