  • 2:35 in all the sudden the who takes possession of him and rocks every ones socks off!!

  • Jeez, I almost expected to see little bits of flesh come flying off at the end there, he was thrashing that poor alvarez so hard!!!

  • Monte's the man, but Pete Townshend is the man, ya know?..

  • I love that CSI twang he gets at the end

  • Please, please, please--bring back "Tightrope", Monte. You are huge and never fail to amaze, but I miss that vid' so bad. Thanks for this and hope to see you at the Saxon soon.

  • Muddy Waters once said "No one can be the best, you can just be a good 'un."

  • Tommy E can not hold a candle to Monte Montgomery. That's like comparing the 19 century with the 20 century.......

  • monte is great-raw & emotive-tommy e. is a master of a different thing-chets 2 or 3 complex things at atime-monte is like havin as much freedom on acoustic as possible!emmanuals music is jazz/country-very different & way more difficult to play!both are awesome!!!

  • I agree with the other post that you can't compare guitar slingers at this level. Monte is a genenious and so is Tommy E. Monty show shows his diversity and splendor playing with his full band and hard rock and blues influence while Tommy's technique is based on classical influences. Both marverlous and sucessful guitarists, but different in many ways. Hats off to them both

  • with tommy e i can ;) and the comparison was for monte only. stick to the subject please :p

  • This is the best guitar player you will ever see and appreciate live today!! Bar none!! Ive travelled a very long way to see this guy many times and he is a true tribute to Austins finest and then some. If you find better than this then please let me know where it is.

  • wrong, theres better guitarists. search for Tommy Emmanuel for instance

  • Wrong again! Tommy Emmanuel is very good in his own right...but not "better".

  • and wrong a third time! Tommy is better at playing the instrument as far as technique goes (which what i was implying) but monte has a better voice and singing skills. It would be foolish to argue against this.

  • Wrong...infinity!, I argue foolishly! There are plenty of guitarists with great technique: Adrian Legg, Leo Kotke, Tommy E, Kaki King, etc.......

Monte is up there with the best of them. I just don't think you can separate them and call one better when they're at that level.

  • @Pappyboyd1 It's like saying that Matisse is better than Renoir, so I completely agree with your point....except Kaki King. She's competent but has never impressed me. She's being called a great player for doing the things now Preston Reed has been doing for years.

The rest - for sure, and more besides. There are some GREAT players on YT that I'd never heard of before. Don Ross, Antoine Dufour, Robert Taylor, Steffen Schackinger...all quite different.

  • Amen...Tommy E is amazing...and I'll check out some of the lesser (hopefully "soon to be") known players...but Monte's tone makes you want to bark out one of Roger Daltrey's primal screams

  • amazing, and all by himself-OUTSTANDING!!!!.......

  • How can anyone get that kind of power out of a solo guitar?

  • Comment removed

  • slow down bro

  • i agree hes playing it too fast, but its still sick

  • nice Pete voice

  • speechless i am.

sitting here with my goose bumps.

  • j'adore ce mec!!

  • Yeah, that's pretty dang good.

  • thsi is the best cover version of a song ive ever herd

  • I'd give half a testicle to be a quarter good as this...

  • Keno may your wish be granted. What's your address? (Prepares crowbar)

  • LOL

  • From the Wikipedia entry for The Who:

"The primary lineup consisted of Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle and Keith Moon."

  • I don't care what you people say... i'd give a testicle to be HALF this good.

  • i think he is just great !! i like most all of his original songs , but i like the way he can take other songs and make them his own , simply amazing

  • he plays it complety different - i don't like this version

  • To slawdawg96:

Haha, now I've seen so many ways of mispelling Daltrey: Daultrey, Deltry, Daltruy, Daltry, but Daughtray was a new one. How did you come up with that??

    Good song anyway

  • Might want to check on who the DA is ... its spelled Daltrey

  • his rhythm isnt great on this

  • I saw him in Dallas in 2004. Toward the end, he played a montage of Pete T. and Who songs-4-5 in all. No singing-just guitar part. I looked around, but I don't think anyone noticed. He is great live!

  • That was excellent, when is the European tour?

  • Dam he's beatin that guitar.. kinda missplaced solopart.. otherwise A+!

  • By principle, I like Townshend better, but this is pretty fricking sweet.

  • Monte's DA MAN!

  • First time I've seen him do that one. Cool!

  • holy crap

  • that's pretty freakin' sweet.
