  • How stinky is the slurry pit?

  • @rvernet2016 During the anaerobic digestion process, most of the organisms that cause a bad smell are destroyed. Therefore, when the slurry leaves the digester, it is relatively odourless and safe to handle.

  • with this system, how can you be sure that all the methane has been extracted and does not leave prematurely via the slurry exit pipe? using the natural pressure to expel the slurry is a fantastic method ;)

  • We can't be absolutely sure all the methane has been extracted. However, choosing the correct capacity of the digester in relation with the required gas consumption and daily feeding will go a long way in making sure the digester operates efficiently.

The correct choice of digester capacity and correct operation of the installation (daily feeding and daily gas consumption) will largely prevent methane escaping through the outlet, although incidental discharges will occur.

    Best, Fred Marree
