  • lol wouldnt it be cool i offend think if in life sometimes lol a catchy tune would appear in the background and you and your friends already know the words to a song you'v just made up and all with full dance routine. lol life set to music Pleases! :)

  • dose any one get the vide that Amy Adams is slowy becoming a wholesome 21 century version of doris day

  • where did the paint bucket come from? o.o i love this movie ♥

  • @mymusicalsoul941 This is probably one of my favourite films of all time, I mean doris day is a legend and my idol. I was just pointing out that this song is very 50's housewifeish and therefore ridiculous and quite dated, but then it was made in the 50's and peoples perceptions of women have changed since then.

  • This song is absolutely ridiculous

  • @bluecloudswhitesky1 Ridiculous? I think your comment is ridiculous, this song and musical is awesome!

  • winder :P

  • Must buy my girlfriend an apron like the one worn by Katie Brown and show her this sequence!

  • 2 people just don't know good music, I am only 29 and I love her, I ran across her music about 2yrs ago and now I am hooked.

  • @smuwakil im 18 now but when i was like 7-10 years old she was my fav singer :)

  • this was the best from calamity jane ;)

  • thank god we live in more enlightened times :L great song though

  • Can some one please put these two in touch with me or two modern day females with this in mind please as my bachelor pad is in need of a womans touch and I also have a pile of washing and ironing needs doing as well haha x great song this love it loads

  • That's just Amazing :)

  • She has the tom boy act down pat

  • My Nana use to watch Doris Day movies.I am still a fan of them.:)

  • good morning

  • doris day is beautiful in every possible way!! love her x

  • @DonnaMammaMia yes, i agree. great actress.

  • i know allyn is gorgeous but doris day seems so much prettier

  • @happysugarcherry YES BUT THAT GUY SHE LIKED WASN'T THE RIGHT GUY remember!

  • @BobigailE TRUE, BUT IT WOULD STILL HAVE BEEN NICE IF SHE HADENT FALLEN. IT WAS SUCH A SWEET OUTFIT!

  • Great harmonies to the tune at 4:37.

  • I am 23 and this was and still is my favourite film. I remember when i was younger i used to sing this song and dance around my shed making it all lovely :)

  • NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE ON HERE...BUT HOW IN THE HECK IS THIS BY ANY MEANS SHOWING A LESBIAN FOLLOWING???? KATIE WAS IN LOVE WITH DAN AND DAN IN LOVE WITH HER....CALAM WAS ALSO IN LOVE WITH DAN AND MARRIED BILL! SERIOUSLY YOU PPL ACT AS IF A WOMAN CANNOT BE GOOD FRIENDS WITH ANOTHER WOMAN UNLESS THERE'S A SEXUAL UNDERTONE. CALAMITY WAS NOT A LESBIAN SHE WAS A TOMBOY...COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! SHE WAS RAISED AS A TOMBOY IN THE WILDS OF THE DAKOTAS IN INDIAN TERRITORY!!

  • There was no lesbian subtext to this film. It's a mistake to superimpose current culture upon yesterday's culture as if they match. Few people who saw this film ever used the word "lesbian" or thought what it meant. It's not a political issue but an issue of social reality at the time. As far as the real-life Calamity Jane being a lesbian, that would have no affect on the character in a film musical of the time. I know; I was a teenager when the film was released and I acted too.

  • HOWDEEDOO!

  • Feel it...But don't try it!!

  • What happened to movies like this? They are so good. I miss them.

  • Love Katie in that apron!

  • :A woman and a whiskbroom can accomplish so darn much!"

  • I think Doris Day played this part well!

  • i absolutely love this scene. i love cleaning scenes in movies. i know, weird. anyway, my favorite thing in this scene is the window curtains. lovely. i want some

  • Wasn't Doris Day just the cutest ever? Bring back wholesomeness. I miss it.

  • CalamityJane, a reminder of my childhood, especially with a 'woman's touch song'

  • Doris Day--what an American and film and music treasure she was back in the day! A beautiful, talented actress and a voice that would soothe even the hardest, meanest of souls, for sure. I'll take, "Secret Love," this song, and, "I Can Do Without You," but--for me--it's hard to leave ANY of the songs behind from "Calamity Jane." I'll say it, again: "They just don't make 'em like this anymore!"

  • Ahhhh i love this film i love it so muchh.

  • okay i watched this movie on youtube but now i cannot find it. if you see it can you post the link for me? plz?

  • I always loved how the yellow paint was magical and somehow managed to fill all the holes in the wood as well as making it look yellow, hehehe.

  • Allyn Ann McLerie has a superb figure and is also a wonderful dancer. Great video!

  • @JimBeattie Yes, a fine dancer, indeed, Jim! I liked when she was showing Calamity how "well" she could shoot, shooting the glass clear out of Calam's hand--but, we all knew before Wild Bill told Calam' in the carriage that it was HE who shot that glass, while Katie's shot, instead, hit the barrel way back behind the bar. Great acting, great singing, and a whole lot of clean fun in "Calamity Jane," for sure.

  • Aah blindingly white teeth

  • A womans touch is magic ! Lol, anything I touch breaks...

  • What is the point in the sheet over the 'window'? Haha.........I love musicals!

  • I need someone teach me how to do this...ahahaha

  • Doris Day looks super hot in those buckskins.

  • I think Glee should stay far away from this movie. Blasphemous.

  • a little paint can even fix the holes in the door O_O

  • a womans touch just dump every thing outside x D

  • i love the way calamity looks at the broom it looks like shes thinking "where the hell did this come from?"

  • I love this movie! And it really does have lesbian undertones. But its sweet.

  • @QuimbyCub13 In this song, it always feels to me that they added the last bit as an after thought. "The pies and cakes a woman bakes, can make a fella tell her that he loves her very much" As if it had just got a little bit too gay so all at once they had to mention men :L

I kinda like the way there's so much subtext you can pretty much choose an alternate story line, its a good excuse to watch it twice. As much as i love this song i think my favourite is still "I can do without you"

  • My name is named after this Movie... I love it and I have been watching it since i was a little kid.... :)

  • im only 11 and i love theese films more than the new ones xx

  • @thomothy10 oooh i totally was thinking that right now! haha

    they should relly do it!

  • I think Rachel Berry should sing this song on Glee in a duet!! with mayb Santana?

  • i agree what has this world come to why does a film need sex, drugs or nudity to be funny or a good film. Its so annoying sigh

  • @crystal7396 I know I am sorry my favorite movies do not consist on nudity and drugs lol

  • This is an amazing movie.

All my friends think I am werid because I am 15 and I love it.

I laugh everytime I watch this movie

  • @lozztay i'm 14 and people laugh at me too Loz, i don't get whats wrong with watching decent old films =)

  • @lozztay It is PERFECTLY acceptable, me and my friend were bursting into song for 2 years at the back of class, and this song was frequently performed

  • I love the like hidden meanings. Like a woman's job is never done. Poor Calam never gets to sit.

  • i listen to this while cleaning up it makes it so fun!!

  • I L O V E D doing this song in our school production. I was Katie Brown

  • Love it still! That song and the way it's staged and perform have stuck with me forever since the 50s.

    Thanks for posting it!

  • Wow, that tomboy transformed into a pretty girl :)

  • Probably my favorite movies EVER, and as a male 13 year old, with all the new movies around, this is amazing!

  • By far one of the best scenes from this movie! So fun to see the dirty old cabin, transformed. I have cherished this movie since I was a child, and still do! I never get tired of it. Right now my apartment could use a "Woman's Touch". Seriously!!!!

  • "so never underestimate a woman's touch"....hehehehe....

Sometimes I feel like that, whirling around and then it's done....but I think it is a bit to "flowery and kitschy" for me...

  • This is so entertaining, i musta watched it 10 times already in the only 2 days i knew bout it. One thing that annoys me so much about movies and they were bad then to, anone notice the door she was painting magically was all put together with good boards? :-S other then that very fun and a god working song.

  • Just too let you know her name is Cady Brown, not Katie :)

  • @LisaM7204 Look at the door at 3:28

I think her name is Katie. lol

  • HAIDOO! :)

  • 4:02 love the accent of 'chandelier' *-*

  • I was supposed to live in a house like this when I grew up.

  • They not only clean up the house, they renovate it with paint, drapes, a garden, a personalized door, new light fixtures, and built furniture in less than 5 minutes!!

Anyway, this is one of the best numbers in the film, and a prime example of a song which moves the plot along. And at the end of the song, Cala'am is finally in a dress. This is the stuff musicals are made of.

  • @mca1218

I think the growth of the roses is meant to show that it takes two or three days !

I prefer Calamity in the check shirt, but each to their own.

  • this was my favourite film when I was about 9, and now I listen to this song to motivate me into doing the housework I know my boyfriend will never get round to doing! Not sure about the line to do with pies and cakes though - anything I bake is more likely to cause a severe bout of food poisoning than a declaration of love! :)

  • A woman's touch? I love her face when Katie says that.. she is soo pretty..

  • Thank God for "Deadwood"...It shows Jane the way she really was..a filthy mouthed bull-whacker who never bathed.

  • I do so love how Calamity looks a the broom at first. Just like, "Well, what am I supposed to do with this...thing? Do I fight somebody with it?"

  • yes because thats all were good for is picking up a broom! gmafb

  • Will be sing this for the rest of the day!!!!

  • I think this is one of the happiest songs ever wrote! It makes me jump around my room ! I love it.

  • i loove doris day so much shes a boyo and she still looks beautiful as ever even dressed like a lad haha

  • i love there to be a lesbian wester musical just think this and johnny guitar compined would b so cool

  • Brilliant video! Haha at the description! "Really inappropriate comments"! Teehee.

  • @ljd0809 When I initially posted the video, there were a lot of posts from actual spammers, with links to porn sites. I wasn't referring to commentary about lesbian connotations!

  • @friendofpoodles o.o what lesbian connotations?

  • Katie reminds me a little of Anne Hathaway

  • @IreneHarlech please never insult katie brown like that again.

  • so romantic !

  • i love this film

  • My favourite film of ALL time. I've loved it since I was about six. >3

  • i remember this when i was a child, i love doris day x

  • Doris Day seems pretty tall

  • they were such a cute couple!

  • You sir, are most correct. Well done. :D

  • I love their relationship. It's practically heteronormal interaction.

  • I love Doris Day, and I haven't seen Calamity Jane in years! I grew up watching it back when the tv stations played good movies, but that was a long time ago. I had a crush on Doris Day as a little boy. Calamity Jane, in the movie, falls for Wild Bill Hickock, played by Howard Keel who would later become Miss Elly's 2nd husband, Clayton Farlow on Dallas. I knew who Keel was before he was on Dallas because of his singing. Thanks for posting this video, and it brought back great memories.

  • Studied this film for a lesbian cinema class and have loved it ever since!

  • @dropoutninja oh how fun!

  • @dropoutninja Lesbian! How cool would that be. If Only!!

  • This movie is so cool! I wish singing a song for five minues could transform my house lol!

  • Doris Day is one of my favourite singers she has a wonderful voice

  • our school did a musical of this, i was just at it around 20 minutes ago it was class

  • god i could watch this film ovrer and over. love doris.

  • i love how that can of paint and paintbrush so conveniently showed up next to the door.

  • I LOVE that blue outfit! Wish we could still dress like that ha ha

  • @MollyRayForever we can dress like that but if we get out dressed like that people would die laughing

  • her dresses are SO pretty!

  • I LOVE the way Calam looks at the broom at the beggining of the song!!!!!

  • ★★★★★ 5 star

Love this song best song in the movie

    Kirsty X

  • I used to really love the way she says "crick" when I was little. Still makes me smile today!

  • I have such a strong desire to save the beautiful blue velvet dress from that dust

  • God people like Judy Garland and people like Doris Day, I would have killed to be able to work with...too bad I wasn't born in the 20's.

  • @taoknitter

I don't know about Doris, but Judy definitely was NOT a pleasant person to be around. Given that she was at all times either jacked up on amphetamines or in a barbiturate-induced stupor.

  • I'm a proud feminist, but this song doesn't offend me at all. The movie explores gender roles, if anything. You have to take it in its appropriate context. I love Doris <3<3<3

  • nor should you be offended. people should remember that this was made over 50 years ago, and some of the words and songs do NOT mean what they would today. In my opinion, today's words and songs suck in comparison to all the classic musicals, including this one.

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

  • this is totally the character basis for Jessey from toy story XD

  • "With the magic of a broom, you can mesmerize a room!" That line is SO funny when you've got your mind in the gutter xD

  • hahaha yeah.

  • I Know Every Word Of This Song, Love It.

  • that blue costume is beaut

  • and what does mr sunshine say to you?

    HOW DYA DO!?

    love it all time classic!

  • awsome!!

  • fantastic movie.....

And 677Mentor u can have katie Brown come round as ya maid lol bets shes sexy for an 88yr old....pmsl good luck

  • This is my favourite part of the musical... I always saw myself as calamity jane.

  • They just don't make films like this anymore :(

4:55 brings tears to yr eyes...

  • yer, these movies are classics!!

  • Could you show the video where Katie Brown appears before the crowd on the Dead Wood Stage appearing as Adelaid Adams that was where Allyn McLerie looked Red Hot.

  • Allyn Ann McLerie was really nice looking especially in this movie.

    Katie Brown was hot.

  • I wish Katie Brown would come round and help me fix up my house - especially if she's dressed up in her maid's outfit.

  • I love this film too someone upload it please then let me know

  • The whole film is already uploaded....

  • i cant find it. can you direct me to it?

  • i love this film

  • I dance just like that when I'm cleaning my house!

    not.....

  • haha;-) I don,t clean at all, just move out ;-)))

  • Nerine, there is nothing wrong with sitting sown in front of your comp and singing along and I am 47...

Calamity rules, love it, love Doris and Howard too... :0)x

  • I'm only 15 and i love doris day films too...

tocuh of mink is another fave :)

  • I also love "that touch of mink" is also a favorite of mine, too. I always forget the title for some reason. But they're such GREAT movies.

  • Ví esta ´película cuando tenia 6 años. Y recuerdo sobre todo esta escena. Me quedó grabada. Será de ahí que me quedo el gusto por la decoracion tipo rustico?

    No se ingles. Sorry

    Marta

  • I love this movie

  • when actors could act and sing and dance.not like the bozo,s these days.

  • i love this film, i used to sing this song when i was three on the kitchen table :D

  • im only 17 and im in love with doris days films... i got them all xxx

  • If this song isnt a hymn to a lovely dream of radical lesbian separatism then Im a banana. Who needs Aladdins lamp or his touch?

The pies and cakes a woman bakes can make a fella tell her that he loves her very much. It can? Only if you want to waste good ingredients and cooking time!

Says Calam: "Well it looks like we're outta water here. I can get it from the crick down there." Ho, ho.

Of course, a better sexual politics is the dissolution of sex and gender dimensions.

    ♥ andrea

  • Hey, I think you've got the wrong person, :-).

I adore this song, and I love the affection between Calam and Katie.

Moi, I'm often called an arch feminist, critic of hetero-normativity, albeit from a decidedly sex-and-gender queer perspective.

Now, I admit I can be quite loud mouthed !

    Regards and ♥, andrea

  • oh sorry i must have clicked on yours by mistake sorry x

  • @andreaandrewmilne

There is a tenderness and a generosity to this song. It does resonate with gay subtext, but that subtext wasn't available for easy access to the cinema-goers of that era. When you combine it with "Secret Love" her other song in the film, you begin to make assumptions about the collective intent of both songs, but who cares? Like you, I adore this song, and it reminds me that some things just exist for pure whimsey and fun. Happy new year.

    TP

  • I always thought this song should be on a refrigerator commercial from the 50's. I love this song!

  • Angels in the house? So old-fashioned, lushly Technicolored and clean movie. And Katie looks lovely in that beautiful walking-dress.

  • There is something really wrong with a 35 year old woman sitting on her computer chair singing along to this, isn't there ?

Haha - still want this house.

  • I'm 38 and singing along!!! I wanted that house too - and a friend to clean it all up and make it pretty! God I love this movie!

  • they sure don't make them like they used to. great movie

  • I love this movie. Thank you for posting!

  • I love the innocence. How did they manage to be so gay without realising?

  • nothing better than DORIS DAY! love her and this movie , one of my favorite songs! Thanks!

  • Never watched this before, this looks like a movie I'd love to watch
