I remember this being used for the intro of (Chris Berman voice) NFL PRIMETIME! I just love it. They still use it for NFL Primetime, but it's a different version than this one. This version has trumpets and guitar riffs (used up until 2005) while the new one has trumpets (I guess) and a saxophone. The new one is too watered-down for me, and I don't like it. ESPN knows how to ruin good things, like MNF. I'm only 18, so they must REALLY be messing up.
Dan Dierdorf (after a Troy Aikman touchdown pass to Jay Novacek): THEY'RE ROCKIN' ON IN BIG D! Al Michaels: Mmm-hmm! Six minutes and thirty-four seconds into the game, 7-0 Dallas. Frank Gifford: They better work on big number 84.
I remember this theme especially when the one game back in 97' when the Chiefs beat the Raiders in Oakland on that last minute catch by Andre Rison in the end zone.
@ToroRosso20 I hear this only on Halftime on Monday Night Football back when its on ABC in the 1990's when Al Michaels was there and when the 49ers and Cowboys were rivals going after the NFC Champioship. "Live From Candlestick Park. This is the Halftime Update With Frank Gifford."
Al Michaels (after the 1994 AFC Wild Card): Well, the Monday lineup, three bowl games coming your way. For Montana, it ends in frustration as the Dolphins and Marino advance, 27-17. Happy New Year from Miami.
@woodsman513 Which comment are you referring to, the one I made about Al's typical postgame program note or his closing remarks after the 1994 AFC Wild Card Game?
the leaves are changing, the weather is becoming cooler. it could only mean one thing. enjoying a perfect crisp fall afternoon football game and hoping that your team wins. fall is the best time of year
This wasn't an alternate theme. It was played after the intro theme just before the screen would switch from a view of the stadium to a view of the commentators
Thank you very much for posting this beautiful theme that I have been looking for a long time. It reminds me of the 1997 and 1998 NFL seasons when my favorite team the Denver Broncos won back 2 back Super Bowls.

This was the best version in my opinion. Back when MNF was available to watch for free on network television.

Coming up on the East Coast, it's your local news followed by "Nightline", on the West Coast, it's "MacGyver."

@FutureNewsAnchor This brings me back. I really miss this theme, ESPN MNF isn't the same. No good music like this one.

@FutureNewsAnchor haha MacGyver? nice.
HllywHulk91 1 year ago
@HllywHulk91 Yes, MacGyver either preceded MNF or followed MNF, which depended upon whether you lived in the Eastern or Pacific time zones.
