  • Wow, what a really informative, well researched video Gemma, this is really shocking...I hope Clinique see this! xxx

  • Thanks lovely! xx

  • can you do a review on the clinique moisture on-line? ive been wanting to try the superdefense, but since that is obviously a terrible option, i was wondering about the moisture on-line. thank you!

  • I'm sorry but I haven't actually tried that one so I won't be able to review it! x

  • Yeh I don't like jar packaging much because once the product is subject to light and air it gets bad quicker than tubes. Interesting review, thanks. Where do you buy your Roche Povay sun protection cream from? I am always shocked at how little variety of sun creams they have on the market here in Spain.. when there is so much sun!! Especially in the height of summer.. they only have about 3 or 4 brands to choose from some owned by the same company! In the UK or US so much more choice available.

  • I actually got this one in France, but you can get it online, and I've seen it in pharmacys in spain! x

  • Thanks so much for this. I am currently on the look out for a moisturiser with a higher-than-average SPF. Now I know to avoid this one!

  • No problem! Glad I could be of help :) x

  • If ou're looking for a mineral sunscreen, the Clinique City block with an SPF 25 is a good choice (they also have a tinted version of these) or you can try the Estee Lauder DayWear Plus Antioxidant Lotion SPF 15 - which has chemical UV filters, but the packaging is great as far as stability of the ingredients goes. Finding a good day cream is deffinitely not easy. Loved this video xx

  • I actually have the city block! I do like that one. I am a bit of an SPF freak though and I like higher than 25 in the Summer, especially for Spain, but thanks for the recommendation of the Estee Lauder, I might check this out for the UK! x

  • Hi, Gem! Yes, these sunscreens can be really problematic. Supposedly, using sunscreen with mineral UV filters (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) gives the best protection and it's suitable for sensitive skin as well. The chemical UV filters that are in the Clinique Superdefense are more controversial: there has been some research that these UV filters are not protective enoguh.

  • Its so shoddy that they would let their counter staff sell this based on its protective benefits, even the name, Superdefense, is misleading! x

  • You should contact Clinique with your findings and see what they have to say for themselves.

  • I know! x

  • I NEED Button Moon polish.

    And Clinique suck! x

  • I love those collection 2000 polishes, they dry so quick and are so cheap! x

  • What a great, well researched review. I can't believe Clinique could be so irresponsible. Interestingly enough I used this moisturiser on holiday last year in Greece as my only form of sun protection on my face and it left me with red patches, which at the time i just put down to my skin being a little bit sensitive to the product. But obviously it was sun damage.Thank you for such a great review!

  • I'm glad you found it helpful! Thats so annoying that you got sun damage because they don't disclose things like this! x

  • Awh thanks x

  • when you read stuff like that from a big company you tend to just believe it , well i do ,so thanks for this gemma its really helpful :o)

  • I know, especially a company like Clinique, you like to think you can trust them! x

  • I use the Clinique City block spf40! It's in a tube and i think in general a much better product!!

  • Yeah I have that one too! Not keen on the smell though! x

  • Sneaky Clinique!!!!

  • Sneaky indeed! x

  • i dont know if it helps you,but avene and bioderma has really good moisturizers, for every skin types. i have a lil bit different skin type (combination to dry),and i also`ve used superdefense, but then i deicded to try pharmacys ranges and they work so well.)

  • I love bioderma especially their cleanser and sunblock but I haven't actually tried their moisturisers! Thanks for the recommendation! x

  • great review =)

  • Thankyou! x

  • Thank you for doing this video! I think it is important for people to know that the packaging is as important as the ingredients because alot of skincare items are not packaged to protect the important ingredients. Tube and pump forms are the best.

  • Definitely. I can't understand why a company would effectively waste all those amazing ingredients! x

  • That's really useful to know, I was actually going to buy this.

    I love your voice btw.

  • Glad you found it useful! x

  • thanks for the review... Thanks also for posting the ingredients! Horrible Horrible ingredients..

  • Agreed! x

  • What's the name of the nail polish you have on your nails? It's so pretty :)

  • All the info is in the sidebar! x

  • this is wierd, but I love the tone of your voice/accent.

I just like to listen to you..but I also love your videos' content ;) aha

  • Thankyou! x

  • Really, really good review.

I wasn't even interested in this product, and almost didn't watch. But to be honest, I'm bored right now.

But you made some really good points. Well rounded research and review, I think!

  • Thankyou! x

  • I am really loving Neutrogena continuous hydration spf25 lotion. it's very good for combo skin. i don't really like clinique face creams but i do use the moisture surge and the mild face wash and toner #2 ..

  • Oh I'll check out if thats available in the UK, thanks! x

  • wow thanx gem!!

  • No problem! x

  • Whether in a tube or jar isn't the product going to be unstable the second it's put on your finger or face?

  • Well, the ingredients don't just break down instantly, they deteriorate or 'go bad' over time. So if you have ingredients that are exposed to air and light the whole pot might go bad within 3 weeks or a month. This lasted me about 4 months so the last 3 months of use were doing nothing for me! That plus the fact that the sunscreens were not photostable and did not even offer real protection is really disappointing. x

  • You should try Lancome's bienfait multi-vital spf 30 Lotion. Its really good and is in stable packaging. I love it!

  • Thanks for the recommendation! x

  • I'm going to check that out too.

  • thanks for this! honestly, most of the time i'm not even aware of what exactly i'm putting on my skin....

  • I know I'm exactly the same, I'm trying to find out more about my skincare because I think its important we know what we are using! Sometimes its shocking... x

  • Hi Gemma, thanks for the video! Neutrogena do a sunscreen called 'Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock' in SPF 55 and 70. I have been using the 55 on my face daily in Rio andit seems to have been working really well. It's not greasy and is absorbed quickly. I'd recommend it. I have the Clinique moisturiser and was confronting temperatures of 40 degrees with only that on my face! Disappointed too :(

  • Its so disappointing isn't it? Thanks for the recommendation I will see if I can get that in the UK! x

  • thank you for letting us know!

  • No problem! x

  • i wanna get this!!

  • I would check the ingredients list and think carefully before you buy. x

  • ohh how is your skin looking so lovely with just powder! i have to at least use foundation and it still looks crappy!

love the vid!, was thinking of buying this but hmmm...

    :)

    xx

  • Lots of concealer and high beam! haha. Hope you found it helpful x

  • Great review - I certainly learnt a lot! You should write Clinique a letter of complaint

  • I know, they are being really irresponsible I think! Glad you found it helpful x

  • I bought this cream just after Christmas and I wasn't very impressed with it. Now I've been put off it even more! Great video... very interesting!! x

  • Thanks, hope it was useful. x

  • wow i actually found this really useful. I always think ''oh these products never work'' but i obviously dont know what components don't work. But this is a perfect example of what i mean-the anti aging part doesnt work when exposed to air, and then sunblock isnt stable in the sun. Ha.

  • Definitely, it pays to do some research, I learned the hard way! x

  • Thanks for the info. How do you know if something advertises spf is actually going to work when you're out in the sun?

  • Look for something that has photostable filters and something that is broad spectrum and protects from UVA as well as UVB. The best sunscreens will say this, if they don't steer clear. There is lots of information online but it can be hard to find. As a general rule, the more expensive sunscreens are more expensive for a reason, they have better ingredients that will protect your skin better. La Roche Posay Anthelios has constantly been voted the best in terms of protection! x

  • i never really trust makeup products/skincare/foundations that claim to contain spf, because it usually is never enough to protect you. the only way your guarenteed to be protected from UVA rays is to wear a high spf sunscreen on your face!

  • Definitely! x

  • Actually I really like this cream, even if I don't use it during the day tho. It's part of my night routine and it works perfectly fine for my dry skin. the only thing I don't like about it is the smell: maybe it's just the dry to combo one but it smells like brandy, which is kind of annoying.

Btw my foundation has SPF so I'd be perfectly protected even if I'd use it during the day.

  • Yeah I agree it made my skin feel nice, too bad I needed it for protection! Just a word of warning, I would check that your foundation also protects against UVA and is photostable. Most aren't, and use cheap ineffective filters. Would hate for you to think you were protected when you weren't x

  • AGREED. irresponsible is the correct word methinks. you should get onto them about. I was going to buy that but thanks for the heads up! I have ver fair skin and would've presumed I'd be wearing spf 25 and probably not bothered with another spf on top to minimise the amount of layers of product I'd be slathering onto my face each day. So I'd have been exposed and skin cancer runs in my family!!! Not impressed with clinique on this one and I'm a fan of the 3 step system. Thanks for the info. x

  • No problem, glad you found it useful. Definitely irresponsible! x

  • Totally agreed, surprised this is allowed on the market with its present marketing :/ Glad you found out and shared it though :D xxx

  • No problem, glad you found it useful! x

  • fantastic review, thanks for the research and information. i have often got and used the sample size of this product too, but now i got some new sunscreens with higher spf to try out.

about the lrp-sunscreen anthelios, do you think one can wear make up over it and it would last all day?

  • For me if I wear a finishing powder with it, it lasts, but its probably different from person to person to be honest. Glad this review was helpful! x

  • Love your videos. <3

  • Thanks! x

  • You should try La Roche Posay's Anthelios SX spf 15 moisturizer.. it has a very high PPD for a sunscreen/moisturizer combo.

  • Thanks for the recommendation! x

  • Hi again, I'm an idiot....the vid is called 'wear sunscreen'. Sorry for writing so many comments.

  • Thanks, I just watched it, great video! x

  • great review! yee a review of clinique city block :-)

  • I'll try and do that asap :) x

  • Also just looked up a vid by VintageorTacky, it's where I found out about SPFs and antioxidants.....she has some really useful info! I can't find what its called right now but it will be in her vids. Good one to watch:)

  • I have heard that SPF in day creams and foundations are not efficients protectors for sun/skin damage. I never go out in the sun (slightly vampiric in that respect) but when I do I would only use a full facial spf cream. Also knew about air getting into jars affecting the anti-oxidants, seems idiotic to package it like that. Tbh I'm not into Clinique, I think the scientific rhetoric does lul people into a false sense of security. You make great points and think you should email them about it:)

  • I know what you mean, the white coats makes people feel secure buying their products when its all just fluffy marketing speak. I have friends that work for clinique and they do have excellent exams that their staff have to pass and to be fair they do know a lot about how the skin works if they take their jobs seriously, but the company doing things like this lets them down in my opinion. Not cool at all! x

  • Great review Gemma, I was planning to buy this cream but I will try something else.

Thanks, have fun in Spain ;-)

  • No problem, glad it was helpful! x

  • thanks for the review, I was going to get this product b/c I remember you recommending it last year - Thank you so much for the update!

  • No problem, glad you saw it before you purchased! x

  • i wouldn't have a clue if it wasn't for people like you with the brains! Thanks Gemma xx

  • No problem glad it was helpful! x

  • I use this every day and have gone through two jars!

  • Did you know about the SPF not being effective? x

  • Hey! Could you do a review of Clinique Cityblock? xxx

  • Sure! x

  • love this stuff!

  • Did you know about the SPF not being effective? x

  • Thanks for the review :)

Hope You Get On Good In Spain :D x

  • No problem, thanks! x
