Your firmware should automatically update. As for game patches, they should also patch automatically however it will tell you that a new patch is needed. You may need a Live account though.

u do not need a wireless adaptor, that is only if you dont have a long enought ethernet cable. If you have a router but dont want to spend doh on a adaptor, dont buy it, buy a long ethernet cable
