I was pretty happy to discover the Schthack server for Blue Burst though- I started late '08 and haven't stopped since.
Yep. It required either a broadband adapter, or a Dial up modem to be plugged into the bottom of the GM in one of those ports that you can take the plastic covering off of.
There were even a number of games that supported lan play through the broadband adapter, and people have been able to tunnel those games online, and play games like Mario Kart Double Dash, 1080, and Kirby's Air Ride online when they didn't initially support online play.

Melee's graphics blew me away back in the day, and they still look real good

I didn't even know Gamecube had online games? how did you connect to the internet with it? did you need an add on?
