I forgot how much Ed King's guitar playing contributed to that sound.I loved Steve Gaines playing; but watching this video reminds me of the riffs that I recognize as Skynyrd.
I love the raw grittiness of this video if you close your eyes you can imagine being in a barroom with ronnie and the boys blowin the roof off the place
This is incredible footage. Looked how cramped the stage is for a seven piece band with the mixing board stage left. Ronnie looks a little gassed, but the guitar on the end is smoking!
King and Gaines both rule. But if you want to know what Ed King brought to Skynyrd: Workin' For MCA, Mr. Banker, Swamp Music, Poison Whiskey, Sweet Home Alabama, Railroad Song, Whiskey Rock-A-Roller and Saturday Night Special. King wrote or co-wrote the music for all of those amazing tunes.
They opened for Queen at this concert (hence the Queen logo shown in some shots) lucky them. Tho no one holds a candle to the awesome being that is Freddie Mercury.
You can't compare Queen to Skynyrd. These are totally 2 different bands and they played totally different music man. But i agree that Freddie Mercury had awesome voice.
Hold on man. Queen is a really great band and Freddie was the best but you can't collate Lynyrd Skynyrd to Queen, these are totally two different bands, playing totally different music, but both great in their good old times.
@bearing44 Steve Gaines was one hell of a guitarist, Ed will tell ya that much. Each man had his own strengths....man, it's like asking if you like cold beer or colder beer, either one's damned good. Ed has the advantage of having been in the band longer and being able to contribute more....his musical "stamp" is all over Second Helping(hell of a showcase for what a Strat is capable of). Steve had a sizeable presence on "Street Survivors"....too bad those lives were cut short in Oct. '77.
@bearing44 Not to say "Steve Smoked Ed' but go to Ed's website and he will say ' He still can't play Steve Gaines parts..They are a bear..He said Steve was a MUSICAL GENIUS..but laughs and says..Well, I don't guess he could play mine either..Scary thing..Both were born on September 14, 1949.. Best music the band ever made was when those two were in the band no doubt...
they had to be the biggest group of bad ass's in music at that time, yeah other bands looked like it, but skynyrd didnt just look like it, they were it....R.I.P. the greatest band ever
excellent!! Ronnie without the tell tale hat...just a kid. The story of the band only to end up in a plane crash is heartbreaking. Lynyrd Skynyrd is the greatest.
OMG!!!. I never thought I would see a clear video copy of this. Brian and Mary Nash, god bless them, sent me a free VHS many years ago but was poorer video quality.
Hey Man! Happy New Year to you! We'll keep the Flag flyin' another year, and then some! Damn glad you're posting these vids. I don't don't if you've seen muuch of our channel, but we love Skynyrd too! Sorry to here that about your Grandmother. I couldn't have picked better songs.
yup and happy new year to you two. yeah i have not posted in a while so figured i would post some new skynyrd videos. might post some more tomorrow. and thanks like i said if she were here i knew those are the songs that she would want to listen to.
great vid. i wish that i were listening on my other computer. my laptop has lousy speakers. i could crank it up on my other computer. lol it might not be a good idea because it is 3:05AM. lol
happy new year to you to and hope you keep doing well. and glad you liked the video. i am just a huge skynyrd fan. my favorite song would have to be free bird. when my grandmother passed away that is one of the skynyrd songs we had played at her funeral it was here favorite song. then sweet home alabama. just cause my family knows she loves skynyrd. so we had two of her fav songs played. cause we knew those are two songs she would love to listen to if she were still here.

If I created a superband - 1 of my guitar players would be Ed King.
Wish he recorded some new stuff.
