it's a bit of both in a sense. It takes place before Metroid 4 (GBA) and after 3 (SNES). Not much has been said after the trailer, but it doesn't matter. I'm happily wasting my time with Fusion, Super Metroid and the Prime Trilogy :D

At 1:10 there's even a teeny bit of Prime-esque first-person action. Probably just an occasional technique Samus can use...
Retro Studios did an amazing job keeping the series going with Prime and breathing new life into it, but damn, Metroid is going in a whole new direction and I'm liking it.

The cut-scenes are absolutely gorgeous. But the in-game graphics look a little bit down (perhaps to keep a steady framerate?)
None of that matters, seeing how the gameplay looks spastastic.
