can you tell me in which hospital was it?I will warn everyone against that place <
God ! I am so sorry for you, rarely can you see such ignorant , heartless and impersonal doctors and nurses as those were, they seem to ignore your presence and behave as if you were some training robot with no feelings or free will..and that midwife ! she was supposed to help and give support ? ? she should change her profession .
Wow what a journey! I had both my daughter's with a midwife at a birthing center in Jacksonville, Florida. Now that we live in Tennessee, in the location that we live, we don't have that option. I frankly am scared to death to have the baby that I am pregnant with now at the hospital!!!
I'm so sorry that this happened to you, but I'm also very glad you posted this because it shows us that we must do our research and educate ourselves. It isn't safe to leave our births in the hands of others. Knowledge is power and in order to get the outcome we want, we need to equip ourselves with as much knowledge as possible. Thank you so much for posting this!
The number of medical errors made by the hospital staff during your birth outnumber the spaces allowed for this answer. On your behalf I am disgusted. I have never and would never treat a birthing mother and her baby in this manner. Please, to all expectant parents watching this - let this be a WARNING to you. Give birth at home or in a birthing centre, and visit it first, talk with the staff. Read and learn before you have your baby. And above all - write a birth plan!
OK, a very heated debate is going on, which hopefully will revert back to some level of respect and civility on both sides. The beauty of our country is that you have the option to pursue whichever birthing option you personally think is safest, which is ultimately the MOST important thing for a laboring mama. It is critical for all moms to do their own research from many sources to obtain information. Regardless of a mother's choices, there is no need for hatred based on differing opinions.
@JulieFilter That thing I was saying a few weeks ago that you made me feel supported :-( You still do and I'm sorry that people don't understand and are so closed minded. Stay strong and I am so impressed that you have let the debate continue. If people could manage to keep it civilized, then it would be a great discussion to hear both sides... unfortunately some of the people commenting make me think of an orbitz commercial where their calling people Doo Doo heads and Lint Lickers :-)
@kismutt1 Aquadural or water birth is the best way to relieve the pain naturally. Studies show that in Canada 100% of women who did water birth never asked for any pain medication! As well as Hypnobirthing helps a lot! And nice trained friends around, birthing ball, a good doula and good food, water, positive imaginary, yoga techniques, relaxation techniques.. I had it all! So it was absolutely perfect!
@kismutt1 You just don't have any knowledge!..no reason to talk to you..I have read just basic things you need to know before getting any medicine - like side-effects and risks. And at the end I'm not a drug-addict or user of any kind, but epidural contains narcotics such as fentanyl and sufentanil, as well epinephrine, fentanyl, morphine, or clonidine which are opioids. No way I'm letting anyone to put this stuff into my body! and even worse into my baby's body-because everything crosses placenta!
You are rude! Speading lies about hospital births!! You are brainwashed. BEFORE the epideral, I was vomiting because the pain in my lower back was so bad. It felt like a knife being stabbed in my back. I was passing out, and vomiting again. After I asked for the epideral and got it, it was smooth sailing from there :) Most woman choose to have an epideral.
@kismutt1 You even can't spell 'epidural' right! I'm glad it worked for you but unfortunately it fully works for only 70% of women. Also it can slow down labour, cause dropping in the blood pressure-very dangerous for the baby! Cause allergic reactions in both! Can cause bladder dysfunction, uncontrollable shivering, itching, fever, feeling of emotional detachment, loss of perineal sensation and sexual function, inability to push and more...
@kismutt1 For me birth is also a spiritual event. And there is nothing spiritual about drugged hospital birth! And also epidural is one of the reasons we have nowadays so many drug addicts! study shows 4,7 times more! It's not even children's fault-it's parents stupid wish to have pain-free drugged labour-many by the they don't get it pain-free! and 3x more die because of epidural, so it's not so great at last!!!
@kismutt1 You are really rude person! Poor children of yours! My boy never cried longer than 2 minutes and I think this is the result of natural stress-free labor and water birth. As well as right after birth no one injected needles in him, nor put antibiotics in his eyes-that's the main reason I dislike hospitals! If mother is healthy and has no infections why would you routinely torture all babies? I am against all vaccines too, so you probably will hate me even more now! LOL
@kismutt1 So many friends of mine who gave birth in hospitals were not allowed nor to eat nor to drink! How did you get so lucky?? I'm not judging you, but you for sure didn't know all the risks of epidural and all the benefits of water birth!!! Did you have episiotomy or forceps, pitocin, back pain after birth? Did epidural blocked all the pain? Did you have breastfeeding problems/pain? Going to bathroom was painful? —my friends got all of these things, so I'm just curious!
@Cranebird Epideral was a dream! I went from over the top pain to zero pain! I slept until it was time to push. I pushed for 5 minutes and he was born. Absoultey no pain from the epideral, no back pain, nothing. I would do it again and again.
@kismutt1 my friends mother and my grandmother had uterus prolapse in their hospital births, because of coached pushing and position on their back. They almost died, but the saddest thing they never could have children again.Emergencies do happen, but most often because of wrong teachings and wrong opinions. Hypnobirthing teaches us not to push, but to breath the baby out!and it works amazingly! No tearing, and very fast! It took only 1 contraction for whole baby to come out! Knowledge is everything!!
@kismutt1 are you just trying to pay attention to yourself or what? Everybody knows how much suffering women are going through in hospitals! even so much that they ask for narcotics like opium or morphine.. in home births women feel happier and more empowered and many nowadays start to have orgasmic births! Don't take that opportunity away from any woman!!!
@kismutt1 You are skeptical because you have never seen orgasmic birth nor experienced one. I have both seen and experienced! And it's total bliss! But you have to prepare a lot to be able to relax and let it go! If you tense your body the hormones of stress will take over and pain begin-that's what happens to unprepared women.. But if you relax and put all your fear aside a GREAT birth experience begin!!! And it's rarely possible in hospital..it's much easier to achieve at home!
@kismutt1 When you are giving birth naturally and you are not afraid then hormones like oxytocin (hormone of love!) take over-they block all the pain and then orgasmic birth is very possible. But there has to be a preparation done.. because our society put fear in all women's heads, now we have to teach ourselves to relax and not to be afraid!
@Cranebird your are forgetting, I had a completely NATURAL birth in hospital, and it was FAR from orgasimic. It was the WORST pain you can imagine. Now go get lost!
I'm crying, I am so so so sorry that this happens to many women and babies… IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN THIS WAY EVER!!! NO DRUGS IN LABOUR! NO POSITIONS ON THE BACK, NO CORD CLAMPING BEFORE IT STOPPED PULSATING!!!! ..Next time do homebirth with a doula and midwife..
@Cranebird I actually have my first homebirth on here too, which I recommend you see. It was great! I am now nearly due with our 5th baby and 4th homebirth, so we are just waiting to see when this little one will arrive. My apparent custom is to be overdue with my babies =0) God bless!
that looked like one of the most painful births i have ever seen you poor thing congrats but! u did ur best. i luv the name lilyanna! congrats guys! <3
I never wanted a "natural birth." I always felt that it was not natural to be in so much pain and not want drugs. Then I started to think about all the C-Sections going around and watched the Business of Being Born and now I think I have no choice. I would love to be at a natural birthing center with midwives with some basic supplies if absolute need be. Doctors treat sick people and pregnant women are not sick!
@chefshelly02 Read Hypnobirthing book! I read it in two days and made all my labour support to read it before the birth! It's telling you how to give birth naturally and pain-free! You can also watch my homebirth here, just put in: Martin's birth. :) I had an amazing experience! :) Was walking 5 minutes before and after birth! :))
Also got a staff infection from a clip on cubs head they insisted had to be done.. My 3rd.. Was a water Home Birth.. Beautiful, Calm and peaceful.. Got to sleep for 20min in the pool right before transition was the Awesome break I needed.. He was Huge too.. 9lb6oz. My 4th will be the same..
I was in tears at your tears from not getting your baby.. I myself live in Australia and Have had similar experiences with my first two.. No.1 I went in 5cm and they insisted on breaking my water and then everything happened Quickly and I tore very badly cause they want to hurry you. No.2 Was induced I didn't know even a small amount of the dangers of the drugs they use.. Using pintocin sent my uterous into hypertension and had a delivery in under 3hrs.
I notice Navy sweats and hubby looks military... did you deliver in a military hospital? I am due in March and realize their CNM are that by name only... mention water or home births to them and they have a cow. So what would be your advice for those of us that are delivering in a hospital? I'm planning on waiting till the last second. and I hired a Doula... hubby is deployed, so no go on homebirth.
@iamapaininthebut Yes, this was at a military hospital in Hawaii. I have had three homebirths since this event, and my husband remains active duty military. You technically still could do a homebirth, even with him deployed, with a CPM midwife and supportive women around you, but if the hospital is your best choice, than I recommend REALLY being knowledgeable and educated on birth. Study, study, study. Read Ina May Gaskins books, Study natural birth, watch Biz of being born and Preg. in America
@iamapaininthebut (to continue)...The more educated and prepared you are to stand your ground and not let yourself fall into the traps of the intervention domino effect the more likely you will get the birth you want. Many women have successful drug-free, natural, and thrilling births in the hospital. You CAN do it!
@iamapaininthebut Also, the blessings of the husband in the hospital is really helpful as a barrier for you to protect you from the hospital staff. You should not need to deal with politics. You need someone there who will fight for you and be your answering person, so that you can focus on the one thing you're supposed to be doing...laboring and birthing a baby. You need supportive women and people encouraging you that you CAN get through this contraction, and you CAN do this!
@JulieFilter Protect you from the hospital staff?? Give me a break!! NO one forced you to go to a hospital. No one forces you to have an epideral. No one forces you to do ANYTHING. Heck, you could get up off the bed and walk out!! So if it was so bad, why didn't you leave? Because you are just being dramatic, thats why.
@kismutt1 Well..society, husbands in many cases, parents, OB/GYN and many other people kind of tell you that hospital is the only normal option for birth. And if you don't do your own research, then you are trapped.. And if you trust hospital stuff and agree with everything they suggest-every woman would end up this way..especially with the 1st birth. Thank God there is much information and videos now to teach women and tell about the risks!
@Cranebird Because of the privacy act, hospitals can't put on Youtube tube the amount of women that come into the emergency room after a home birth or when they are in trouble due to midwives who do not know what they are doing. If the public knew how many women come into the emerg. they would think twice about doing a home birth.
@kismutt1 That is so not true!Homebirths with midwives in US has the lowest death rate in healthy women (0.17%),compared to hospital births (0.72%)!How about countries with the lowest death rates like Singapore, Bermuda, Sweden, Japan, Hong Kong, Iceland, Netherlands and many more countries? What do they do to keep mortality rates low?-They have midwifery care as a primary care, birthing centers and home as primary places to give birth!US is the only country in the world where OB's are surgeons!!
@kismutt1 And even if the woman needs to be transferred to hospital after home birth, the outcome is practically 99% better than it would be if she would start at the hospital! I would like to propose a name "failed hospital birth" for 90% of hospital births where the damage is done to the baby, to the mother or to the breastfeeding relationships!!!
@Cranebird The women end up in hospital, needing stitches, they are hemmoraging, and even uteruses prolapsing. You have been brainwashed by the "midwife" industry. After seeing what comes through the emergency doors from "home births", I would NEVER do a home birth with a midwife.
@kismutt1 When I was going to have a home birth, I interviewed quite a few midwives in NYC, and they ALL knew how to do stitching, they ALL were allowed to use pitocin to stop hemorrhage! I think you don't know what you are talking about. Those factors which you wrote are NOT emergencies of home births! And all Certified Nurse Midwives bring all the necessary equipment. No one pushes you to have a home birth. But I was EXTREMELY HAPPY with my experience and all my friends who had home births!!!
@kismutt1 I think the most part of our society has been brain-washed about hospital births, about pain and use of drugs!Too many C-sections happen and too many interventions performed which lead to so many bad outcomes!!!1 in 2,500 women dies having C-section, instead only 1 in 10,000 die in vaginal delivery.. so..you might want to reconsider. How many damaged uteruses and no possibility of giving birth after hospital births?!The numbers are much greater!Home birth is safe! And don't mislead women!
@Cranebird 1 in 2500 people die of c-sections?? LOL LOL you are really distorted. Get your facts straight before making an idiot of yourself all over youtube. Show me a link to where 1 in 2500 women die of c-sections! Show me a link where you see the numbers of women in the USA and Canada that can no longer have another baby after a hospital birth. Give me a break. You have the IQ of a tree frog.
@kismutt1 It is all over the internet that 1 in 2500 women die undergoing a C-section, but it comes from 'Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology' originally.
If you had a nice hospital delivery,I am happy for you!But millions of women and babies suffered and died! I would suggest you to read Hypnobirthing book,as it has the history of birth in it!And do not insult mothers who did a pain-free successful home births!
@Cranebird Again, send a link. You are full of crap. And I did not insult any woman if they choose to go painfree. I said go to a hospital. You are the one insulting the 94% of women who DO choose to go to a hospital. And, that won't change, women are smart enough to realize a hospital birth is far more safer.
@kismutt1 Just go to google and put in 1 in 2,500 woman dies in C-section.You will get lots of links. But as I told, the source is the research from Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.Hospital births at this point are really not safe!In hospital they don't let you drink or eat-it makes contractions really painful, but sometimes even make labour stop! Lithotomy position is the most dangerous position-because the weight of the baby is pressing on vena cava increasing the chance of fetal distress..
@kismutt1 There are so many wrong things performed in the hospital! Even not counting the interventions.. For example cutting the blood cord right after birth-it's very dangerous procedure, because baby still received the oxygen through the blood which comes from placenta..and iron.. I think this leads to many respiratory complications in babies like asthma.. and vitamin K injection-can cause Leukemia in baby, Hepatitis B-why do they do that to babies??? Have you ever asked these questions?
@kismutt1 Women who have cesareans suffer from more infertility than women who have vaginal births. This infertility is related directly to the physical effects of the surgery.Women who had c-sections are also less likely to want to become pregnant again.
The risks for ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, placenta previa, placenta accreta, and placental abruption are all higher for women who've had cesarean surgery. These conditions can endanger the life of both mother and baby.
@kismutt1 continued: after Cesarean future babies are more at risk for preterm birth and have an increased risk of stillbirth. It is also possible that they may be at risk for more malformations or more nervous system damage while growing in a scarred uterus.
@kismutt1 Uterus prolapse is very rare and practically happens only if you have a vaginal delivery after Cesarean. But why do women decide to do a home birth after Cesarean?Because they're disappointed and even scared to go back to hospital..they don't want to have the same experience! So they try!And there're SO many happy stories! Many more than C-section after C-section..But seriously, I'm from Europe-all doctors are midwives there!Surgeons come into the picture rarely only when truly necessary!
@Cranebird I have 2 boys, and both my experiences in hospital with fully licences OBY GN's were perfect. They were kind, they treated me with dignity and respect, and most of all, I had REAL help when I got into difficulty. I had my first with epideral and my second with nothing. I would NEVER do it without epideral again. Not that I plan on having more :)
@kismutt1 I'm happy that you had quite good experience. But did you know that epidural increases maternal mortality rate 3x?And also that baby will be a opium addict later in life 4.7 times?Go google all the risks of epidural and you maybe will think twice before recommending it to anyone..I had a natural practically pain-free labour! And water birth was most amazing thing for me!And all women were thrilled by how the body works when stress-free and naturally knows everything—watch Martin's birth!
@kismutt1 I have so many friends who did home births with their children and ALL of them were happy! Also when I interviewed midwives their transfer rate to the hospital was 1% of all births!!And the outcomes still were very good!No one ever died in their practice nor child, nor mother! And you seriously have to look at the numbers:Home birth 0.17% infant mortality rate (here are counted hospital transfers) or 0.72% infant mortality rate in hospital births..but for you birthing center is an option!
@Cranebird And I have had so many friends do hospital births that were thrilled!! My hairdresser decided she would try home birth. She ended up in ambulance in the hospital. She came very close to bleeding to death. Her uterus prolapsed and the stupid LICENSED midwives let it happen. How much education does a midwife have? VERY little. How much education does an OBGYN have? About 12 yrs. of med. school, and 10's of thousands of deliveries under his belt.
@kismutt1 I have always heard the opposite stories..my 2 close friends almost died at the hospital from a blood loss..and how many times woman is alone in the room and only the nurse comes in rarely..the fear and tension rises and pain increases because of that..and OB/GYN sometimes doesn't show up at all..this one is very popular in NYC! did you watch the Business of being born or any other documentaries on how bad hospital birth situation over all is right now?
@Cranebird yes, I watched that documentry and it made me laugh. It is the brainwashing of midwives who created that. The fact remains that 94% of women in the US and Canada go to hosptial and WILL continue to go to hospital, because the are smart enough to know that it is FAR safer. Midwives can't and never will be able to compete with hospital births.
@kismutt1 Well,we really've different opinions and my knowledge tells me that I will never give birth at hospital because of many different factors..and now many women transfer to home births and birthing centers and I really hope that this will continue! If hospital will change their policy about eating, drinking, moving freely and following natural process of birth, trying to avoid all interventions and helping women to give birth naturally..when this will happen maybe I'll think differently!
@kismutt1 Midwife-CNM has 8 years of education!Yes,OB/GYN has 12 yrs.,but he is learning only how to treat sick women. Many OB's have never seen a natural birth! Many have 100% C-section rate! Many perform stupid episiotomy every time, even when baby is 6 lbs!Even many nurses in the hospital tell that they've NEVER seen a truly natural birth without any interventions!-Because doctors are getting paid for every single intervention they do!Where are we heading?.I guess to hell!but no,I'm not with you!
@Cranebird Again, 94% of women in the USA and Canada go to hospitals to deliver their babies so they have a much SAFER deliver. 94% of women will CONTINUE to go to hospital to deliver their babies, because they want a choice of epideral or not. Are you insulting 94% of women? I think this conversation has run it's course, it is a shame you are brainwashed by midwives who want MONEY. They are NOT free, honey. They charge huge amounts of money.
@kismutt1 Honey, most insurances in most states nowadays pay midwives in full! Mine did! But what really is very important-they have one cost no matter what! OB/GYN receive more for every intervention..so it's good money-wise for them to perform as many interventions as possible! And for Cesarean they receive the biggest amount!-that's why it's so popular!I'm not insulting any mother of her choice. But I think every woman should read the risks of all interventions before having a hospital birth!
@Cranebird You have not listened to a word I said. I have 2 boys and both were born in hospital. I had WONDERFUL experiences, and neither the doctors or nurses pushed "interventions". I demanded the epideral. I demaned it! I also ate, drank, paced the halls, sat, stood, and did whatever I wanted. Do NOT try to say the staff at hospitals do not let you do what you want. They are helpful, and you are in the SAFEST hands..
@kismutt1 Ok, why then so many women tell exact opposite? Even my close friends tell that they had terrible hospital experiences? Why the doctors do not inform mothers well about the risks of interventions, why do they give routinely drugs like pitocin after birth even if the mother is not hemorrhaging? Why do they clamp the chord too early? Why do they do so many things unnaturally? And the last fact-hospital births have highest infant and maternal rates in the world! Not safe hands at all..
@kismutt1 After seeing what comes through the back halls from labor/ triage from hospital birth compared to what comes through the front door to ER from homebirth... I'm terrified to do a hospital birth. Clearly your personal choice is the hospital, but ours is homebirth. And we are choosing to let women know their options. There are and always will be risks to both, my personal findings in studies and what I have witnessed assures me hospital births risks outway the benifits... For you it's dif
@kismutt1 just stop scaring women about home births! You've never experienced it! So you have no idea how wonderful it is! When my mother witnessed it, she was so happy, but as well sad that millions of women suffer so much..and don't know this WONDERFUL option!!!
@kismutt1 Uhm, I never emailed you sunshine. If you are being serious that you did get an email from me, I apologize, cuz my email was hacked for awhile, so if the email has a link, plz don't open it. And no, I won't be asking for the epidural... I've done the research and like I said, it isn't for me... you shouldn't judge others so harshly. It is a very personal choice and not thank god I'm choosing hospital birth, I know it's all wrong for me.
@kismutt1 Quite simply, a lot of women get the line "it's better for the baby" when it may not be... so they end up doing everything the hospital staff says and it is not in the best interest of mama or baby. There are many studies to show a lot of the hospital practices are unnecessary and dangerous. Since the majority of women started doing births in hospitals, the maternal death rate has significantly increased while there has been no noticeable improvement to the neonatal death rate.
@kismutt1 And she's not being dramatic. This was her first birth, she did walk out, for her next baby she just said no. I am choosing a hospital birth because I have zero family for thousands of miles due to Military and my husband may still be over seas. And I have been told by 90% of the women that this hospital lies and says things are regulation and tries for C-section on almost every birth. They've talked to me about scheduling one twice because my baby "might be big". So yes I'm scared
@iamapaininthebut Do you want me to come for your birth? I'm seriously ready to fly thousands of miles to help you! :) when is your due date? I'm live in NYC. my email is margaritakrein@gmail.com I'm the mother in Martin's birth video! He is almost 8 months and super-healthy!
@Cranebird Aww, that is so sweet <3 But I'm going to stay with the hospital birth because when I do have the experience of homebirth (or even a birthing center) I want hubby to be able to experience it too. I don't want him to miss the miricle unintruded on by doctor's making me cranky coming in every 15 min. He's my calm waters you know? But that is a really sweet offer <3 Thank you :-)
@iamapaininthebut Yes, I understand. You need even more support if you are going for the hospital birth! They allow a doula and up to 2 friends/relatives in hospital birth rooms! I flew to Argentina when I was 7 months pregnant to support my friend for her hospital birth! :) Just email me, let's talk about it, but not here! I'm very calm person and I know exactly what you need to have the best experience!
@iamapaininthebut If hospitals were sooooo bad, you wouldn't be going to a hospital! But, you know the truth, that it is the safest way to do it!! You are being a hypocrite bashing hospital births, when you yourself are going to a hospital! Good choice! Husband or no husband, if you felt that strongly about a home birth you wouldn't go to a hospital. Again, don't be afraid to ask for an epideral! No shame in that!
@kismutt1 Again, you have not paid attention to my other posts... I couldn't afford the home birth. I am not a midwife, nor do I have that knowledge. And please, we get that you disagree, you have rudely made it known over and over, now leave us alone. We are entitled to our own opinions. Oh and FYI, I found funding... so I am doing a homebirth. I will let you know when my baby boy is safely in my arms and we have no negative side effects of the chemicals you insist on pumping into your body.
@iamapaininthebut You do not need naysayers, or people whispering into your ear that things would be better with an epidural, drugs, induction, c-section...whatever. And, the more studied you are in the facts and truth, the more you will be flowing in that truth when the mental games begin, which will happen. Plan to waiver...so plan to need people walking with you through it. I would really like to hear how everything goes when you do give birth! You CAN do this! Congratulations =0)
@JulieFilter I just got all teary eyed, lol, may be the horomones. The more research I do, the more I know I don't want a hospital birth. I am doing it for this one so for the next birth hubby can experience our homebirth. I will let you know how hospital birth goes. Thank you for the encouragement, I needed it!
@iamapaininthebut How far are you?I transferred to midwives and homebirth when I was 8.5 months pregnant! The thing is that water birth is the best option!+Hypnobirthing (I read this book in 2 days and was absolutely amazed!!)And I did water birth and it was fantastic!you should try to arrange water birth!(but don't go in a hot tub/shower during the 1st stage-it can slow labor or even stop it) for birth water does amazing things!!And it's so natural for baby to go from water into water!
@Cranebird 7.5 months, but it's just not an option this birth. Due to money and ins won't cover it, plus hubby might not be home for it. I would love a water birth at home, but it's jst not in the cards. I'm thinking of starting to advocate having my ins cover birthing centers at the very least... So idk, we'll see. I feel like I have a strong enough will to say no in the hospital. I will never understand why society spends so many years saying say no to drugs then for this says "get the drugs"
@iamapaininthebut Oh, so you ARE having a hospital birth. Good choice! And, thank God Insurance won't pay for home births :) Enjoy the epideral that you WILL be asking for :)
I'm so sorry you went through this. The births of my sons were quite similar. Two bad experiences left me KNOWING that unless there's a reason not to, my next child will be born at home. <3 Light and blessings to you and your beautiful family.
You poor thing! I don't have any children yet, but my husband and I hope to have our first somewhere next year. I felt so sorry for you, especially because they try to rush things (never rush nature!!) and don't even let you hold your baby right after birth.
I chose for not liking the video. Not because of the nature or quality, but because of the cruelty of the hospital staff.
i WAS IN WITH MY NEICE SHE WAS HAVING HER 3RD ..SHE HAD JUST BEEN GIVIN AN EPIDURAL SEEING HER SHAKE I REALLY THOUGHT IT WAS TO LATE..WE WERE SITTING THERE TALKING NOBODY CHECKED HER CERVIX WHICH WAS STRANGE BECAUSE SHE WAS IN ALOT OF PAIN..AND USUALLY YOULL HERE A NURSE SAY WELL LETS JUST CHECK THINGS OUT IF YOUR STILL FEELING IT ..SHE THEN SAID I FEEL SOMETHING ON MY LEG .YEP THE NURSE PULLED BACK THE COVERS AND THERE WAS THE BABY WITH THE CORD AROUND HIS NECK ..TG HE WAS OK
@giantsfan562001 While checking the cervix isn't always necessary, after an epidural they should be extremely attentive cuz mama can be slightly (or it sounds like here, very) disoriented. I am glad both of them were ok... I'd be worried about delivery in that hospital and I hope mama got checked after, that shaking isn't good at anytime during delivery!
much of this happened to me and my baby too.amazing how ignorant educated medical people are.no wisdom.highly recommend Business of Being Born to all.My baby is retarded due in part to the Demoral.sad,eh?laying on our backs...hooked up to needles..talked to like we are 5 years old...patronized and told we dont know how to do the most natural thing we were created for.amazing how most women have given their power away.let's TAKE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
@kismutt1 WOW. So you're that old and being rude to people on youtube? You're cool. I feel bad for your children, luckily they are grown. I've seen so many of your comments where you spew negativity to other women. The comment about the mentally retarded child was very uncalled for. Shame on you.
@tayboox33 The lady was trying to blame the hospital for her mentally retarded child. I find it very rude that midwives and people like you who hate OBGYN's spew garbage on youtube. Do you see Doctor's on here spewing garbage about midwives? No, because they are professionals and don't have time to be so immature. However, everywhere you go on youtube, midwives are spewing garbage and negativity about Doctors and hospitals.
@kismutt1 Who EVER said I hated ob's? I actually love mine. I would love to try a home birth one day, and I don't think there's anything wrong with a hospital birth. Where am I spewing garbage at? Lady, you're crazy. You also have no idea what happened to that lady during her birth, or whether or not the drugs she was given caused her baby to have mental disabilities. I've also never once heard a midwive put down an ob. NEVER. You need to grow up already, it'd be about damn time.
I really wish you hadn't put the music in the video.... Very disappointing. I really wanted to hear everything that was going on. It sucks you had to go through this. Could you possibly upload the video without the music? Thanks.
You poor thing. They did that to me with my first child. When i had twins 10 years later I didnt get to see them untill almost 5pm. They were born at 8:24 am. i was beyond mad. And these nurses need to stop with speeding things up to make their jobs easier. Let your body do what it knows how to do. I agree with your next baby being born at home.
@kecoziahr Thanks! I have had three at home so far and they have each been beautiful and special in their own way, all be it difficult. I would never change it for the world. I am now pregnant with baby #5, which will be another home birth in water, as always. =0) Thanks for your support.
girl let me tell you .. i aint ever been that lucky to get to have my children vaginally but i would be terrified to do it at home...... i mean it would be awesome and if i didnt have panic disorder i would have tried but me having that i would freak the f out at the smallest little things... i had c sections on both my children...every since i have problems with my body left and right......stomach problems lots of them...bowel problems! i would luv to be able to have my children vaginal!!
well i just went through three labors painfull but not totally drug free i had potosum with my last two because one was breech and when she turned about two days later i went into labor and my last one the doctor just had a stick up his butt and wanted to put me into labor three days before i was even to deliever but other then the speedy meds i went through pain med free and only my first one was the painful one i screamd with contractions but i wish i would of done home birth with two because
She is adorable! I am so sorry that happened to you :[ that is why I want a homebirth. The medical system really disgusts me, they are horrible, all about the money and getting moms in and out.
@156409 I hope you also watch my homebirth video =0) I have had 3 homebirths since my first birth (this video) and I have absolutely loved them. Aside from serious medical necessity, we will not be having any babies in the hospital =0) To each his own, but for our family, home is definitely best! =0)
yes , thanks for your wise comment. I wrote my emotional reaction to your video, however , rationally speaking I agree with you . wish you and your family all the best .. Agnes S. ( my real name )
I am sooooooooo very , terriibly sorry for you .I totally understand your frustration and anger, the feeling of helplesness.. not being able to decide about youself and your little baby .. that is a disgrace .. I went through a similar nightmare with my baby .. those damn jerks "doctors" "nurses" are too stupid and insensitive to understand anything ? !!! that's a scandal !
@2009janka Thanks Janka. I don't think that majority of the medical staff are insensitive, but sadly they are not trained in normal birth. If we taught that birth was a normal occurrence, rather than pathology (which is the study of disease), we would not treat it as something to be feared. Fear just breeds problems because every response is a plan for the potential worst, rather than dealing with what is actually occurring. I make decisions based on reality, not potential risk.
@sarabower1 Lol, absolutely not, but DEFINITELY not a huge baby by any stretch of the imagination. I'm 5'8 w/ 42 inch hips, so I could handle a larger baby. I know women who have birthed 10 and 11 lb babies (one woman who is about 5'2), so 8 lbs is not large at all.
@keliata Yes, I know. It was a very frustrating experience. Sadly I did not know enough to hold my ground or "be strong", but it's sad and disturbing to me that a woman in labor would need to fight for things like that. They make it look much more dramatic than it actually was regarding their need to suction my daughter. She was fine within seconds, but had they not cut the cord so quickly, she would have been fine period.
I am soooo sorry for you. I do understand you very well , I went through a similar trauma with my birth .. why on earth people who are supposed to guide , help and protect you and your baby turn out to be such terrible ignorants and morons ?! this is a disgrace ... they can't turn back time for us and our babies , to repair the damage they do with their stupidity
I am soooo sorry for you. Your video is amazing. Thank you SO MUCH for posting it. I am newly pregnant and trying to determine what type of care/birthing arrangements we will make. I have read many pros and cons to hospital births, home births, etc. and births with OBs versus midwives. Your video certainly gives me much more understanding. All the best to you and your family.
Hello, I believe if you didn't want doctors you should have stayed at home. My sister actually wanted all the drugs, but she was paranoid that she was just having pre-labor contractions so she waited till the last minute and ended up accidentally having "natural births" TWICE. She didn't have any doctors "forcing" her to have drugs because she wasn't at the hospital. You should try not going to the hospital at all, that guarantees no "intervention."
I agree...I am so, so surprised that they cut the cord before clearing out the baby's lungs. How ridiculous. These people seem incompetent. Especially to start doing interventions when you were barely 1cm dilated.
OMG I'm sorry u had to go through that! I've been seeing an OB at a hospital through my entire pregnancy. I have 5 weeks until my due date. Everything has been going smoothly and hopefully it will continue that way. If so, when the times comes to have my son, I will more than likely stay home. "Speeding things up" is NOT natural. The staff at the hospital are rude and act like they know more about my desires than I do. I've researched homebirth since my 1st OB visit. I am ready! Just waiting....
@TheLadyShred Being informed is the best thing you can do to get the birth you want. I was not informed beforehand for this birth. Now, I'm very comfortable with home births. I know not every1 feels comfortable with a home birth, so it's critical to feel comfortable where u birth, and to be knowledgeable about what you want, why you want it, and what you will not stand for during labor. I choose home births since I am low risk and do not want to be pestered. To each his own though. God bless!
@JulieFilter I agree 100%. "Pestered" is definately the word to use lol. I've only been seeing my OB to be sure that myself and my son are healthy, but I want to avoid submitting myself to a hospital. Some hospitals have very nice staff who understand and try to match the woman's desires, but mine isn't like that unfortunately. :( It's not like they can take things naturally, they just HAVE to intervene. Some women just want their birth over with, but I want to enjoy mine as much as possible.
@TheLadyShred I totally relate. I wish you the best with your birth! =0) Enjoy it and take charge of it. Make sure you have someone else with you to be your wall and shield against those who want to fight you. That's the most valuable thing ever in the hospital =0) Let me know how it goes! =0) God bless.
@TheLadyShred You don't have to go to an OB to get comprehensive prenatal care!!! Homebirth midwives can give you all the care you need, with referrals to get more technological help if needed. They can listen to your baby, feel baby's position, make sure they are growing, and check up on you as well. Don't go to the OB if you want a homebirth - start the prenatal relationship with a midwife now!
I agree you had a bad experience, again all i can say is birthing centre, birthing centre, birthing centre, best of luck when you do decide to have another baby, i hope it goes better and to how you would like it to.
dont feel bad when i went i was 4 cm after 1 hour then they told me i HAD to have a epidural or go home. i didnt want it but forced. i had all sorts of drugs i didnt want because the epidural stopped my labor completely. it was 16 hours later when i gave birth then they gave me something for pain which i wasnt told about. i was allergic. i passed out when i finally came to. i was allowed to hold her after 2 more hours. so not all experiences are good and more often then not they are all bad.
@Midnight0Dream Thanks a lot =0) I am definitely more informed now than I was before, so I can't say I feel badly, but it is irritating. I'm just glad I never had to experience that again! lol.
Wow! 40 hrs from start to finish! I could not imagine, at least I should say you got a beautiful daughter out of all of the pain and disappointment with the hospital. I also wanted to say I found your video b/c I typed Lilyanna in the search bar as we will be naming our daughter Lilyanna Hope, she is due June 2010, its neat to know there is another Lilyanna out there!
OMG! When I found out that hospitals don't let you hold your baby right away that turned me off. I could not imagine, and I have not even had kids. Thanks for the compare and contrast and sharing your life.
Not all hospitals have that policy, and many hospitals are coming around in this area, but it is still up for grabs and there remains the many issues surrounding all the interventions pressed in the hospitals. Overall, I recommend you do your homework for your area's hospital and make sure you know your reasons for denying interventions. Without a pressing "why" it is very difficult to remain unmovable when in the midst of hard labor.
So sorry it wasn't all you hoped. But you can most certainly plan for the best with your next armed with your new knowledge. I suggest lots of research. I have to have a hopital birth due to diabetes, but have a doula to be with me to make sure our birth plan is followed to the letter. I am excited, because I know this will be the best birth yet. :) Your next will be too. Stay positive!
Although we prefer and enjoy the home birth experience for our births, I COMPLETELY agree with you on this point! I absolutely think that you can have a wonderful natural birth experience in the hospital if you are armed with knowledge and the willingness to assert yourself (or someone else who will be able to do it) if pressured to do anything you would not want. I think it is wonderful you are excited about your upcoming birth! How great! Congrats and God bless!
We are very involved with the local midwife center who has connections with staff in the hospital which is awesome. We are working on a birth plan which the doula said she will make sure is adhered to (and the midwife said she is a momma bear about making sure a delivering mom isn't forced into anything). My first two births weren't traumatic, but still not quite what I wanted. I KNOW this time will be different. :)
Thank you for sharing this. I agree with you completely. Yes, we do have options at a hospital but a laboring woman is in no condition to argue and stand her ground. Especially when most hospital interventions are completely fear based. Thanks so much.
They LIED to her! That makes me so angry. What a horrid hospital and horrid staff!! They seem to have NO concept on what childbirth is suppose to be like and what will work. Jerks! I feel for this couple. Never should have happened this way.
Thank you so much for posting both your hospital & home births. My heart tells me I want a home birth for my first child. My head keeps telling me a hospital birth will hold less uncertainty -- but if that means intervention at the first opportunity, I'd rather stay home. A woman in the midst of labour is not in any position to refuse unnecessary intervention. A clear head & an understanding of natural, normal birth is required for that -- & for that I trust midwives over obstetricians.
not trying to play devils advocate or anything, but even in a hospital you always have the options to refuse any medication or procedures. im an OB nurse and have been for a few years now. im not saying everything they did was correct or even necessary...but you do have options and if you really take a stand for what you want, no one else can argue with you.
I totally agree with you, but not many people are able to "hold their ground" when they're asked over and over again "are you sure you don't want drugs?" when they're in the middle of intense active labor? That is when support for decisions made during lucid thinking is needed. I KNOW that I did NOT know enough at that time to hold my ground, which is not the truth now. It's my experience that it's always better to not HAVE to take a stand, but just make the statement early on and that's that
20 min. is horrible to have to wait to hold your baby, try 2hrs 10min. that's how long they made me wait to hold my firstborn. after an unnnecessary c-section they told me I couldn't hold her or see her because her temp was at 94.6 and she had to stay in the nursery warming bed until it was normal. Thank god i found the only place in my state that allows VBAC to deliver my 2nd child and best of all I had a midwife, who says the best way to get a baby's temp up is to be next to momma!
I couldn't agree more! That's such a shame that you had to wait 2 plus hrs. A friend of mine had a C-section and did not see her son for 4 hrs! And we wonder why parents are detached from their children. It's baffling.
omg, that actually made me cry. I can't beleive they even washed your baby before letting you hold her. You got ther all wrapped up, couldn't even see all of her. I would have wanted to take every bit of her in at once, even her tiny fingers and toes. I was thinking of studying to be a midwife. I will definatly make sure I do a better job than that, even if it is in a hospital, I can't beleive they didn't respect your wishes.
Thank you for showing this video. I am sorry that you went through this. I am so happy that you made the right move to not go through that ever again. You have been blessed with a 2 great babies, and a supportive family. You are educating many people. Please post more videos
I wouldn't have another hospital birth if mine had been that bad either. Congrats on two beautiful babies (or did I hear it's 3 now?) and for taking charge of your body!!
I'd love to see the video with no music though, I couldn't hear what you were saying and that's often the best fun during labor
Julie, thank you so much for posting this. I am due with my 2nd and really want to have a home birth, but my husband isn't comfortable with it. My dr. is very much a non-interventionist and I just pray at the time of birth that she doesn't change her mind. I have given my husband strict instructions to make our wishes for no pain meds or pitocin clear to the hospital.
Anyway, thank you again for posting! All moms and dads to be need to see this!
My first child (now 31) was born in a Military hospital. I wasn't allowed to see her until discharged, 72 hours later. I still have nightmares of the abuse I received. The mean nurses, being treated like an animal, the botched episiotomy that cut through the sphincter wall. It doesn't help when everyone tells you your experience "wasn't so bad after all". I am so sorry you had to suffer needlessly. I am sorry they stole your birth. It is not fair.
You're right, it's not fair. It's also not fair that your birth experience was so stressful that you continue, after 30 plus years, to suffer from it. It angers me to no end when people revert to the 'ole "at least you had a healthy baby." Yes, I am glad I had a healthy baby, but at what expense? I don't care whether or not people choose hospital births. I don't care if people get epidurals. I ONLY care that they know the full weight of their decisions when they are made! I did not. Most do not.
What I fear most is the doctors that lie to you, telling you what you want to hear. Then they get you in there and tell you that the baby is in distress. A c-section is the only thing that will save the baby. These poor women have no choice but to consent. Then they think this GOD of a doctor saved their life, and think any other choice but hospital birth is insane.
I commented on the other video, but this is exactly what happened to a friend of mine. Her doctor told her that the baby's cord was too close to her face and if she delivered like that it would suffocate the baby, which would then die or have brain damage! She freaked out because she thought her baby was on death's door. The staff did nothing to reassure her and allowed her to believe that. Obviously she was talked into a c-section. Oh, and the baby never did show signs of stress during labor.
Thank you for posting this video!I am 31 and expecting my first i still want to do the hospital but i dont like surprises i want to be prepared for anything!I am a student of psychology and live not to far from Bradley U. did you have any post part em depression?
Not full blown, but I mentioned having a difficult time accepting Lily as my baby. It was not conscious but I felt detached from her for probably a month or so. Eventually, thanks to nursing I would say, that bond was established, but it took much longer than I would have liked. I did not have that reaction at all with my second, or third, babies, both born at home.
The hospital tells you, "You're the one that came to us, now let us do our job!". When in reality you hired them so that you could have more help, not to give them a job.
can you tell me in which hospital was it?I will warn everyone against that place <

Good on you
I was born at home and saw my brother and sister been born at home and it was the best experience I ever had. I even got to help cut the cord!!!

JulieFilter 1 month ago

Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 You just don't have any knowledge!..no reason to talk to you..I have read just basic things you need to know before getting any medicine - like side-effects and risks. And at the end I'm not a drug-addict or user of any kind, but epidural contains narcotics such as fentanyl and sufentanil, as well epinephrine, fentanyl, morphine, or clonidine which are opioids. No way I'm letting anyone to put this stuff into my body! and even worse into my baby's body-because everything crosses placenta!
Cranebird 1 month ago
You are rude! Speading lies about hospital births!! You are brainwashed. BEFORE the epideral, I was vomiting because the pain in my lower back was so bad. It felt like a knife being stabbed in my back. I was passing out, and vomiting again. After I asked for the epideral and got it, it was smooth sailing from there :) Most woman choose to have an epideral.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 You even can't spell 'epidural' right! I'm glad it worked for you but unfortunately it fully works for only 70% of women. Also it can slow down labour, cause dropping in the blood pressure-very dangerous for the baby! Cause allergic reactions in both! Can cause bladder dysfunction, uncontrollable shivering, itching, fever, feeling of emotional detachment, loss of perineal sensation and sexual function, inability to push and more...
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 For me birth is also a spiritual event. And there is nothing spiritual about drugged hospital birth! And also epidural is one of the reasons we have nowadays so many drug addicts! study shows 4,7 times more! It's not even children's fault-it's parents stupid wish to have pain-free drugged labour-many by the they don't get it pain-free! and 3x more die because of epidural, so it's not so great at last!!!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 You are really rude person! Poor children of yours! My boy never cried longer than 2 minutes and I think this is the result of natural stress-free labor and water birth. As well as right after birth no one injected needles in him, nor put antibiotics in his eyes-that's the main reason I dislike hospitals! If mother is healthy and has no infections why would you routinely torture all babies? I am against all vaccines too, so you probably will hate me even more now! LOL
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Well, I got these facts from Obstetrician website..these are just regular facts every woman should know…and every husband too I suppose!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 So many friends of mine who gave birth in hospitals were not allowed nor to eat nor to drink! How did you get so lucky?? I'm not judging you, but you for sure didn't know all the risks of epidural and all the benefits of water birth!!! Did you have episiotomy or forceps, pitocin, back pain after birth? Did epidural blocked all the pain? Did you have breastfeeding problems/pain? Going to bathroom was painful? —my friends got all of these things, so I'm just curious!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird Epideral was a dream! I went from over the top pain to zero pain! I slept until it was time to push. I pushed for 5 minutes and he was born. Absoultey no pain from the epideral, no back pain, nothing. I would do it again and again.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 my friends mother and my grandmother had uterus prolapse in their hospital births, because of coached pushing and position on their back. They almost died, but the saddest thing they never could have children again.Emergencies do happen, but most often because of wrong teachings and wrong opinions. Hypnobirthing teaches us not to push, but to breath the baby out!and it works amazingly! No tearing, and very fast! It took only 1 contraction for whole baby to come out! Knowledge is everything!!

@Cranebird Again, PLEASE stop emailing me! You are a nut job too. Enough already! Go away! This conversation has run it's course, so please get lost.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 are you just trying to pay attention to yourself or what? Everybody knows how much suffering women are going through in hospitals! even so much that they ask for narcotics like opium or morphine.. in home births women feel happier and more empowered and many nowadays start to have orgasmic births! Don't take that opportunity away from any woman!!!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird OMG! Orgasmic births LOL LOL. O.K. we really know you are a total nut job now!
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 You are skeptical because you have never seen orgasmic birth nor experienced one. I have both seen and experienced! And it's total bliss! But you have to prepare a lot to be able to relax and let it go! If you tense your body the hormones of stress will take over and pain begin-that's what happens to unprepared women.. But if you relax and put all your fear aside a GREAT birth experience begin!!! And it's rarely possible in hospital..it's much easier to achieve at home!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 When you are giving birth naturally and you are not afraid then hormones like oxytocin (hormone of love!) take over-they block all the pain and then orgasmic birth is very possible. But there has to be a preparation done.. because our society put fear in all women's heads, now we have to teach ourselves to relax and not to be afraid!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird your are forgetting, I had a completely NATURAL birth in hospital, and it was FAR from orgasimic. It was the WORST pain you can imagine. Now go get lost!
kismutt1 1 month ago
I'm crying, I am so so so sorry that this happens to many women and babies… IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN THIS WAY EVER!!! NO DRUGS IN LABOUR! NO POSITIONS ON THE BACK, NO CORD CLAMPING BEFORE IT STOPPED PULSATING!!!! ..Next time do homebirth with a doula and midwife..
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird I actually have my first homebirth on here too, which I recommend you see. It was great! I am now nearly due with our 5th baby and 4th homebirth, so we are just waiting to see when this little one will arrive. My apparent custom is to be overdue with my babies =0) God bless!

Doctors treat sick people and pregnant women are not sick!
chefshelly02 1 month ago

RazCav84 1 month ago
I notice Navy sweats and hubby looks military... did you deliver in a military hospital? I am due in March and realize their CNM are that by name only... mention water or home births to them and they have a cow. So what would be your advice for those of us that are delivering in a hospital? I'm planning on waiting till the last second. and I hired a Doula... hubby is deployed, so no go on homebirth.
iamapaininthebut 2 months ago
@iamapaininthebut Yes, this was at a military hospital in Hawaii. I have had three homebirths since this event, and my husband remains active duty military. You technically still could do a homebirth, even with him deployed, with a CPM midwife and supportive women around you, but if the hospital is your best choice, than I recommend REALLY being knowledgeable and educated on birth. Study, study, study. Read Ina May Gaskins books, Study natural birth, watch Biz of being born and Preg. in America
JulieFilter 2 months ago 2
@iamapaininthebut (to continue)...The more educated and prepared you are to stand your ground and not let yourself fall into the traps of the intervention domino effect the more likely you will get the birth you want. Many women have successful drug-free, natural, and thrilling births in the hospital. You CAN do it!
JulieFilter 2 months ago 2
@iamapaininthebut Also, the blessings of the husband in the hospital is really helpful as a barrier for you to protect you from the hospital staff. You should not need to deal with politics. You need someone there who will fight for you and be your answering person, so that you can focus on the one thing you're supposed to be doing...laboring and birthing a baby. You need supportive women and people encouraging you that you CAN get through this contraction, and you CAN do this!
JulieFilter 2 months ago
@JulieFilter Protect you from the hospital staff?? Give me a break!! NO one forced you to go to a hospital. No one forces you to have an epideral. No one forces you to do ANYTHING. Heck, you could get up off the bed and walk out!! So if it was so bad, why didn't you leave? Because you are just being dramatic, thats why.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Well..society, husbands in many cases, parents, OB/GYN and many other people kind of tell you that hospital is the only normal option for birth. And if you don't do your own research, then you are trapped.. And if you trust hospital stuff and agree with everything they suggest-every woman would end up this way..especially with the 1st birth. Thank God there is much information and videos now to teach women and tell about the risks!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird Because of the privacy act, hospitals can't put on Youtube tube the amount of women that come into the emergency room after a home birth or when they are in trouble due to midwives who do not know what they are doing. If the public knew how many women come into the emerg. they would think twice about doing a home birth.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 That is so not true!Homebirths with midwives in US has the lowest death rate in healthy women (0.17%),compared to hospital births (0.72%)!How about countries with the lowest death rates like Singapore, Bermuda, Sweden, Japan, Hong Kong, Iceland, Netherlands and many more countries? What do they do to keep mortality rates low?-They have midwifery care as a primary care, birthing centers and home as primary places to give birth!US is the only country in the world where OB's are surgeons!!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 And even if the woman needs to be transferred to hospital after home birth, the outcome is practically 99% better than it would be if she would start at the hospital! I would like to propose a name "failed hospital birth" for 90% of hospital births where the damage is done to the baby, to the mother or to the breastfeeding relationships!!!

@Cranebird The women end up in hospital, needing stitches, they are hemmoraging, and even uteruses prolapsing. You have been brainwashed by the "midwife" industry. After seeing what comes through the emergency doors from "home births", I would NEVER do a home birth with a midwife.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 When I was going to have a home birth, I interviewed quite a few midwives in NYC, and they ALL knew how to do stitching, they ALL were allowed to use pitocin to stop hemorrhage! I think you don't know what you are talking about. Those factors which you wrote are NOT emergencies of home births! And all Certified Nurse Midwives bring all the necessary equipment. No one pushes you to have a home birth. But I was EXTREMELY HAPPY with my experience and all my friends who had home births!!!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 I think the most part of our society has been brain-washed about hospital births, about pain and use of drugs!Too many C-sections happen and too many interventions performed which lead to so many bad outcomes!!!1 in 2,500 women dies having C-section, instead only 1 in 10,000 die in vaginal delivery.. so..you might want to reconsider. How many damaged uteruses and no possibility of giving birth after hospital births?!The numbers are much greater!Home birth is safe! And don't mislead women!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird 1 in 2500 people die of c-sections?? LOL LOL you are really distorted. Get your facts straight before making an idiot of yourself all over youtube. Show me a link to where 1 in 2500 women die of c-sections! Show me a link where you see the numbers of women in the USA and Canada that can no longer have another baby after a hospital birth. Give me a break. You have the IQ of a tree frog.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 It is all over the internet that 1 in 2500 women die undergoing a C-section, but it comes from 'Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology' originally.
If you had a nice hospital delivery,I am happy for you!But millions of women and babies suffered and died! I would suggest you to read Hypnobirthing book,as it has the history of birth in it!And do not insult mothers who did a pain-free successful home births!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird Again, send a link. You are full of crap. And I did not insult any woman if they choose to go painfree. I said go to a hospital. You are the one insulting the 94% of women who DO choose to go to a hospital. And, that won't change, women are smart enough to realize a hospital birth is far more safer.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Just go to google and put in 1 in 2,500 woman dies in C-section.You will get lots of links. But as I told, the source is the research from Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.Hospital births at this point are really not safe!In hospital they don't let you drink or eat-it makes contractions really painful, but sometimes even make labour stop! Lithotomy position is the most dangerous position-because the weight of the baby is pressing on vena cava increasing the chance of fetal distress..
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 There are so many wrong things performed in the hospital! Even not counting the interventions.. For example cutting the blood cord right after birth-it's very dangerous procedure, because baby still received the oxygen through the blood which comes from placenta..and iron.. I think this leads to many respiratory complications in babies like asthma.. and vitamin K injection-can cause Leukemia in baby, Hepatitis B-why do they do that to babies??? Have you ever asked these questions?
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Go to: pregnancy.about.com/od/cesareansection/a/csectionrisks.htm
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Women who have cesareans suffer from more infertility than women who have vaginal births. This infertility is related directly to the physical effects of the surgery.Women who had c-sections are also less likely to want to become pregnant again.
The risks for ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, placenta previa, placenta accreta, and placental abruption are all higher for women who've had cesarean surgery. These conditions can endanger the life of both mother and baby.
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 continued: after Cesarean future babies are more at risk for preterm birth and have an increased risk of stillbirth. It is also possible that they may be at risk for more malformations or more nervous system damage while growing in a scarred uterus.
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Uterus prolapse is very rare and practically happens only if you have a vaginal delivery after Cesarean. But why do women decide to do a home birth after Cesarean?Because they're disappointed and even scared to go back to hospital..they don't want to have the same experience! So they try!And there're SO many happy stories! Many more than C-section after C-section..But seriously, I'm from Europe-all doctors are midwives there!Surgeons come into the picture rarely only when truly necessary!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird I have 2 boys, and both my experiences in hospital with fully licences OBY GN's were perfect. They were kind, they treated me with dignity and respect, and most of all, I had REAL help when I got into difficulty. I had my first with epideral and my second with nothing. I would NEVER do it without epideral again. Not that I plan on having more :)
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 I'm happy that you had quite good experience. But did you know that epidural increases maternal mortality rate 3x?And also that baby will be a opium addict later in life 4.7 times?Go google all the risks of epidural and you maybe will think twice before recommending it to anyone..I had a natural practically pain-free labour! And water birth was most amazing thing for me!And all women were thrilled by how the body works when stress-free and naturally knows everything—watch Martin's birth!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird Oh what ever! And people can die from taking asprin too :)
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 I have so many friends who did home births with their children and ALL of them were happy! Also when I interviewed midwives their transfer rate to the hospital was 1% of all births!!And the outcomes still were very good!No one ever died in their practice nor child, nor mother! And you seriously have to look at the numbers:Home birth 0.17% infant mortality rate (here are counted hospital transfers) or 0.72% infant mortality rate in hospital births..but for you birthing center is an option!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird And I have had so many friends do hospital births that were thrilled!! My hairdresser decided she would try home birth. She ended up in ambulance in the hospital. She came very close to bleeding to death. Her uterus prolapsed and the stupid LICENSED midwives let it happen. How much education does a midwife have? VERY little. How much education does an OBGYN have? About 12 yrs. of med. school, and 10's of thousands of deliveries under his belt.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 I have always heard the opposite stories..my 2 close friends almost died at the hospital from a blood loss..and how many times woman is alone in the room and only the nurse comes in rarely..the fear and tension rises and pain increases because of that..and OB/GYN sometimes doesn't show up at all..this one is very popular in NYC! did you watch the Business of being born or any other documentaries on how bad hospital birth situation over all is right now?
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird yes, I watched that documentry and it made me laugh. It is the brainwashing of midwives who created that. The fact remains that 94% of women in the US and Canada go to hosptial and WILL continue to go to hospital, because the are smart enough to know that it is FAR safer. Midwives can't and never will be able to compete with hospital births.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Well,we really've different opinions and my knowledge tells me that I will never give birth at hospital because of many different factors..and now many women transfer to home births and birthing centers and I really hope that this will continue! If hospital will change their policy about eating, drinking, moving freely and following natural process of birth, trying to avoid all interventions and helping women to give birth naturally..when this will happen maybe I'll think differently!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Midwife-CNM has 8 years of education!Yes,OB/GYN has 12 yrs.,but he is learning only how to treat sick women. Many OB's have never seen a natural birth! Many have 100% C-section rate! Many perform stupid episiotomy every time, even when baby is 6 lbs!Even many nurses in the hospital tell that they've NEVER seen a truly natural birth without any interventions!-Because doctors are getting paid for every single intervention they do!Where are we heading?.I guess to hell!but no,I'm not with you!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird Again, 94% of women in the USA and Canada go to hospitals to deliver their babies so they have a much SAFER deliver. 94% of women will CONTINUE to go to hospital to deliver their babies, because they want a choice of epideral or not. Are you insulting 94% of women? I think this conversation has run it's course, it is a shame you are brainwashed by midwives who want MONEY. They are NOT free, honey. They charge huge amounts of money.
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Honey, most insurances in most states nowadays pay midwives in full! Mine did! But what really is very important-they have one cost no matter what! OB/GYN receive more for every intervention..so it's good money-wise for them to perform as many interventions as possible! And for Cesarean they receive the biggest amount!-that's why it's so popular!I'm not insulting any mother of her choice. But I think every woman should read the risks of all interventions before having a hospital birth!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird You have not listened to a word I said. I have 2 boys and both were born in hospital. I had WONDERFUL experiences, and neither the doctors or nurses pushed "interventions". I demanded the epideral. I demaned it! I also ate, drank, paced the halls, sat, stood, and did whatever I wanted. Do NOT try to say the staff at hospitals do not let you do what you want. They are helpful, and you are in the SAFEST hands..
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Ok, why then so many women tell exact opposite? Even my close friends tell that they had terrible hospital experiences? Why the doctors do not inform mothers well about the risks of interventions, why do they give routinely drugs like pitocin after birth even if the mother is not hemorrhaging? Why do they clamp the chord too early? Why do they do so many things unnaturally? And the last fact-hospital births have highest infant and maternal rates in the world! Not safe hands at all..
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 After seeing what comes through the back halls from labor/ triage from hospital birth compared to what comes through the front door to ER from homebirth... I'm terrified to do a hospital birth. Clearly your personal choice is the hospital, but ours is homebirth. And we are choosing to let women know their options. There are and always will be risks to both, my personal findings in studies and what I have witnessed assures me hospital births risks outway the benifits... For you it's dif

kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 just stop scaring women about home births! You've never experienced it! So you have no idea how wonderful it is! When my mother witnessed it, she was so happy, but as well sad that millions of women suffer so much..and don't know this WONDERFUL option!!!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Uhm, I never emailed you sunshine. If you are being serious that you did get an email from me, I apologize, cuz my email was hacked for awhile, so if the email has a link, plz don't open it. And no, I won't be asking for the epidural... I've done the research and like I said, it isn't for me... you shouldn't judge others so harshly. It is a very personal choice and not thank god I'm choosing hospital birth, I know it's all wrong for me.
iamapaininthebut 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Quite simply, a lot of women get the line "it's better for the baby" when it may not be... so they end up doing everything the hospital staff says and it is not in the best interest of mama or baby. There are many studies to show a lot of the hospital practices are unnecessary and dangerous. Since the majority of women started doing births in hospitals, the maternal death rate has significantly increased while there has been no noticeable improvement to the neonatal death rate.
iamapaininthebut 1 month ago
@kismutt1 And she's not being dramatic. This was her first birth, she did walk out, for her next baby she just said no. I am choosing a hospital birth because I have zero family for thousands of miles due to Military and my husband may still be over seas. And I have been told by 90% of the women that this hospital lies and says things are regulation and tries for C-section on almost every birth. They've talked to me about scheduling one twice because my baby "might be big". So yes I'm scared

But that is a really sweet offer <3 Thank you :-)
iamapaininthebut 1 month ago
@iamapaininthebut Yes, I understand. You need even more support if you are going for the hospital birth! They allow a doula and up to 2 friends/relatives in hospital birth rooms! I flew to Argentina when I was 7 months pregnant to support my friend for her hospital birth! :) Just email me, let's talk about it, but not here! I'm very calm person and I know exactly what you need to have the best experience!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@iamapaininthebut If hospitals were sooooo bad, you wouldn't be going to a hospital! But, you know the truth, that it is the safest way to do it!! You are being a hypocrite bashing hospital births, when you yourself are going to a hospital! Good choice! Husband or no husband, if you felt that strongly about a home birth you wouldn't go to a hospital. Again, don't be afraid to ask for an epideral! No shame in that!
kismutt1 1 month ago
@kismutt1 Again, you have not paid attention to my other posts... I couldn't afford the home birth. I am not a midwife, nor do I have that knowledge. And please, we get that you disagree, you have rudely made it known over and over, now leave us alone. We are entitled to our own opinions. Oh and FYI, I found funding... so I am doing a homebirth. I will let you know when my baby boy is safely in my arms and we have no negative side effects of the chemicals you insist on pumping into your body.
iamapaininthebut 1 month ago
@iamapaininthebut You do not need naysayers, or people whispering into your ear that things would be better with an epidural, drugs, induction, c-section...whatever. And, the more studied you are in the facts and truth, the more you will be flowing in that truth when the mental games begin, which will happen. Plan to waiver...so plan to need people walking with you through it. I would really like to hear how everything goes when you do give birth! You CAN do this! Congratulations =0)
JulieFilter 2 months ago
@JulieFilter I just got all teary eyed, lol, may be the horomones. The more research I do, the more I know I don't want a hospital birth. I am doing it for this one so for the next birth hubby can experience our homebirth. I will let you know how hospital birth goes. Thank you for the encouragement, I needed it!
iamapaininthebut 2 months ago
@iamapaininthebut How far are you?I transferred to midwives and homebirth when I was 8.5 months pregnant! The thing is that water birth is the best option!+Hypnobirthing (I read this book in 2 days and was absolutely amazed!!)And I did water birth and it was fantastic!you should try to arrange water birth!(but don't go in a hot tub/shower during the 1st stage-it can slow labor or even stop it) for birth water does amazing things!!And it's so natural for baby to go from water into water!
Cranebird 1 month ago
@Cranebird 7.5 months, but it's just not an option this birth. Due to money and ins won't cover it, plus hubby might not be home for it. I would love a water birth at home, but it's jst not in the cards. I'm thinking of starting to advocate having my ins cover birthing centers at the very least... So idk, we'll see. I feel like I have a strong enough will to say no in the hospital. I will never understand why society spends so many years saying say no to drugs then for this says "get the drugs"

You poor thing! I don't have any children yet, but my husband and I hope to have our first somewhere next year. I felt so sorry for you, especially because they try to rush things (never rush nature!!) and don't even let you hold your baby right after birth.
I chose for not liking the video. Not because of the nature or quality, but because of the cruelty of the hospital staff.

giantsfan562001 3 months ago
@giantsfan562001 While checking the cervix isn't always necessary, after an epidural they should be extremely attentive cuz mama can be slightly (or it sounds like here, very) disoriented. I am glad both of them were ok... I'd be worried about delivery in that hospital and I hope mama got checked after, that shaking isn't good at anytime during delivery!

tayboox33 3 weeks ago

2009janka 1 year ago

You should try not going to the hospital at all, that guarantees no "intervention."
corndosan 1 year ago

TheLadyShred 1 year ago
@TheLadyShred Being informed is the best thing you can do to get the birth you want. I was not informed beforehand for this birth. Now, I'm very comfortable with home births. I know not every1 feels comfortable with a home birth, so it's critical to feel comfortable where u birth, and to be knowledgeable about what you want, why you want it, and what you will not stand for during labor. I choose home births since I am low risk and do not want to be pestered. To each his own though. God bless!
JulieFilter 1 year ago

WPUpioneer 1 year ago
@TheLadyShred You don't have to go to an OB to get comprehensive prenatal care!!! Homebirth midwives can give you all the care you need, with referrals to get more technological help if needed. They can listen to your baby, feel baby's position, make sure they are growing, and check up on you as well. Don't go to the OB if you want a homebirth - start the prenatal relationship with a midwife now!

adnamateka01 1 year ago
I would reccomend a birthing centre, they are great about what is best and natural for mum, baby and what you body is telling you.

dont feel bad when i went i was 4 cm after 1 hour then they told me i HAD to have a epidural or go home. i didnt want it but forced. i had all sorts of drugs i didnt want because the epidural stopped my labor completely. it was 16 hours later when i gave birth then they gave me something for pain which i wasnt told about. i was allergic. i passed out when i finally came to. i was allowed to hold her after 2 more hours. so not all experiences are good and more often then not they are all bad.

That is so great! I wish that every hospital worked like that! =0) Way to go, mama.

I'm so sorry this happened to you mama.
Don't listen to the negative people, they are oblivious. Warm blessings!

Thank you for sharing this. I agree with you completely. Yes, we do have options at a hospital but a laboring woman is in no condition to argue and stand her ground. Especially when most hospital interventions are completely fear based. Thanks so much.

i am confused, demerol is a pain med and usually slows labor down.
elwanda86 2 years ago
They LIED to her! That makes me so angry. What a horrid hospital and horrid staff!! They seem to have NO concept on what childbirth is suppose to be like and what will work. Jerks! I feel for this couple. Never should have happened this way.
HeartOnMySleeve77 2 years ago
Thank you so much for posting both your hospital & home births. My heart tells me I want a home birth for my first child. My head keeps telling me a hospital birth will hold less uncertainty -- but if that means intervention at the first opportunity, I'd rather stay home. A woman in the midst of labour is not in any position to refuse unnecessary intervention. A clear head & an understanding of natural, normal birth is required for that -- & for that I trust midwives over obstetricians.
kiminaustralia 2 years ago
not trying to play devils advocate or anything, but even in a hospital you always have the options to refuse any medication or procedures. im an OB nurse and have been for a few years now. im not saying everything they did was correct or even necessary...but you do have options and if you really take a stand for what you want, no one else can argue with you.
thestarsshine89 2 years ago
I totally agree with you, but not many people are able to "hold their ground" when they're asked over and over again "are you sure you don't want drugs?" when they're in the middle of intense active labor? That is when support for decisions made during lucid thinking is needed. I KNOW that I did NOT know enough at that time to hold my ground, which is not the truth now. It's my experience that it's always better to not HAVE to take a stand, but just make the statement early on and that's that
JulieFilter 2 years ago
20 min. is horrible to have to wait to hold your baby, try 2hrs 10min. that's how long they made me wait to hold my firstborn. after an unnnecessary c-section they told me I couldn't hold her or see her because her temp was at 94.6 and she had to stay in the nursery warming bed until it was normal. Thank god i found the only place in my state that allows VBAC to deliver my 2nd child and best of all I had a midwife, who says the best way to get a baby's temp up is to be next to momma!
jnjnich4 2 years ago
I couldn't agree more! That's such a shame that you had to wait 2 plus hrs. A friend of mine had a C-section and did not see her son for 4 hrs! And we wonder why parents are detached from their children. It's baffling.
JulieFilter 2 years ago
omg, that actually made me cry. I can't beleive they even washed your baby before letting you hold her. You got ther all wrapped up, couldn't even see all of her. I would have wanted to take every bit of her in at once, even her tiny fingers and toes. I was thinking of studying to be a midwife. I will definatly make sure I do a better job than that, even if it is in a hospital, I can't beleive they didn't respect your wishes.

omg wtf are they doing to your baby!? im so sorry you had to go through that :(

Thank you for showing this video. I am sorry that you went through this. I am so happy that you made the right move to not go through that ever again. You have been blessed with a 2 great babies, and a supportive family. You are educating many people. Please post more videos
Always

I wouldn't have another hospital birth if mine had been that bad either. Congrats on two beautiful babies (or did I hear it's 3 now?) and for taking charge of your body!!
I'd love to see the video with no music though, I couldn't hear what you were saying and that's often the best fun during labor
LChin1978 3 years ago
Julie, thank you so much for posting this. I am due with my 2nd and really want to have a home birth, but my husband isn't comfortable with it. My dr. is very much a non-interventionist and I just pray at the time of birth that she doesn't change her mind. I have given my husband strict instructions to make our wishes for no pain meds or pitocin clear to the hospital.
Anyway, thank you again for posting! All moms and dads to be need to see this!

I am very glad that it has helped you be prepared for the birth of your second. I wish you the best!

It is not fair.
sjdean972 3 years ago
You're right, it's not fair. It's also not fair that your birth experience was so stressful that you continue, after 30 plus years, to suffer from it. It angers me to no end when people revert to the 'ole "at least you had a healthy baby." Yes, I am glad I had a healthy baby, but at what expense? I don't care whether or not people choose hospital births. I don't care if people get epidurals. I ONLY care that they know the full weight of their decisions when they are made! I did not. Most do not.
JulieFilter 3 years ago
What I fear most is the doctors that lie to you, telling you what you want to hear. Then they get you in there and tell you that the baby is in distress. A c-section is the only thing that will save the baby. These poor women have no choice but to consent. Then they think this GOD of a doctor saved their life, and think any other choice but hospital birth is insane.
sjdean972 3 years ago
I commented on the other video, but this is exactly what happened to a friend of mine. Her doctor told her that the baby's cord was too close to her face and if she delivered like that it would suffocate the baby, which would then die or have brain damage! She freaked out because she thought her baby was on death's door. The staff did nothing to reassure her and allowed her to believe that. Obviously she was talked into a c-section. Oh, and the baby never did show signs of stress during labor.

Thank you for posting this video!I am 31 and expecting my first i still want to do the hospital but i dont like surprises i want to be prepared for anything!I am a student of psychology and live not to far from Bradley U. did you have any post part em depression?
kimanim77 3 years ago
Not full blown, but I mentioned having a difficult time accepting Lily as my baby. It was not conscious but I felt detached from her for probably a month or so. Eventually, thanks to nursing I would say, that bond was established, but it took much longer than I would have liked. I did not have that reaction at all with my second, or third, babies, both born at home.
JulieFilter 3 years ago
The hospital tells you, "You're the one that came to us, now let us do our job!". When in reality you hired them so that you could have more help, not to give them a job.
