I think my response has something to do with the fact that I am not an "80s A-Ha" fan. I liked the guitar-based A-Ha as opposed to synthesizer-based A-Ha. I am sure people that liked the 80s A-Ha totally love the album version of Shadowside since it is very reminiscent of that period. I guess I prefer this version since it veers closer to their newer stuff. I still hope they do a single version of the song and hopefully it sounds like this - because I really do like this song.

I share your opinion. Honestly speaking, I prefer the 'guitar-based A-ha' more.

For me, being an A-ha fan for >20 years, it's their 'guitar-based' works which make me most crazy about them!

I do really like this version, yes i do like the 80's stuff but i do like analogue and think it's one of their best album's but this version makes them sound unnerved, which is probably because it's one of the first performances of that song.

Morten Harket is one of the best vocalists in the business. I can't believe America still thinks of this band as the guys that recorded "Take on me" (I didn't even like that song much). I feel A-Ha truly only blossomed when they reunited in 2000 with their hit single "Summer moved on". Since then, they have only gotten better and better. Brilliant track. Absolutely love "Shadowside".

I think since "summer moved on" they've just upped a gear.. but then they are older/wiser/more experienced.. I think they are totally underrated and overlooked.. I've even spoken to people who liked a-ha back then and, at most, they know about the a-ha's first two albums. When I tell them a-ha never really stopped recording and have put out some eight albums, they're surprised. Take on Me's a fun, catchy ditty, but far from even the best song on Hunting High and Low. A-ha was always better than that song, and made a lot of deep songs, even up through now. And yet, they're still known in America for Take on Me, and Take on Me alone.
