  • Pete Seeger at 0:26 and Fred Rodgers at 0:53....anybody know who the woman at 1:04 is? I'm sure I recognize her, but can't remember her name.

  • The one dislike had no TV...

  • I am forever grateful that Captain Kangaroo was a part of my childhood in the 50's and on. I hope sincerely that he went to the rewards that he so greatly deserved. I love you Captain and always well.

  • This show was so entertaining, and made a lot of children very happy, and I'm proud to say that I was one of them! What great memories, and thanks for posting :)

  • Captain, oh, my captain... I almost forgot how much his show affected me as a child. Thank you for posting it.

  • Who remembers "The Banana Man" that used to appear on CK about once a year?

  • I guess everybody must say this..but I haven't heard that familiar song since I was so young..I can see the faces of my dolls, my pajamas..it's amazing. Somehow Vick's Vapor Rub, Cambells Tomato soup and warm 7-up fits in there somewhere..(ha) I must've been home sick from school and watching Capt. Kangaroo one too many times! Mr. Green jeans..Dancing Bear..wow. Thanks for posting this..wonderful to see and hear the images. Captain Kangaroo I'll always love you!

  • @is2daytuesday Fresca and Cream of Chicken soup. Watch the Cap'n. Zonk out and wake in time for the Price Is Right!

  • Well it took me back to days of no worry wow, Never thought I would remember him.

  • There was reference to Bob Keeshan being a WW2 hero, which may be an urban legend. I've heard that Keeshan was fired from Howdy Doody for trying to organize a walkout for more pay. I don't know how true that is, but Buffalo Bob Smith supposedly was a hard man to deal with.

  • @oldbob1951 In 1945, during World War II, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, but was still in the United States when Japan surrendered. An urban legend claims that actor Lee Marvin said on The Tonight Show that he had fought alongside Keeshan at the Battle of Iwo Jima in February–March, 1945.

  • @oldbob1951 However, Marvin not only never said this, but had not served on Iwo Jima (having been hospitalized from June 1944 until October 1945, from wounds received in the Battle of Saipan),and Keeshan himself never saw combat, having enlisted too late to serve overseas.

  • @oldbob1951 I've heard that Keeshan was fired from Howdy Doody for trying to organize a walkout for more pay. "I found nothing to support this claim". Buffalo Bob Smith supposedly was a hard man to deal with. "This could very well be true! "I know he was a big boozer and a nasty one at that" He lived minutes away from me in Babylon, New York (Suffolk County).

  • @TheBacmaster Keeshan interview on EmmyTV legends covers all this and more. as honestly as you would expect from the Captain. (Which means with the greatest honesty!)

  • To hear the entire original theme soundtrack is a great gift. I heard it for years as a child but this is the first I've heard it in complete form since the mid-70's, when the theme was dropped for a new one. I so remember those 7am sessions with the Captain and all his many doors within the Treasure House door.

  • Bob is a Holder of the Navy Cross for being a Hero on Iwo Jima.

  • I wish there were a "Love" button on here, in addition to a "Like."

  • I will ALWAYS love you and ALWAYS remember you, Captain!!!!

  • Boy do I remember Captain Kangaroo, I watch him when I was a kid and I love his show. I am 58 years old now. ty for upload.

  • 50 years later and I can still hum and sing (in my bad voice) the song. He had a way of explaining normal everyday things to you as a child. I had no idea what an "eggplant" was... Captain and Mr. Greenjeans explained what it was and how it was grown and how it was used. Too much "sensitivety" training on kids TV today. Guess that is why recently I met a university student who was baffled by the EGGPLANT at the market.

  • Never Be another the young generation never will know what they missed

  • Now that I look back, it's hard for me to believe that the Cap was a man in his early 30's when I watched him; he always was old to me. Incidentally, I read years later that the "Captain" part of the title referred to the fact that the Cap was supposed to have been some sort of a swashbuckling adventurer in his youth, thus amassing the "Treasure" of the Treasure House, and now in his comfortable old age, he wanted to settle down and tell yarns to kids.

  • I love CK but I'm a child of the 70's... I remember the Good morning Captain theme with the CBS celebrities it was a great show

  • Captain Kangaroo possessed a virtue that has all but disappeared from today's media--CLASS

  • @AmericanPowerBase yeah nice try

  • For all the wonderful sweet years, the things you taught us, the laughter, the memories...Thank you Captain

  • Remember Tin toy?

  • Amazing how certain themes can really touch your heartstrings. Thanks. And thank you Captain :-)

  • Bob Keeshan, what a great American! How many millions of children did he make happy everyday for years?

  • Great tribute to a great person. We all loved watching him and we will miss him always.Good bye Captain Kangaroo god bless you.

  • (Crying)Goodbye "Captain Kangaroo".

  • All that, and not ONE scene of ping pong balls falling on him!!! Did that not happen every episode?

  • It just dawned on me that I probably got more nuruting from his show than I did from my parents.

  • What about Iwo jima? I thought he took shrapnel kickin' some crazy Jap ass over there?!!!

  • @Downfacingdog Yeah, I had heard somewhere that the Captain was a WWII hero. And I always enjoyed watching him, Mr. Greenjeans and the rest of the characters on his show when I was a kid too. R.I.P. Captain.

  • Bob Keeshan died long before 2004

  • @CHAOUSLORD Bob Keeshan , TV Personality Born: 27 June 1927 Birthplace: New York, ... Born: 27 June 1927; Birthplace: New York, New York; Died: 23 January 2004 (natural causes) ... Died, January 23, 2004(2004-01-23) (aged 76) Windsor, Vermont U.S.

  • @CHAOUSLORD Did you not watch this video? The grave of Bob Keeshan (a/k/a "Captain Kangaroo") actually appears in it, with the date of his death ("Jan. 23, 2004) engraved right on the headstone.

Keeshan was only 28 years old when he began portraying "Captain Kangaroo" in 1955, wore make-up and a wig to make himself appear grandfatherly. At the peak of his fame on that CBS-TV children's show (about 1968), Keeshan was still only 41 years old.

  • @CHAOUSLORD Perhaps you thought Keeshan died earlier than he did, because you thought him older than he actually was (76 years old) at the time of his death?

  • A wonderful tribute to a loving, caring, kind man who made growing up a little easier. God Bless you Bob Keeshan and everyone who was part of the best TV childrens show ever!

  • This brings back very fond memories of my waking up early to watch The Captain prior to my being whisked off to school when I first moved to The States. Thank you...

  • Mr. Green Jeans pissed me off. He was dreadfully annoying.

  • did you ever really notice that bunny wore glasses even though in those days people told kids eat your carrots becase they make you see better and if you eat carrots you eyes eill never go bad the capt. had a way to put the ideas of the day in theri place, to sort of subvert them in a humorous way that kids could appreicate

  • Check out the Mark iv jaguar , I never realized until I watch this clip why I insisted my father buy the Schwinns Mark IV Jaguar. What a beautiful bike it was It was aqua green shinny The most beautiful bike I had ever seen. It it all was from that subliminal advertisement on the Captain Kangaroo show!

  • I miss this show and the people who entertained, educated and informed the many kids that watched over the years. (Crying) God Bless You Mr.Keeshan..and Thank You For making my weekday and saturday mornings meaningful.

  • Wouldn't it be great to see some of the songs they did with puppets during the show? How about some of those black-background pieces with what looked like paper cutouts?

  • Brought a tear to my eye. Ahh, innocent childhood!

  • ...here's one for all my little friends who grew up in Oakland, and remember how the "Captain" entertained us each morning before school!

  • thanks joe...sooo many great memories here..great work as usual!!!

  • Oh, my gosh. Never missed this. Mr. Green Jeans, Bunny Rabbit, Mr. Moose, Grandfather Clock, Dancing Bear.......isn't it funny the good things you can remember??? All I wanted to do was live at Captain Kangaroo's house!! (But Bunny Rabbit WAS annoying!!! ha ha .)

  • Are you at liberty to name this recording? This is 'Puffin Billy', written by Edward White (UK) in honor of a vintage steam train on the Isle of Wight. Original performance I heard was by the Danish State Radio Orchestra. It vanished from utube but is this it again?

  • Ths is a good video.A time when most of us were innocent .
