Actually, that's a bit misleading. While it won't do damage from the inside, it's definitely not a good idea to drink from a Nepenthes pitcher that has been open for more than a day, due to the critters that are liable to die and rot inside of it.

@Mrwackbeat97 I have had a nepethes for over 10 years... it's a viney plant so likes to climb on things. it usually grows large pitchers when the tips of the vines finally touch ground.

@Mrwackbeat97 usually suspended pitchers in the air do not get very large. the plant grows best in live sphagnum moss... you do not put it in soil nor do you ever fertilize the moss... the plant gets its nutrients from the bugs it captures. the lid of the pitchers are used to deflect water from the pots the solution they naturally have inside is all that is needed to digest its prey.

@Mrwackbeat97 it usually lives under the canopy of the forest so it does like light though not direct light so in a window which gets maybe the afternoon or evening sun and gets partial indirect sunlight during the day is best. it will grow very large over the years so after awhile you will need to purchase mroe spahagnum moss to repot it.

@Mrwackbeat97 keep the moss wet at all times if it even begins to show signs of wilting the plant can die really fast. some of my pitchers have grown large enough to eat salamanders and frogs... I have tried fish once as an experiment but the pot usually becomes moldy and dies do not over feed them bugs a large pot can handle maybe 6 over the course of it's life and can bloom strong for over a year. I hope this answers any questions for you.

These plants dont know what to do or how to do it, they are just a result of millions/billions of mutations caused naturally that just happend to have "worked" that allowed the species to grow and prosper. Those creatures who had mutations that did not help their survival are now...u guessed it...extinct!
