Just stumbled across your tunes today and have been listening to them all day. I'm in Santa Cruz, CA, a surfing town with deep Hawaiian connections (the Duke taught us how to surf 80 years ago while attending Stanford). I can't believe you live in Idaho! But like Iz once said, "our Hawaianness lives inside of us". Love your work. Keep it up!
Mahalo for the beautiful rendition. I was looking for Brasah Iz version but I most definitely loved this one. Keep up the great work. Aloha Pumehana Kaua ame ke Akua Pu,
You sing Kuhio Bay so beautiful! Mahalo! Keep sharing the aloha and love of home through your talented voice! What a blessing to see youre all the way in Idaho sharing her mele!
Mahalo nui loa! It is an honor to hear from the composer's family! Thank you for your comments. I learned it from Bruddah Iz' recordings, but it is more meaningful to hear the mana'o of the mele. Aloha pumehana
Kuhio Bay was composed by my Great Great Grandmother Mary Keliana Bishaw for her love of Hilo and the many places within as she shares in this mele. I was told by my Aunty a few months ago that Keliana Bishaw sat at Kuhio Bay and composed this mele. Whats a mystery to us is were wondering if our Grandmother composed this as a memory she had at these very places she wrote about or she just felt to capture the beauty of Hilo within her Mele.
Beautiful song and performance, man. This is my favorite Hawaiian song.

Good luck with your baritone adventures. They are great fun and have a fuller sound than other ukes.

Not much surf in Idaho, unfortunately, but plenty aloha for na mele Hawaii. Thanks for tuning in.

That's good! Not as good as IZ, but still good.
