  • He should have shot him when he started to run in the house. Because on that instance he gained a two star wanted level Just like in GTA IV. Probably he got a three star when he stabbed Duke.

  • wow all that care for the dog. I mean it's good

  • German Shepards are cool

  • This made me cry...and I'm a guy.

  • LOL gets fat and thinks about POODLES YAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • thumbs up if this made u think of ur dog

  • As The Old Saying Goes, "Dogs Are Man's Best Friend".

  • In all the years I watched this show as a child, I always remembered 8:43 in this story as one of the most moving images I'd ever seen.

  • I am wondering if Rescue 911 is out on Dvd

  • My dad is a firefighter and the chief has a dog named Dude. He is a really dumb black lab like dumb in a good way. He is such an awesome dog! I couldn't really bear the thought if Dude had gotten hurt by anything! :D xDDDD

  • sad thing is the guy probably paid less than a month in jail for stabbing the dog btu had it been a person ti would have been attempted murder..which is wht rlly makes me mad bc they act like animals arent as good as us humans its rlly fckd up

  • deadly force u may have to shoot him but you dont have to him

  • poor doggy

  • I almost cried good lord

  • I'm glad that Duke is ok

  • I WOULD DIRECTLY HAVE SHOT IF NECESSARY IN THE HEAD OR HEART

  • Poor Duke got stabbed T_T

  • awe, that poor dog, i used to have a german shepherd, and his name was bear. he was a great dog, he used to bark whenever i have compny coming.

  • Well, I certainly disagree w/ the person who said, 'no matter how low a person is, human lives are more important than an animal's life.'

If you act worse than an animal yourself, you'll get no sympathy from me.

You don't get to be treated as human when haven't acted like it-and that's all there is to it.

  • It's amazing how they treat Duke as a fellow officer. Glad he was alright.

  • Hahaha have a nice 11 years FUCKER, you can stab cows, you can stab kids, but you DON'T STAB A DOG

  • OMG, that a**hole was in crack and stabbed a police dog, how could he?

  • lol imagine walking past and seeing a man laying in the cage

  • It's a good thing the son, Rich, got arrested for what he did.

He didn't have the right to cause such a horrible injury to Duke.

I absolutely love petting dogs, especially when their fur is so soft. :)

  • What an amazing dog and an amazing man , two best friends, incredible story , and even though he might not be alive now after all these years, we <3 you Duke!

  • I love animals they are all amazing

  • I'm surprised he only got 11 years...

  • Are you kidding me!? That SOB would have died the moment he started swinging the knife. Instead risk your dog's life?

  • Man,at 5:31,Duke's owner slammed the guy who stabbed Duke TO THE GROUND! I guess it shows how much people, espescially the officer, care for their animals

  • Dogs are truly Mans Best Friend... their life goal is to make us happy... I love dogs! Thats why I have three!! haha

  • that guy has MAJOR pms problems

  • I am so happy that they passed the law about police dogs now if you kill or hurt one its just like your killing a real officer ABOUT TIME THEY PASSED A GOOD LAW.

  • the guy should of been shot in the face after he stabbed Duke

  • Honestly, shooting a criminal you're chasing in the leg wouldn't kill them! It would slow them down for a little while and then you could treat it when they were arrested and in prison!

And the criminal was convicted of multiple felonies... including hurting a police doggy! :(

This episode just made me tear up! It was so sweet!

  • I'm a 23 year old dude and that still made me teary eye'd :( i love animals esp. dogs.

  • aww! this episode brought tears to my eyes! :(

especially when he actually went into this cage with duke.

  • Aww, i started crying after he was whimpering :( it was just so sad

  • i have just started crieing because i had a pet that got killed and this gave me a mager flash back

  • teared up here o.o

  • they should have shot the fucker.

  • Duke! NO!

  • There once was woman, man and unbaas. They lived peacfully. Then one day an unbaa named Ewaya disobeyed the rules by stealing a peace of Turkey from Man. The gods good terribly angry and turned Ewaya into a wolf-like creature. In Unbaa language, Ewaya meant Dog. Dog kept living on peacefully with Man and Woman and became really good compaions. One day, Man asked Dog, "Dog, what is the true magic?" he said. Dog smiled and looked up. "The true magic is called: L-O-V-E!!!"

    The End

    Liked it? Thanx

  • Very sad :'(

  • I cried so much when i heard the nurse say that he was going to die within 12 hours. :'(

  • My mum's boyfriend had a german shepherd named Duke. I was very little when I first met him and, to me, he was like a gentle giant. Sadly, he died about 9 years ago, which really upset me because I'd loved him like he was my own dog. =(

  • if i was that police man i would of punchd the shit outta him if he stabbed my dog.

  • that bitch should of gotten 15 years in jail !

  • Is it just me, or are these sentences given to criminals to short?

  • Why the heck didn't get just shoot the guy instead of sending the dog the second time? I mean, I understand the deadly force thing, but you are throwing an officer right in the line of danger.

And it's not even like the dog could attack the hand with the weapon like they are suppose to because I'm sure it was too dark.

  • @HowToGetFreebies

Because the police officers were thinking of the kids mother, and probably by using deadly force, they would of taken her son away.

it was a gut wrenching decision

  • @HowToGetFreebies Plus, he could have just shot him in the leg. I am sure officers have training to be pretty accurate.

  • @HowToGetFreebies I agree

  • Duke has been stabbed in the neck.

  • @sidekickofbolt he was not stabbed in the neck. he was stabbed on the side

  • im so glad the dog was ok after that movie it made me think of our pug peanut butter and how much i love her and care for her.

  • I just love how committed the handler is to caring for Duke in the aftermath of the stabbing. You can see it in his eyes, the way he talks. It's extremely moving and I can't help but tear up a little when I hear him talk about his dog. <3

  • i started crying wen DUKE started 2 WHIMPER!!!!! =(

  • @mileysbigfan8 me too i love animals

  • that is one awesome german shepherd.

  • God needs to make more people like that wonderful police officer. The way he was with that beautiful dog was incredibly heart-warming. God bless him and "officer Duke".

  • God needs to make more people like that wonderful police officer.

  • poor duke

  • Dang, this episode was hard to watch. I'm just glad that Duke made it, really, God bless him.

  • He should have just shot him right then and there.

  • out of all the human rescues, i feel like this one is the most touching ive seen :]

  • UC Davis is awesome.....your lucky Duke was close to this hospital.

  • that dogs is buitifull iv always wanted a german shepherd but i got a lab instead but he acts like a shepherd protective and he is really lovin at the same time

  • This is heartwarming

  • i think the gye that stabed duke should of been put in for a life time because if i lost my dog i would would props die to

  • that is sooo sweet!!¨

im actually crying...the bond between dog and human is just so amazing...

  • This is why teasers became popular, especially with a knife wielding suspect. A teaser is a better option then a bullet. I am a deer hunter I know what damage a bullet can do. It's better a "better option, and less life threatening. If you have a bad heart, you should not commit a crime. It's that simple. Teasers overall have saved more lives, then harmed.

  • parden my language but that they should have shot that dumbass crackhead any son of a bitch that will stab an animal doesnt deserve to live

  • OMG.

  • Im amazed they didn´t shoot him..

  • Why would the cop tell his dog to attack that man when that man has a knife? Does the cop think that that man was not going to use it?

  • assholes who do this should go up on attempted murder charges

  • 1 deadly force doesn't have to be deadly shoot him in the leg or am or somethin 2 sweety a dog is biting someone with a knife what do you think is going to happen 3 in k--9 you have to expect this its sad yes but you have to expect it

  • You can tell how much that officer loved his dog, and how much Duke loved his human. People who think animals have no feelings are the ones with no feelings. This is a beautiful story.

  • 1:58 The cop says occifers!! Lol

  • I'd give anything to have a dog again because dogs are Man's Best Friend meaning humans.

  • I hope this lowlife served much of his eleven years- personally I think criminal care went too far and they should have shot him! Don't risk another dog if he comes back guys, deadly force sounds good to me!

  • as low as that guy was a life of a human is more important than the life of an animal no matter who that human is its messed up what happened if it was my dog that guy would have the shit beat out of him also k-9 are considered officers so now the guy is big trouble. then u have more (can't think of word) to shoot him

  • stupid crackhead, that's why I couldn't be a K-9 cop even though I love dogs, after he stabbed my dog, I'd have beat the living shit out of him!

  • What a hero Duke is

  • who says animals don't have feelings, they clearly do, I think animals are easier to bond with than humans, simply because of the fact that animals are with you all the time, they won't leave you because you're like a parent to them. the police dog showed its feelings when she licked the policemans face.

  • @TheVolvoFan

It's because humans are selfish and animals are not :)

  • Goodness gracious. I feel sorry for Duke. That man should pay a price for hurting Duke like that. I'm glad he got well. He probably died years after this but he'll always be remembered. I hope that guy burns in the bad place for eternity. When Duke got stabbed, it sort of made me cry. Good job Duke.

  • I very strongly agree with CoreyD1086, K9 police dogs are considered peace officers. That idiot should have gotten a much more longer sentence!

  • @doloresdude I agree, should get to imprisonment for more than 11 years. A man who hurts animals in my humble opinion, is a monster not a human

  • I really love animals even dogs. I had a dog named Milton who was a yellow lab but he was old and suffering from illnesses like arthritis and kidney problems so we had to put him to sleep on July 14, 2009. He was 14 at the time. RIP Milton. I'm sure we'll get another dog after my cousin's wedding. I'm sure he's with Duke in dog heaven now Officer Gene Ballentine and they're playing happily together.

  • I cried when I seen the officer sleeping in the o2 cage with Duke. That just showed how much he really loved his partner. i think that the guy should of got a lot more time then 11 years cause they was attempted murder of a police officer. I am glad that Duke made it out okay!

  • I believe that the sentence that he got this beast is correct but define him as a man, is incorrect. If someone hurts pet certainly had no resistance to the killing of a police officer or any other such individuals should be separate from society. myself I'm a huge pet lover and does not understand what you must be a beast to hurt the pets.

  • Ouch, that's got to hurt.

  • OMG.

  • The man only got 11 years. There was a person in my hometown that was sentenced to 25 years for kicking a police dog. He was charged with assulting a police officer. A K9 unit is a police officer as well and should be treated as such. I think this episode proves the strong bond animals and humans have.

  • the cops relationship with the dog is amazing.. i feel like that about my dog now.. shes amazing as well.. and if she was ever in the situation like duke was where she was hospitalized i would stay right by her side 24/7

  • i was crying like a baby when i saw this

im glad there was a happy ending

  • Why does the dog get so excited before he even chases the guy?

Jiminy. You'd think the guy was a piece of raw meat.

I don't understand dogs, but I've always liked cats.

I'm more like most cats, reserved instead of outgoing.

Dogs are outgoing like I wouldn't believe. We had a collie that was always jumping on me and wanting attention every time he saw me.

  • "You'd think the guy was a piece of raw meat."

    He is.

  • Poor dog, I hope he's ok.

  • didn't you see whole thing? he recovered

  • if you read she says years later, but i'm so glad he recovered

  • that loser!

  • I'm surprised he didn't get the sh!* kicked out of him after he stabbed the dog, dogs are basically police officers, they're your partner when you're out there...I've dealt with K9 handlers in the military, and your dog becomes your best friend. I'm glad this one had a happy ending. Haha, "gets fat and thinks about poodles". Awesome, lol

  • @Cpr3G0

maybe that just didnt made it to tv... ;)

  • @Cpr3G0 Maybe he did and they just don't include it...

  • @Cpr3G0

I'm happy to think that the guy did get the sh!* kicked out of him, but the cops just "forgot" to mention it.

  • I think the fact that the Officer actually slept in the cage with his dog was really touching. I understand that concept because I would do the same in a second. My dog is like a daughter to me.

  • you assault a police officer you deserve shot..that dog is a police officer...i know where i live you hurt the police dog you get jail time just like if you had assulated an actual cop. and they get police funerals and everything

  • If anyone wounders why today cops have Tazers now you should know. This shouldnt have exculated anymore then it should. They would have tazed him and the dog wouldnt have got stabbed.

  • It is so sweet to see how a man and his dog are so tight. I think Duke would have stayed beside his partner if he was in the hospital.

  • Wow. Awesome Episode. I Have A German Sheperd Too. And His Name Is Angus, And He's My Best Friend. And Also Very Protective Of Me. Whenever I Go For A Walk, He's Always Beside Me. While On My Walk, Angus Got Right In Front Of Me and Started Growling, Until I Found Out It Was A Copperhead Snake, Slithering Across The Path. And I Knew That Angus Had Saved My Life. He's My Hero.

  • anyone who would harm an animal deserves to die a horrible death!!!

  • I seriously agree on this.

  • wow duke..

  • That was sooo cute what he did for the dog =]]

  • That dog is so pretty. I love those dogs.

I'm not even a dog person--never have been--but I love police dogs, Huskies and Golden Retrievers.

  • These days police have tasers and this guy would be arrested and in jail with no person or animal harmed.

  • Thank you Duke...nobody realizes how important K9 dogs are to a police force.

  • the man with the knife should have been charged for agrevated assult. animal endangerment animal cruelty and should have went to prison for life

  • y send a dog when u can send a bullet

  • You can thank lawyers who defend a criminal's right even after said suspect is proven guilty, and human rights people who say all life has worth.

Never mind how wretched the person has proven himself to be, they refuse to believe that SOME offenders truly are incorrigible. So they work tirelessly, creating laws where deadly force will cost an officer his or her job.

I've worked on the life squad for years, and I've seen just how little offenders care--which is often true even when they're sober.

  • all im saying is the dog wouldn't have gotten stabbed if they would have shot him it doesnt always have to be a fatal shot

  • When police are forced to shoot, they shoot to kill. It's what they are trained for. If the suspect isn't dead they can still kill.

  • not really coz they'd be thinking about the excrutiating pain there in and if the cop thinks he's in not enough pain he can shoot him again

  • Their adrenaline is flying for one so they aren't going to feel much pain. If the first shot didn't cause enough pain, that gives the suspect time to fire back. No, shoot to kill. I'd rather be alive and have a dead suspect then be dead with a wounded suspect.

  • This is Officer Greg L., friend of vickiormindyb. They gave the suspect a gigantic break when they didn't shoot him after he stabbed the dog.

OneSkiWonder is right on both counts. We're trained to shoot to kill and a live suspect can still kill you-and will. And, in one case, tried it.

Suspects never show regret about killing anyone, and will do so without a moment's hesitation.

  • I concur, he got a BIIIG break. As an MP if you injure a k9 not only will you get shot by the handler but you will also get charged with destruction of government property and attempted murder of an officer.

  • Which is why you must react in kind to armed criminals.

If it comes to the life of an officer or civilian against that of the criminal, you, the officer, or the civilian get to live. The criminal does not.

  • And also:

Use of deadly force = Shooting to kill

  • I am an EMT and we have responded to fires where I have helped firefighters work on animals that were trapped in the smoke.

  • My dog's ashes are also in a box.

  • I hope PETA knows that some dogs in services are treated with love, respect and friendship and they are not slaves to humans.

  • pftt, PETA? They have no brains whatsoever to see that police dogs are loved and develop friendships with their human companions, and they will find any excuse to scream "ANIMAL CRUELTY!"

Thats one of the reasons why I hate PETA and every single hollywood star that supports them

  • I wish my dog could be here thinking of poodles, I got my Golden Retriever back from the Madison teaching hospital in a small cardboard box containing his ashes. :'(

  • gotta admire that guys dedication!

  • i own a German shepherd hes a good boy. German shepherds AR my favorite dogs in the hole tire world i adore him so much . my mom owns a female chawhawha

  • i no i love them

  • Comment removed

  • i second that!

  • 11 years!? youve got to be kidding me right? that guy that stabbed duke should be in jail for the rest of his life! poor duke.. hes just a good hero

  • That guy was out of control. Should have shot him. He is mostlikely still out of control. Glad duke lived.

  • that's heartbreaking :(

  • that was sad when duke started like laying on the street whimpiring

  • poor pup

  • Do you think duke is still alive?

  • Odds are he is not...german shepherds tend to live at the most 13 years. This happened in 1993 so it would be at least 15 years old or almost. Something tells me the dog here is around age 3 or a little higher.

  • No!

  • Man I love dogs I hate to see them get harmed. It was great to see he was alright.

  • alsations are cute

  • Dogs are very good pets, and loyal pets too.. like mine is...glad that dog survived that..

  • yh, they are mans bst friend lke my BC Willow :) cute lil thngs, wen u say 'are u rdy?' she goes loony and howls and barks at u, or whimpers wen u leave the house ^^

  • My favorite dogs are the great danes and especially, the golden retriever...

  • Either use the gun or send in the dog.

    Nice eh.

Should of disabled the guy by shooting him in the shoulder not endangering your dog!

  • Should've shot him. He assaulted an officer (Duke).

  • My dog name:Mardi birtday:2002 4.7

  • i like dogs!

  • BEAUTIFUL STORY. I don't think many people understand the relationship a dog has to a family , (police officer or whatever). If someone has a dog that just sits in the backyard each day and the only contact they have is feeding the dog , they don't understand the FAMILY feeling that people that have a dog that eats with them and sleeps at their feet when they go to bed. I lost a beloved dog almost 2 years ago , it was Devastating.

  • Thank god the dog lived. Dogs are great pets

  • na ide figyu dimerafun28! én 1994.-én születem im'from hungary!

  • wow. I remember this episode. Oh I have a german shepherd too a male one of course. But he seems to be chewing on my solar lights and dragging other stuff around the yard. So I'm wondering why did he do it?.

  • I'm sorry Duk

  • DUK IS KING POLICE DOG

  • Duke is just beautiful!

  • It makes me nervas when a police dog tries to fight a pereditor.

  • i guess the dog was trained to bite in the leg and thats why he got stabbed

  • Dramatized as usual!

  • Dramatized as usual my ass!

  • I started crying after Duke laid down and didn't stop until the video was over.

  • Me too. I cried like a baby!

  • Get a hold of yourself. It's just a tv show.
