LOL! You can't even keep up that. And you think you'd whoop my car? ha ha! Thick cunt! Do yourself a favour and stop posting shit on other people's videos unless you've got something to back yourself up with. Your car is shit, and it's not even worth the $800 you spent on it lol. FAG ALERT!
@tommy02wrx This is when the car was basically stock.... FYI your WRX is basically upgraded to an STI, nothing more. STI injectors, STI intercooler, STI turbo, and a cold air kit. You have a stock STI now. I have taken out stock STIs easily over and over again. The last STI that was a good race for me was an '05 that was pretty heavily modded.
@gtdrummerdude Firstly, I don't need you to tell me about my car. Secondly, you need to stop talking, because your lack of knowledge is making you look stupid. Thirdly, FYI, my car is nothing like the sti. It has a completely different map, numerous different parts, and about 100hp more. Also, the stock 2002 sti is quicker than the 05, and the UK spec was faster than the US spec. Honestly, while your car is getting whooped by a 220hp SHO, I think you should lay low and keep you mouth shut!
@tommy02wrx 100hp more? LOL! You are hilarious. You think a different fuel and timing map with a cold air kit is worth 100 hp? Make a video of your car accelerating at the very least. In this video my car was nearly stock as stated, and the 2010 SHO has a 365 hp, twin turbocharged 3.5L V6, and I barely lost. My car is tickling 12s on street tires with an easy launch @ 107 mph here in Arizona. Let's see some timelips of your car.
yeah @ damonunit a turbo keeps buildin boost with an auto during shifts as to a stick theres that momentary lapse in engine rpm which equals a loss of boost
@cmaxO123 Not a 5.0 5 speed in good mechanical condition. 225 hp, 300 lb/ft torque. Anyway, there aren't many bolt-ons you can do to a SHO. It's pretty much just turbo kit. There are many ways to go with a 5.0.
@gtdrummerdude you are correct on the sho there really not an whole alot of room for improvement on the old shos because they where petty much maxed out except for and turbo and exhaust thatd be about it.
Milled head, blueprinted and balanced, headers and duals. I forget the exact comp ratio. Plus it looked really good, nice black and gold. Pretty mean for back in the day. Maybe you can see pics here:
To this day, my favorite car of all time (and I've had alot). My 1982 Mustang GT, 4 spd, 700 Holley, B&B, 3/4 cam. Embarrassed every Carlo SS, Z28, and everything else at my Marine base. Wish I had a video of it.
@caddycoupe1021 You drive a ZR1 and would rather have a SHO? If you have the original 1990s ZR1 I can imagine wanting a SHO for the luxury and all that jazz but if you have a new one I cannot see any reason to want a SHO over the ZR1. Even the 1990s ZR1 is faster than the 2010 SHO.
@romanval69 when you own/have the money for a zr1, you can usually go buy a SUV to drive on the side. Typically, you would put a ZR1 away for the winter anyway.
What's special about the SHO's Ecoboost is certainly the Twin Turbo's, they're smaller than usual, and that's why there are two. They spool up much quicker, very little lag. All turbo's have /some lag, but the SHO is a shining example of how to avoid it. Ford is not the only company to deploy such a system, however this new EcoBoost system is by far the best to date, of its kind.
@SexyLilSeaOtter The 2010 SHO engine can easily crank out more power than the 2011 5.0 with just a tune. More boost, fuel, timing etc will easily add 50 hp to the SHO engine putting it at 415 +
vrs the stock 412 the 5.0 already pushes with no modifications and forced induction at all. also waiting for the turbo chargers to spool up in an automatic doesnt sound very appealing. not terrible, just not apealing
@SexyLilSeaOtter There is no lag. The turbos make boost the second you hit the gas. I've driven an EcoBoost car. That's the point of twin turbos. It is better to have an automatic with boost anyway. If you have a manual, you lose boost when you shift.
@gtdrummerdude Wrong, the reason you have two small turbos is because there is less mass to get spinning, thereby giving the appearance of no turbo lag. Turbo lag exists regardless of transmission (google it). Super chargers have no lag (perhaps you got the two confused). Also you can refer to it as speed shifting or power shifting, does anyone really care? There are different terms that can meant the same thing, its called a synonym
@gtdrummerdude Turbos do create lag you dummy head. Turbos run from exhaust gasses which dont power the turbo until they are powerful enough to do so. There is a lag, and it is called TURBO lag. And what do you think automatics do? They dont have a centrifugal clutch that holds one gear, they still have to shift, its just that the driver doesnt do it.
@Damonunit Yea I know. I was saying that in the 2010 SHO, there is no lag. I drove one and punched the gas from a dead stop without brake torquing it or anything. Just let off the brakes and stabbed the gas and there was no lag. It instantly shot to 40 mph. I don't think you know what you're talking about. Manual transmissions don't have a centrifugul clutch lol do you even know what that is? Automatic is more beneficial for turbo because you aren't letting off the gas when you shift.
@gtdrummerdude When you let off the gas, you lose boost, so with a manual transmission when you let off the gas to shift, you lose boost. With an auto you just keep your foot planted the whole time so there is never any loss of boost. A centrifugal clutch is a device with a spring and weights. As the clutch spins faster, centrifugal force pushes the weights outward against the clutch bell and engages it. It is used on gocarts and other things of that nature.
@Jviera1989 True and I have powershifted every gear at the drags before but the car doesn't go any faster than when I shift normally so i'd rather save the trans.
@gtdrummerdude although that's a good point... but you don't HAVE to let off the gas in a manual either... especialy something like the old t5 where if you know how you don't even have to use the clutch. just slam through gears like a clutchless... sure, it's not good on it, but you can still hold the gas down even using the clutch, and if you have a rev limiter you don't even need to worry
@gtdrummerdude no way 5.0 puts out 411 na i love both cars man i want to buy both theres just no way you can say your gonna easily put out more power. now with a rad tune, bigger waste gates, maybe better turbos.now your talking. no better sports car for the money and i have driven a new sho and god i love it.
@gtdrummerdude lol you know that there comming out with a 650hp turbocharged 5.0 in 2012 make a sho get that with a little tune and boost you will need to do some internal work to make that
@1016joecool There is always something faster. Speedfactory makes a stage 6 SRT8 that pushes 1,000 hp. I'd rather have a 3000 lb car making about 350 to the wheels. That's plenty fast enough but way less expensive.
@1016joecool well the point of an sho is to be fast AND comfortable as hell with the new ones... the interior is actually a full out luxury sedan, and makes it a practical daily driver, no amount of mods will make the mustang that way, not that either of them are any less of a car, but just 2 totally different goals, the taurus sho isnt supposed to run 8-9 second quarter miles
@1016joecool ford announced that there would be no turbo 5.0 in the gt500 a while ago, instead they are using a completely new aluminum 5.4 block along with a supercharger
@USMARSHAL1000 Actually this 5.0 has the worst transmission ever, the SROD, and the early carbureted, non-roller 5.0 which is not nearly as good as the later 5.0s and after falling behind due to his AWD launch, I stayed right behind him. An '88 5.0 5 speed with minor bolt-ons would take this car, it only ran 100 in the 1/4 which is not hard to do with a 5.0
@Revluton Yea but with the automatic transmissions today, automatic equipped cars are just as fast as manual ones. This Taurus is either a 5 or 6 speed automatic with very close ratios. I would know, I drove an EcoBoost car. And with automatic, you don't have to let off the gas when you shift which means no loss of boost.
@gtdrummerdude why would anyone let off the gas when shifting a manual?!? I had a 1986 GT and never took my foot off the gas when I was racing, ever. It's called speed shifting and you have to shift incredibly fast when you do that, but that borg warner T5 handled it no sweat. And the 5.0 was not stock, either. Had heads, cam, intakes, 75mm t.body and mass airflow, pulleys and 3" exhaust. Nothing from that era could touch it, not even GN's or vettes - unless they were chipped or modded.
@marcomariaz26 It's not called speed shifting, it's powershifting. It's not hard, anyone can do it with easy and I have done it a few times for fun. The fact is, powershifting is the #1 cause of transmission failure in every model of transmission, every vehicle, especially with Mustangs and T5s. You can shift just as fast letting off the gas as you can powershifting. How hard is it to lift off and press a gas pedal? Most of the effort is in the clutch and shifter which you have to use either way
@thevarekai007 GVWR is a rating of how much weight the car can handle inside it, not how much the car weighs. don't worry, everyone gets this confused. They look at the sticker on the back side of the door or the door piller and think that's how much the car weighs.
@gtdrummerdude yea my bad man i meant curb weight. damn cali and its legal weed standards... wait.... that doesnt make sence... never mind the weed part.... but i was high when i posted my first comment. lol
Those things stock were rated at 157 horsepower, just to get to an even power-weight ratio is an uphill climb for an 82' Mustang, unless one does serious work, headers and a 4bbl carb won't cut it.
@NWpowerhouse85 But to get it from 157 to over 200 requires only a 4bbl carb and intake manifold, shorty headers and dual exhausts. Assuming the Taurus weighs no more than 4000 lbs: 4000/365 = 10.95 lbs/hp. With the afformention mods on the Mustang + 120 dollar camshaft and lifter kit, as well as some pocket porting on the exhaust ports and a decent tune, i'm at 250 hp. Right now i'm sitting at 2630 lbs, so: 2630/250 = 10.52.
@gtdrummerdude In this video I was sitting at 2900 lbs and had a/c, ps, smog equipment, full interior, everything. The 10.52 lbs/hp figure is assuming my current situation. No rear seats, front bumper, a/c, ps, smog pump and a few other things got me down to 2630 and gave me a few hp now that i'm turning less accessories. The car feels much more lively and would easily hang with that Taurus now, assuming I had better rubber and could pull off a 2.0 60 ft instead of my usual 2.2 - 2.3.
@gtdrummerdude Well, that's true, the 5.0s until 85, were complete bottlenecks. It'd probably be the ultimate bang-for-your-buck performance car----if they weren't so rare now :(
At any rate, kudos to you, for hanging all the way down, with that big boat-anchor..
@kenneykole they are seriously talking about discontinuing the v8 within the next ten to twenty years, how can you even have an american car though without having a v8? that makes no sense and will probably take all the soul out of the car. however, america could be the first to design an electric sports car that wont have the battery dying every five seconds, maybe the dawn of a new muscle car era with electricity. Idk, but the next twenty years are goiong to be exciting in the automotive ind.
Ford will discontinuing the V8 in next 10 or 20 twenty years? I love V8 power.
I would agreed about american will be first design an electric car or electric muscle car. You know what, I am designing and building a electric engine uses without batteries, gas, solar, oil, etc... something that produces own energy. I just had designed already, but never build one yet until I have some money to buy all the parts what I need to make a electric engine. I hope it will work
You obviously haven't ever been to a dragstrip. Cars that "feel" pretty fast don't just go run 13s. A 7.0 second 0-60 time (pretty decent) comes out to a low 15 second 1/4 mile just for refference. In 105 degree heat with some elevation (5026 ft DA), a 14.0 @ 100 mph is a fast car. 2005 - 2010 GTs (5 spd or auto) average 14.5 @ 98 mph here.
you cant say a 7.0 second 0-60 comes to a low 15 sec 1/4 mile. my friends 2009 g8 gt does 0-60 about 5.5 sec, and a 13.8 sec 1/4mile. my dad's friends 1992 camaro does 0-60 about 6.5 sec, but does a 13.5 sec 1/4 mile.
0-60 time is a big generalization. There are tons of factors that come into play. 0-60 in 6.5 is slow for a 13.5 tho. The main problem I see with what you said is that I know for a fact that you haven't seen either of those cars go down the 1/4 mile yourself, you just listened to what they told you and believed it. If that Camaro is doing 6.5 second 0-60s it aint doing 13.5, that's for sure.
@gtdrummerdude Nice run, you tried. Looks to be about time for some sticky tires and some 3.55's or some 3.73's. Nice to see the older foxes still tearing up the quarter mile. Keep wrenching and racing.
good god. thats too cool! i wonder how big the turbos actually are. normally im not a ford guy but thats just too respectible for me to diss or say anything. i like!!
I'm not bashing the Taurus or my car. I like both cars and posted the video just for refference and for a peak at the new SHO, so when I comments bashing either car, I'll defend them both. SHO about 4000 lbs compared to 2920 lbs for my notch. SHO has smaller engine but twin turbos + 28 years of technological advancements over my notch. Both cars have advantages, mostly SHO tho. It was a fun race.
and I'll post it again since the guy in the slow 82 erased it...my name is sean I race at one of the best dragstrips in the country (zmax) almost every week. anyone who doubts that needs to come and check out my runs. .But If I had his 82 I'd think the taurus was a monster too.!! u can't even hit the 400 mark...poor kid
I am erasing your posts because you are taking an arguement that WAS interesting to an extreme level and flipping out, saying nasty things about me and my car and posting tons of crap all over the place. Jesus dude control your emotions. If this was a trial in a court of law, you would have lost in the first 30 seconds simply because you are running your mouth to high heaven and have absolutely nothing on your profile that backs up anything you're saying. It's ridiculous.
for the same money you can have a shelby....who'd be stupid enough to buy a reasonably priced 500hp supercharged v8 manual car when you can have a taurus...brilliant
my stepdads been a ford mechanic for 15years..has a 500hp 2001 lightning and a 2009 shelby. he's driven the sho plenty. you realize the 510hp shelby is roughly the same price. has so much power and torque I have trouble using it. super car or grocery getter bot a really hard decision
the turbo lag on those are horrible you'd expect alot more from a $45,000 car. I love that they're sleepers. not a bad car just wouldn't buy one new . I'd let some one else pull it off the lot and buy it from em in 6months for 30
NO lag! I sale them. drive very quick off the line. If you get one though make sure it has the performance pkg (optional! Dumb i know! but rides a little rougher since it was meant for the track guys and it has higher gears)
I'm going to have to agree with xem727. Twin turbo = faster spooling, plus if the engine is a 3.5 V6 pushing 365 horsepower, they can't be that big, and it's a big V6 spooling them up. I've had a few 3000GT VR4s, stock, upgraded turbos, etc. At a stock 320hp with 9b twin turbos, it's an instant spooling ride.
With an automatic paired up to the 3.5 V6 TT, I can only see quick spooling going on.
Im curious to know if the lights at the bottom of the new Taurus are LED's and are just for show or not. Im assuming they arent fog lamps because they are just a "strip" of light and too small to be. Hmm... Nice video though! Sorry I had 2 ponder on ur page! lol
P71 Interceptors do not offer Supercharging ( Lexington-Fayette, KY police, SOHC 4.6L with low-gears for quick accel and dual exhaust ) Quicker, but nothing like a SHO.
@idc1233333 they will....it sgonna be produced as teh 2012 interceptors.....same motor and stuff like that just w/o all teh bells and whistles...so your best bet is to start learning those headlights now
I don't remember what time it was when I made this run. Probably was around 8pm. Still over 100 degrees at that time. On hot days It usually doesn't go down into the 90s until it's been dark for a few hours.
Everything is heavy now days. A new civic SI weighs the same as my Mustang lol. Last time I weighed it, it was 2870. There is just a lot more "stuff" in today's cars. Old cars are made of steel and iron but they're still lighter because it's just a frame with a shell. You can crawl up in the wheel wells, sit in the engine bay, etc. They don't have plastic and foam stuffed into every crevis for no reason like new cars.
To each his own but the numbers don't do much for me, especially considering the hp this thing is supposed to be putting out. I love the new SHO but to sum it up: Two things for: Great hole shot capabilities thanks for the 4 wheel drive and the ability to maintain power at high altitudes. Three things against: Big/heavy, poor quarter trap and speed, top speed limited to 120 something. (Don't have it in front of me) 2 of these things can be rectified with tuning but we'll see.
Point well taken but 99 in the quarter is still not that fast in the quarter, even in real life situations. Cars have become much faster in general in the last few years and there are now many crossovers/suvs that run quite a bit' faster than that. Like I said, nothing wrong with the SHO, I was just expecting more. What's cool is I just found out that Ford is planning on putting this drive line in the fusion so that should up the ante as well.
I like the new SHO although I'm a little indifferent to the performance. It's not limp wrist or anything but to be honest I expected a bit' better of a showing. It looks like it can crack of a decent 0-60 (around 5ish) but can't really heat it up after that. (14 to high 13s quarter with 100 to 103 quarter). For a big 4 door its decent but nothing to write home about performance wise. It will be interesting to see how it responds to tuning so maybe some redeeming qualities there.
14.2 @ 99 mph in real life (not a magazine test) is fast enough to toast anything on the street. My mid 14 second Mustang has beaten 350Zs, G35s, LT1s, 335Is, ran dead even with a sick '98 Cobra yesterday, and the list goes on. You can throw around 11s and 12s all you want, but when you actually go to the drags, the car you knew was easily a 13 second car runs15s. I see it happen all the time. A mid 14 second car with a good driver will consistently beat 99% of the cars on the road.
your beating 335i with a 14sec mustang i find that hard to believe. I will put money on the 335i any day ya there are drivers not as good as others but you get a decent driver in the 335i he would dust your mustang
14 seconds at a race track that has a D/A of over 5000 ft lol. Aint exactly the same as the magazine tests. I guarantee you a335i here in the AZ summer will have a hard time running 14.5. The guy I raced had an auto 335i so i doubt he fucked it up.
I did race them with good drivers. The guy in the Cobra shifted fast and rode the motor to at least 6500 rpm. 2 weeks before this video was made I was at the track and there were 2 350Zs and a G35. The 350Zs were running mid 15s, same with the G35. There was also a stock Lightning and LT1 Camaro running low 15s @ 95. There was a 2008 GTI running 15.8 all night and the RSX-S in my videos ran 16s all night. Remember, the D/A was 5000 ft. That drops a second or more off of any car's times.
A new 350z with a good driver at sea level will run mid-high 13s.
The GTI sounds about right..
No offense but a properly driven 350z will leave an average 5.0L. I've got a `13 second Regal, and Ive made well over 100 passes with it so I've seen quite the variety of drivers.
s but I raced a brand new one with a manual and the dude could drive good. He got off to a way better start because I didn't think he was gonna race, so he got a car length on me but then I stayed right behind him. It was a 2008. Did the same thing with an S2000 when I had 550 lbs of passengers in my car and the S2000 just had the driver.
......As a drag racer you should know that what "they" say doesn't go. Its just what some people run. In optimal conditions they're a mid 13 second car.
I didn't race one 350Z and one other car. I've raced them dozens of times with the same outcome every time. I raced an '06 G35 coupe 5AT like 2 weeks ago from a slow roll and had 2 cars on him before I hit 60 mph. I blew away a brand new Saab 2.0T manual earlier today. I've run 13.80s here on slicks in the winter. Take me to Cali in the winter and i'm doing mid to low 13s. Compensate for the poor conditions here by using a D/A calculator and my car comes out on top.
id spank both of em with a 21 year old mazda turbo but for a 4 door thats sick ill wait 2 more years and get a jeep grand cherokee srt8 for my wife just my opinion to much for a ford.... go look at my 13.6 second mazda runs heheheh ask me how much i spent
Didn't see any videos of your car at the drag strip on your page. These runs are on street tires with slow 60 foot times in 105 degree heat, 5000 ft D/A. Your 13.6 would turn into a 14.2 here easy. I've run 13.80s here in cooler weather with slicks and i've beat a modded 1990 MX6 GT with lots of boost and bolt-ons anyway so i'm not worried.
the sho is $40,000 dollars....the mustang gt is only about 30 or 35....who n they rite mind will by this car for that much...with only the "thrust" of a v8.....lol...and ford wonders why we n a recession
well its a nice car first off if you can afford it and you want it go buy it if you cant there are other cars out there for you. also what makes the SHO amazing is it has a v6 with 365 hp where as the v8 hemi that is put into the chrysler 300c has 345. A v6 that can go 0-60 in 5.2 seconds thats pretty impressive.
no problem man i agree with your opinion of ford i think fords reliability has increased over the past 3 years though. by the way you dont have to be sorry im just letting you know why people would want to buy it.
Even though its turbo charged and most turbo engines gota run 91 octane or higher, but does the ECO Boost engine in the SHO is tuned for 87 octane from the factory?
someone who wants the speed of a mustang with four doors,a trunk and a sleeper look buys an SHO...thats the point of the SHO. Find another car that has more ALL AROUND for the money... Not easy.
Wealthy older people who sometimes need to carry four aboard but want a sexy car not a boat to drive every time they turn the key. It not a car for kids. It is a luxury sports sedan.
Drmand3, the Mustang GT is nowhere near 30k, try 26. And I admit I paid a bit for my 2010 SHO, but it's worth every penny. And it's not just the "thrust" of a V8, it's more like a slingshot, drive one or keep it shut.
As far as the recession, FORD is the ONLY of the BIG THREE that DID NOT take ONE CENT from the government, not one cent of that bailout money, Billions went to GM and Crysler. You're a goddamn idiot.
whoa there asshole....i dnt give a shit if they didnt borrow money from the government....to me they still are not reliable....what does a bailout and reliability have to do with each other?....yea thats what i thought...nothing....and the premium...convertible gt's....are 35k....so calm down...dnt go have a temper tantrum....and idc what chu just bought....40k...is toooo much for a ford...a C class Mercedes costs less....so dnt try to jump on me...callin me a idiot...fagget
LOL! You can't even keep up that. And you think you'd whoop my car? ha ha! Thick cunt! Do yourself a favour and stop posting shit on other people's videos unless you've got something to back yourself up with. Your car is shit, and it's not even worth the $800 you spent on it lol. FAG ALERT!

1991 Ford SHO, 220 HP, 200 ft/lb of torque, and could give 5.0's a run for their money, if not flat outrun them. And thats non turbo'd.
cmaxO123 10 months ago
@cmaxO123 Not a 5.0 5 speed in good mechanical condition. 225 hp, 300 lb/ft torque. Anyway, there aren't many bolt-ons you can do to a SHO. It's pretty much just turbo kit. There are many ways to go with a 5.0.

Even the 1990s ZR1 is faster than the 2010 SHO.
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude 2010 zr1 it's to fast for an everyday driver and it burns gas like crazy

@romanval69 when you own/have the money for a zr1, you can usually go buy a SUV to drive on the side. Typically, you would put a ZR1 away for the winter anyway.

I think a better point to make is -both- the 2011 5.0 (TiVCT) and the 2011 3.5TT EcoBoost can be made better with a tune.
I can't be certain, but given extreme tunes, -all- software, no hardware mods, I've gotta lean toward the EcoBoost making more power.
However with an unlimited budget and all the goodies in the world, I'm 100% certain the new 5 liter would yield more output.
HypnoticSuggestion 1 year ago
What's special about the SHO's Ecoboost is certainly the Twin Turbo's, they're smaller than usual, and that's why there are two. They spool up much quicker, very little lag. All turbo's have /some lag, but the SHO is a shining example of how to avoid it. Ford is not the only company to deploy such a system, however this new EcoBoost system is by far the best to date, of its kind.

SexyLilSeaOtter 1 year ago
@SexyLilSeaOtter The 2010 SHO engine can easily crank out more power than the 2011 5.0 with just a tune. More boost, fuel, timing etc will easily add 50 hp to the SHO engine putting it at 415 +
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude
vrs the stock 412 the 5.0 already pushes with no modifications and forced induction at all. also waiting for the turbo chargers to spool up in an automatic doesnt sound very appealing. not terrible, just not apealing
SexyLilSeaOtter 1 year ago
@SexyLilSeaOtter There is no lag. The turbos make boost the second you hit the gas. I've driven an EcoBoost car. That's the point of twin turbos. It is better to have an automatic with boost anyway. If you have a manual, you lose boost when you shift.
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude Wrong, the reason you have two small turbos is because there is less mass to get spinning, thereby giving the appearance of no turbo lag. Turbo lag exists regardless of transmission (google it). Super chargers have no lag (perhaps you got the two confused). Also you can refer to it as speed shifting or power shifting, does anyone really care? There are different terms that can meant the same thing, its called a synonym
jaretkady 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude Turbos do create lag you dummy head. Turbos run from exhaust gasses which dont power the turbo until they are powerful enough to do so. There is a lag, and it is called TURBO lag. And what do you think automatics do? They dont have a centrifugal clutch that holds one gear, they still have to shift, its just that the driver doesnt do it.
Damonunit 1 year ago
@Damonunit Yea I know. I was saying that in the 2010 SHO, there is no lag. I drove one and punched the gas from a dead stop without brake torquing it or anything. Just let off the brakes and stabbed the gas and there was no lag. It instantly shot to 40 mph. I don't think you know what you're talking about. Manual transmissions don't have a centrifugul clutch lol do you even know what that is? Automatic is more beneficial for turbo because you aren't letting off the gas when you shift.
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago 4
@gtdrummerdude When you let off the gas, you lose boost, so with a manual transmission when you let off the gas to shift, you lose boost. With an auto you just keep your foot planted the whole time so there is never any loss of boost. A centrifugal clutch is a device with a spring and weights. As the clutch spins faster, centrifugal force pushes the weights outward against the clutch bell and engages it. It is used on gocarts and other things of that nature.
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude of course, you could always not let off the gas when you shift a manual as well lol
Jviera1989 10 months ago
@Jviera1989 True and I have powershifted every gear at the drags before but the car doesn't go any faster than when I shift normally so i'd rather save the trans.
gtdrummerdude 10 months ago
@gtdrummerdude yeah, but theres no fun driving with an auto trans....
crazysandwich 3 months ago
@gtdrummerdude although that's a good point... but you don't HAVE to let off the gas in a manual either... especialy something like the old t5 where if you know how you don't even have to use the clutch. just slam through gears like a clutchless... sure, it's not good on it, but you can still hold the gas down even using the clutch, and if you have a rev limiter you don't even need to worry
302Travis 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude no way 5.0 puts out 411 na i love both cars man i want to buy both theres just no way you can say your gonna easily put out more power. now with a rad tune, bigger waste gates, maybe better turbos.now your talking. no better sports car for the money and i have driven a new sho and god i love it.
mikegt500kr 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude lol you know that there comming out with a 650hp turbocharged 5.0 in 2012 make a sho get that with a little tune and boost you will need to do some internal work to make that
1016joecool 1 year ago
@1016joecool There is always something faster. Speedfactory makes a stage 6 SRT8 that pushes 1,000 hp. I'd rather have a 3000 lb car making about 350 to the wheels. That's plenty fast enough but way less expensive.
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
@1016joecool well the point of an sho is to be fast AND comfortable as hell with the new ones... the interior is actually a full out luxury sedan, and makes it a practical daily driver, no amount of mods will make the mustang that way, not that either of them are any less of a car, but just 2 totally different goals, the taurus sho isnt supposed to run 8-9 second quarter miles
rcrocker02 1 year ago
@1016joecool ford announced that there would be no turbo 5.0 in the gt500 a while ago, instead they are using a completely new aluminum 5.4 block along with a supercharger
ltspike12345 1 year ago
The taurus sho comes with the paddle shifter. He was probably able to drive it as if it were manual with much quicker reaction time of course.
MAKAVELLI228 1 year ago
No surprise there. Even with a modded 5.0.
USMARSHAL1000 1 year ago
@USMARSHAL1000 Actually this 5.0 has the worst transmission ever, the SROD, and the early carbureted, non-roller 5.0 which is not nearly as good as the later 5.0s and after falling behind due to his AWD launch, I stayed right behind him. An '88 5.0 5 speed with minor bolt-ons would take this car, it only ran 100 in the 1/4 which is not hard to do with a 5.0
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
2010 Taurus doesnt even have a manual
Revluton 1 year ago
@Revluton Yea but with the automatic transmissions today, automatic equipped cars are just as fast as manual ones. This Taurus is either a 5 or 6 speed automatic with very close ratios. I would know, I drove an EcoBoost car. And with automatic, you don't have to let off the gas when you shift which means no loss of boost.
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude point taken...
Revluton 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude why would anyone let off the gas when shifting a manual?!? I had a 1986 GT and never took my foot off the gas when I was racing, ever. It's called speed shifting and you have to shift incredibly fast when you do that, but that borg warner T5 handled it no sweat. And the 5.0 was not stock, either. Had heads, cam, intakes, 75mm t.body and mass airflow, pulleys and 3" exhaust. Nothing from that era could touch it, not even GN's or vettes - unless they were chipped or modded.
marcomariaz26 1 year ago
@marcomariaz26 It's not called speed shifting, it's powershifting. It's not hard, anyone can do it with easy and I have done it a few times for fun. The fact is, powershifting is the #1 cause of transmission failure in every model of transmission, every vehicle, especially with Mustangs and T5s. You can shift just as fast letting off the gas as you can powershifting. How hard is it to lift off and press a gas pedal? Most of the effort is in the clutch and shifter which you have to use either way

Those things stock were rated at 157 horsepower, just to get to an even power-weight ratio is an uphill climb for an 82' Mustang, unless one does serious work, headers and a 4bbl carb won't cut it.
NWpowerhouse85 1 year ago
@NWpowerhouse85 But to get it from 157 to over 200 requires only a 4bbl carb and intake manifold, shorty headers and dual exhausts. Assuming the Taurus weighs no more than 4000 lbs: 4000/365 = 10.95 lbs/hp. With the afformention mods on the Mustang + 120 dollar camshaft and lifter kit, as well as some pocket porting on the exhaust ports and a decent tune, i'm at 250 hp. Right now i'm sitting at 2630 lbs, so: 2630/250 = 10.52.
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude In this video I was sitting at 2900 lbs and had a/c, ps, smog equipment, full interior, everything. The 10.52 lbs/hp figure is assuming my current situation. No rear seats, front bumper, a/c, ps, smog pump and a few other things got me down to 2630 and gave me a few hp now that i'm turning less accessories. The car feels much more lively and would easily hang with that Taurus now, assuming I had better rubber and could pull off a 2.0 60 ft instead of my usual 2.2 - 2.3.
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
@gtdrummerdude Well, that's true, the 5.0s until 85, were complete bottlenecks. It'd probably be the ultimate bang-for-your-buck performance car----if they weren't so rare now :(

ShepperdW 1 year ago
@ShepperdW

Ford will discontinuing the V8 in next 10 or 20 twenty years? I love V8 power.

KarlT01 1 year ago
You obviously haven't ever been to a dragstrip. Cars that "feel" pretty fast don't just go run 13s. A 7.0 second 0-60 time (pretty decent) comes out to a low 15 second 1/4 mile just for refference. In 105 degree heat with some elevation (5026 ft DA), a 14.0 @ 100 mph is a fast car. 2005 - 2010 GTs (5 spd or auto) average 14.5 @ 98 mph here.
gtdrummerdude 1 year ago
you cant say a 7.0 second 0-60 comes to a low 15 sec 1/4 mile. my friends 2009 g8 gt does 0-60 about 5.5 sec, and a 13.8 sec 1/4mile. my dad's friends 1992 camaro does 0-60 about 6.5 sec, but does a 13.5 sec 1/4 mile.
airsoftg0d 1 year ago
0-60 time is a big generalization. There are tons of factors that come into play. 0-60 in 6.5 is slow for a 13.5 tho. The main problem I see with what you said is that I know for a fact that you haven't seen either of those cars go down the 1/4 mile yourself, you just listened to what they told you and believed it. If that Camaro is doing 6.5 second 0-60s it aint doing 13.5, that's for sure.

NO lag! I sale them. drive very quick off the line. If you get one though make sure it has the performance pkg (optional! Dumb i know! but rides a little rougher since it was meant for the track guys and it has higher gears)
xem727 2 years ago
I'm going to have to agree with xem727. Twin turbo = faster spooling, plus if the engine is a 3.5 V6 pushing 365 horsepower, they can't be that big, and it's a big V6 spooling them up. I've had a few 3000GT VR4s, stock, upgraded turbos, etc. At a stock 320hp with 9b twin turbos, it's an instant spooling ride.
With an automatic paired up to the 3.5 V6 TT, I can only see quick spooling going on.

GunnerTHB 2 years ago
Everything is heavy now days. A new civic SI weighs the same as my Mustang lol. Last time I weighed it, it was 2870. There is just a lot more "stuff" in today's cars. Old cars are made of steel and iron but they're still lighter because it's just a frame with a shell. You can crawl up in the wheel wells, sit in the engine bay, etc. They don't have plastic and foam stuffed into every crevis for no reason like new cars.

FORD FUCKIN RULES!!!
MrSHELBYCOBRA 2 years ago
To each his own but the numbers don't do much for me, especially considering the hp this thing is supposed to be putting out. I love the new SHO but to sum it up: Two things for: Great hole shot capabilities thanks for the 4 wheel drive and the ability to maintain power at high altitudes. Three things against: Big/heavy, poor quarter trap and speed, top speed limited to 120 something. (Don't have it in front of me) 2 of these things can be rectified with tuning but we'll see.
SirtubalotTX 2 years ago
Point well taken but 99 in the quarter is still not that fast in the quarter, even in real life situations. Cars have become much faster in general in the last few years and there are now many crossovers/suvs that run quite a bit' faster than that. Like I said, nothing wrong with the SHO, I was just expecting more. What's cool is I just found out that Ford is planning on putting this drive line in the fusion so that should up the ante as well.
SirtubalotTX 2 years ago
...i'd say 99 is a pretty high trap. Higher than probably 85% of the cars on the road.
rm125 2 years ago
I like the new SHO although I'm a little indifferent to the performance. It's not limp wrist or anything but to be honest I expected a bit' better of a showing. It looks like it can crack of a decent 0-60 (around 5ish) but can't really heat it up after that. (14 to high 13s quarter with 100 to 103 quarter). For a big 4 door its decent but nothing to write home about performance wise. It will be interesting to see how it responds to tuning so maybe some redeeming qualities there.
SirtubalotTX 2 years ago

I agree to a certain extent.
However throw a good driver behind a newer 350z, 335i or Cobra and you're going to get left behind.

They say 13.7 for the new 350Z
s but I raced a brand new one with a manual and the dude could drive good. He got off to a way better start because I didn't think he was gonna race, so he got a car length on me but then I stayed right behind him. It was a 2008. Did the same thing with an S2000 when I had 550 lbs of passengers in my car and the S2000 just had the driver.

Whos they?
I've seen them do mid 13s consistently.
......As a drag racer you should know that what "they" say doesn't go.

Yeah clearly your car isn't the "average 5.0L."
Nice runs. I'll be headed to the track for my last run of the season....first pass in cool weather.. hoping to beat my PB of 13.
For the winter I've got an IC/Cam/42# setup coming together.

id spank both of em with a 21 year old mazda turbo but for a 4 door thats sick ill wait 2 more years and get a jeep grand cherokee srt8 for my wife just my opinion to much for a ford.... go look at my 13.6 second mazda runs heheheh ask me how much i spent
mbehle84 2 years ago

Drmand3 2 years ago
go and drive a new sho! that car is worth every penny there asking for. this is not the same taurus we grew up seeing.
braddfordy 2 years ago 4
well its a nice car first off if you can afford it and you want it go buy it if you cant there are other cars out there for you. also what makes the SHO amazing is it has a v6 with 365 hp where as the v8 hemi that is put into the chrysler 300c has 345. A v6 that can go 0-60 in 5.2 seconds thats pretty impressive.
bassguitardude41 2 years ago 2
i can afford it...trust me....its just...i dnt trust ford...they break down...a tad bit tooooo easily....thats my opinion...sorry
Drmand3 2 years ago
no problem man i agree with your opinion of ford i think fords reliability has increased over the past 3 years though. by the way you dont have to be sorry im just letting you know why people would want to buy it.
bassguitardude41 2 years ago
ITS COOL...
Drmand3 2 years ago
Even though its turbo charged and most turbo engines gota run 91 octane or higher, but does the ECO Boost engine in the SHO is tuned for 87 octane from the factory?
Deeeeeeeeee1 2 years ago
someone who wants the speed of a mustang with four doors,a trunk and a sleeper look buys an SHO...thats the point of the SHO. Find another car that has more ALL AROUND for the money... Not easy.
sdustin85 2 years ago 2
Wealthy older people who sometimes need to carry four aboard but want a sexy car not a boat to drive every time they turn the key. It not a car for kids. It is a luxury sports sedan.
charles43110 2 years ago
Drmand3, the Mustang GT is nowhere near 30k, try 26. And I admit I paid a bit for my 2010 SHO, but it's worth every penny. And it's not just the "thrust" of a V8, it's more like a slingshot, drive one or keep it shut.
As far as the recession, FORD is the ONLY of the BIG THREE that DID NOT take ONE CENT from the government, not one cent of that bailout money, Billions went to GM and Crysler. You're a goddamn idiot.
HypnoticSuggestion 2 years ago
whoa there asshole....i dnt give a shit if they didnt borrow money from the government....to me they still are not reliable....what does a bailout and reliability have to do with each other?....yea thats what i thought...nothing....and the premium...convertible gt's....are 35k....so calm down...dnt go have a temper tantrum....and idc what chu just bought....40k...is toooo much for a ford...a C class Mercedes costs less....so dnt try to jump on me...callin me a idiot...fagget
