I dont feel like buying a 400-2000$ meter... is there another method I can use that is a little more "cost effective" for us cheaper folks, to get the same turnout as using a meter? thanks! :)
@joker59142006 You posted that a while ago, but the guy that responded with a good response didn't tag your name so you may not have seen it. Get the SMD DD1 if you're still looking for a much cheaper, but completely effective alternative.
hello, ive got some cdt hd52 speakers 90watt rms and there powered off a 4 channel vibe spacebox amp, 400watt rms. they distort when headunit is turned up past about 3 quarters of the way up. the gain on the amp is set at min. what roughly should i set the frequency at? dont no why they are distorting. have crossovers that came with the speakers. set to hp on amp 2 channel on amp. realy need help. thanks in advance
how do you no what ohm the oscope is reading like if you have an amp that is stable at 1ohm will it read 1ohm or 4ohm ect. I own a 440 oscope and just wanted to no thank`s
I just bought a high to low input convertor since i have a stock hu and it allows me to set the output voltage to the amplifier so i know what voltage to set my gain at. However since my amp is too powerful for the little P1 im running it 4v below my set output voltage :)
Why wouid the voltage change with frequency? The two have nothing to do with one another in such a short range. You use 60Hz because it's closest to the middle of the bass band AND most DMMs are designed for 60Hz since that's what house current is.
@sparky3489 Frequency does seem to change! but only when you're turning the gain up way too much! the 1000hz test tone starts to creep toward about 1200hz.
ive been using your chart for about a year now, (i found you on yahoo answers) ive also got an oscope. but i wouldnt recommend anyone buying one. good amps doesnt clip before the stated wrms these days.
im not quite too sure how you find that with an oscope....where do you hook it up to test that?
does it need to be hooked up to the amp to test the headunit before you set amp gains with the oscope? i want to turn on all eq settings etc that i want before testing where it clips correct? or not? i would be doing this with the 1khz tone correct? any info would be nice. thank you very much.
I went to the website and cant find the download one u said

Maybe RF should re-write the instructions found on page 9 of the Punch Amp owners manual. Does everyone own a O-scope?

why do some people use a 0 db test tone and some people us -5 db to fine where the sub out of the deck is clipping??

@teamfapa dont worry about the ohms.
20 volts is 100 wrms @ 4 ohms, 200 wrms @ 2 ohms and 400 wrms @ 1 ohm.

the ones ther usin on the vid are. how would u set the multimeter the cheaper one
dedurango25 1 year ago
hey when you set the gain on a amp does it matter what the volume is on your deck?
infamouzAdam16 2 years ago
How do you set the gains on an older RF amplifier that uses a separate gain pots for left and right channels and the amplifier is bridged mono?
stlbrian 2 years ago
@stlbrian same way if i had 2 guess... jsut set both in the same spot

thats a cool tool, what rockford should do is build that into there amps so it can auto adjust itself, a new smart amp.

do it matter what ohm your speakers are set at?
darren509 2 years ago
Glad to help.
sparky3489 2 years ago
For those that don't have a $2000 O-scope, an alternative, just as effective method is available using a $15 DMM and a free downloadable test tone.
Contact sparky3489 at yahoo for more info.

On DMM we wont be about to know if the signal is being clipped
omairgeforce 2 years ago
If you set it using my guide, you won't have severe clipping. ALL audio clips to some degree. you can't get rid of it 100%.
sparky3489 2 years ago
if i play 40hz test one , i will get lower then 50hz , if i play 60hz track i will get higher voltage then achieving at 50 or 40hz

what should your volume be set to on the head unit when setting the gains??
kyle279andrew 2 years ago
Set the head unit to the max unclipped level. find this with an o-scope.
