  • this is beautiful and the run threw of different stages was really sweet.

  • That is BADASS! love the cut out shape and the natural beauty of the wood.

  • Bad freakin' ass

  • I love your work

  • can you do a tuttorial on neckthroughs? im planing on starting one...

PS is marantie and jara good for guitars?

  • Sorry, haven't got the time to put something together like that...check out Project Guitar.com...I'm sure it'll be covered in there somewhere. You'll find info about wood there too.

  • do you make custom guitars like this to order? if so, i'm extremely interested.

  • I do, send me a pm.

  • looks like a rickenbacker

  • how did you manage to get the cavity cover grain to match the body? great quality piece btw

  • The cover is cut out in the early stages, before all the pieces of the body wings are glued up.

  • amazing really

  • Congratulations on a stunning piece of work!

Fwiw, I like those f-holes just the way they are.

  • Cheers!!

  • nice work, How much does it weigh?

  • From memory, about 3 kg (6.5 lb)

  • I agreee that the F-holes are a bit lost. They are a great, unique shape. You might try setting them off from underneath. Finish the inside with the same lacquer or oil, or whatever and maybe a bit darker dye. Some dark binding might be nice or even some stringing and the edge. Nice job though. a beautiful piece.

  • Your laminate work is fantastic, I build guitars too and what you are doing is a very fine art and requires tons of patience and time.

The only thing I would criticize is that the "F" holes need to be set of a bit more.

    Maybe some binding?

I know how money matters are to a builder and I'm sure you know that gold hardware and cream pickups would top it it off.

    Beautiful work.

    JR

  • Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Your right about a bit of binding in the "F" holes! Perhaps some Purple Heart?

The last one of these I did has a full book matched top and back...still with the laminated neck through design....it looks a little less busy on the top.

The gold and cream combo does look good too.

  • @dgh335 You do great work, it has inspired me to be a little more crafty.

Being in the guitar biz is tough.

If your name isn't Fender or Gibson or Paul Reed Smith then you have a hard time selling. But your pieces are so over the top that you should have no problem selling.

    Good luck with your work!

    JR

  • @dgh335 Great work. On my f holes I usually use turquoise. Check out my custom! I will be putting a vid of my new hollow body up in a month or two

  • Wow, that is one stunning guitar!

  • do you sell them?

  • Yes, but only commissioned custom builds....

  • Where did you get the wood you used to build it? I can't find any place that has wood long enough for a neck through guitar, online or locally. Can you help me out?

  • I source wood locally as well as importing it from the States. and Canada.

    Google

  • Truely a beautiful piece of work.

  • amazing....

how many cost to build guitar?

  • Beautiful work! I really like the headstock/upper neck laminations and contouring. Where do you get your wood from? And what woods are you using in that guitar? Is that epoxy? Congratulations for having such a lovely and noble skill. My guitars are a hobby so far. I'd love to step up my game and start selling. Your work is truly inspirational. Good luck.

  • Thank you for such a fine comment...

The Volute area on the back of the Headstock is also one of my favourite areas on the Guitar.

Woods are sourced locally, and imported....always looking for nice wood!

Australian Rose Mahogany, Purple Heart and figured Maple.

Most of the laminations were with epoxy, though I do use other glues too.... depends what your gluing.

  • BRAVO good sir!

  • WOW

  • that guitar looks amazing. do you do this for your living?

  • Just part time.....

  • @dgh335 What tools did you use to shape the neck heel? Was it fun at all? I'm doing a neckthrough V and really want to do something that gets me a lot of access. Yeah I'm up at 4 in the morning stressing on my first build, haha.

  • lol isnt the E string way to thick? 4:22

  • At least you didn't buy the neck. And I know the book you used for the neck shaping and headstock. All very cool

  • wow nice guitar!

how much would it cost, if you ever sell it?

  • $3500 to build another one, same woods and hardware as this one. Price includes custom flight case.

  • Sweet guitar. I didn't realize there were so many steps.

  • Hi, nice guitar!! Backing music track has very cool guitar solo sound!! Is it played with same guitar? What effect you used ?

  • Thanks.

Very similar guitar ( DG6 ) , used on the rhythm track ...

Lead played on an old Strat, by a Lefty friend.

Can't remember settings of effects... too long ago!

  • WOW ------------------drulling out of mouth

  • song name?

  • hay blake its casey u play guitar?

  • Solistarious....

There's a link in the subscription box for a free download.

  • awesome man

  • Absolutely gorgeous!! Does the semi hollow really add to the acoustics ? Or is that mainly determined by the wood and pickups?

  • all of the above. it all honestly has a factor in the tone.

  • you definitely can tell you know what you are doing. I am just starting out and this looks very professional

  • for me the best combination of three woods is maple top walnut center and mahogany back.

  • FIrst, BEAUTIFUL guitar! I see your using a tune-o-matic style bridge. With the neck-thu design, did you have to build in any neck-angle? or is it basically all flat? (aside from the fret board hight) How's the action?

  • Thanks....

The neck is angled to the body by 3.5 degrees from the end of the fingerboard.

The action is set very low.

  • Very beautiful instrument- I want to build one like this! 5/5

  • do the layers help with sustain or its a matter of esthetics?

  • The combination of different woods is definitely about aesthetics, but they will also contribute to the tone and sustain as well.....It's a subjective thing.

  • good to know - thank you

  • do they do the layers for another reason then asthetics or does it give more sutain?

  • You're video helped me build my first guitar. Check out my videos to see the results. I was hesitant to make one until I saw this, very inspirational. Thank You and well done.

  • I've watched a crapload of videos on guitar construction, but this one was an excersise in beauty. VERY NICE WORK!!

  • ummmmm hi again iv got a very important question im makeing mine and iv just got the neck redy and i dont know how far the brige and tail if from the 12 fret you know to get the right guitar sound have a look at part 1# of my guitar and tell me what i sould do p.s my neck is 24 fret thank you

  • the distance from the nut untill the 12th frett should be equal the distance from 12th frett till bridge. you the distances will be different you can throw your guitar into the garbage.

  • wow! now that is very impressive

  • that looks amazing.... well done!

  • Nice job! Is there a special technique to design the resonating holes or I can make'em on my own??

  • Nice work !

I found this vid doing a true oil search.

Is this a true oil finish?

If so would it dampen the sound of an acoustic? Thnx for any info!

    What a work of art.

  • damn i want irt

  • So beautiful...

  • i love quilted maple, my next custom guitar gonna have it green on top of mahogany wood......hey people what song is this?

  • I only play with solid bodies, but that seems pretty kickass! How much money did it take to make all that compared to what would normally be paid? (if you dont know, at least tell me home much money it cost haha)

  • He's got a lot of expensive tonewoods there, so it probably cost quite a bit. Still a lot less than having it done custom.

I found this guy on EBay that does custom neck-thru necks at great prices, though. Seller is orange7m

  • really nice job! i admire it

    congratulations

  • how did you level the neck after you glued the body on?

  • I have a special router jig that holds the Guitar firm, and at any required angle relevant to the neck or body.

  • That is truly a piece of art, some techniques I never even thought about, check out my homemade guitar made out of lacewood and padauk wood!

  • Well done for a first attempt, I'm sure you'll enjoy building your second.

  • Excellent woodworking, and truly awesome design work. Thanks for sharing the process. i do think you are ready to start selling these things, and you should be able to ask whatever you like. A nice koa piece with cocobolo would be wicked!

  • Thank you for such a great comment.

Yes...Koa and Cocobolo...very nice. Is this what your Acoustic is made from?

  • Yep. I am building several all Koa electric guitars as we speak. The first two are start bodies, but with Koa it will sound more les paulish, so pickup selection will be important. I just took delivery of two prebuilt very nice koa bodies and neck and will assemble them, and as soon as my neck surgery is over, (friday) watch for new neck throughs. I had the pleasure of knowing the great man Bernie Chavez Rico, and am looking to do a series of truly great, but limited axes. Like his, and yours!

  • no way your saying if i gave you 3500 us dollars i could get a guitar of that quality? thats insane your amazing absolutley beautiful guitar you just made

  • what kind of wood is that? quilted maple?

  • Yes, Quilted Maple.

The other woods are Purple Heart and Australian Rose Mahogany.

  • Holy tittyfucking christ.

  • oh my god shes beautiful

  • Is the neck angled any?

    If so, by what degree?

  • Yes, the neck is angled to the body by 3.5 degrees from the end of the finger board.

  • WOW thats so pretty.....gimme that!!!

  • WOW!!!

  • you are a master of your craft.

  • Thats fucking sexy.

  • my god shes prutty

  • Stunning.........

  • One of the top rated on Youtube. I give it 11/10. WOW

  • It's just so beautiful... I'm about to build one too, but I can't find any maple :( not curly but ANY... is ash good for necks? If it is I gues I'm gonna put the look at a lower level...

    Once again- amazing job ;)

  • that thing is so sick

  • What a beaut. Congratulations mate

    :-)

  • This guitar is beautiful

  • I want to make a solid body with a through neck. The neck will have 7 laminations. It is also going to be thicker because I have large hands and I think it would be easier for me to play do i still need a truss rod.

  • Yes, you should include an adjustable Truss Rod.

  • Coming from a fellow luthier - this is one of the best guitars on youtube! I am a huge fan of neck throughs! Some of my favorite parts are the thin laminations on the headstock and body and the cover on the back made from the same piece of wood. Is the finish lacquer?

  • Absolutely amazing!

    :)

I love to see things like this, they are inspiring, awe inspiring.

    Thank you for sharing. :)

  • Incredible, this is one of a kind.

    Great skills and huge talent.

I want to build a guitar too, and i have a cuestion.

¿does this kind of neck through guitar have a truss rod inside?

    I really apreciate your answer.

  • Yes, it has a 2 way adjustable Truss Rod.

  • Yeah, a few people seem to have had this idea...nothing is impossible, I'm open to all ideas.

  • Beautiful guitar!!! I thought of that idea daydreaming. a neck thru hollowbody. Brilliant.

Just wondering if you are absolutely committed to that shape and dimensions. Would love to have one built... in a different shape and lil thicker. You're a true craftsman!

  • what was the song, i didnt see it posted in the description or anything but what is the name of it, it sounds awesome

  • The Track is called Solistarious, an original.

  • oh true well it sounds good

  • hey beautiful guitar man what kind of glue did you use for the body ?

  • I used a high quality Epoxy Resin.

  • wow great job

  • man thats nice how much did it cost to build?

  • About $500 in materials, and my time.

  • stunning, nice build!!!

  • you know what? 4:31-4:32 where two beautiful seconds.

but, i think the guitar would look better with a different 12th-fret inlay. the cleft symbol is kinda corny... unless its your company symbol

  • i may want to make a guitar someday... is it plausible that someone new to guitar making (but with some woodworking experience) could make an ok es335 style hollowbody?

  • If you have the desire bad enough to build your own Guitar, and you also have some wood working skills, it's totally plausible that you could build an ES335, or anything else for that matter!

  • butifal guitar awsome look one Qestun was it hard wiring it?

  • No. Electronics appear / seem a lot more complex than than they really are.

  • ohh fuck this guitar IS SOOOOO BEUTIFUL!

  • i luv how this guy actually replies baq 2 u ^^

  • nice but i mainly use purpleheart for my necks

  • that looks great!!! but dude the video would have been better if you played it at the end!!

  • Yeah I know!

  • Very Impressive...While Im in the building process of my first guitar I now understand the difficulties...Very Nice...

  • That is one nice guitar, my friend. 2 questions though. How's the balance on your knee? Is the sustain good? I read that if you glue pieces together and their grains don't match, it hurts sustain.

    Crazy-awesome.

  • It sits really well on your knee, as well as being very comfortable and light when standing.

It has as good, in fact better, sustain than my old SG, and my mates Les Paul!

Don't believe everything you read. The lamination of different woods together will give you a much stronger piece of wood as compared to a similar size unlaminated piece.

Laminating different Tone Woods together is often done for added strength and optimum tone, and as such it is a good idea to think about grain orientation.

  • That is one beautiful guitar.

  • a bet that thing sounds amazing

  • Marvelous

  • Very impressive my good man. I always love seeing fellow luthiers crafting exquisite works of art out of raw timber. Keep up the good work.

  • Great looking guitar!

I plan on doing one of a similar construction method.

  • wow. just....wow.

  • Are you making the music in this video? Wow, very sweet through neck guitar, and I like this psychadelic guitar music. Feels like a good buzz.

  • that's

so cool, I'm building a neck through bass at the moment I'll tape it, so you can see it

  • Damn, that's a beautiful guitar. How much did it cost to make it?

  • It cost about 100 hours of my time, plus materials!

  • HahaxD

and what about the materials? and maybe the equipment if you can tell me. It would be apreciated.

  • Ok, the tone woods and all hardware would have come to between 5 and 6 hundred Australian dollars

  • That's a lot but by looking at the final product it looks like it was worth the money, time and effort.

  • dang that's a beast! it's awesome dude, keep it comin'! :)

  • yo that think is a beaut

  • NICE!

  • Looks nice, but how does it sound?

  • It sounds as good as it looks!...I hope to put up a clip soon, demonstrating its range of tone etc through a good clean amp.

  • thats not a gitarr. thats porn

  • GUITAR

  • wow....beautiful, impressive, astounding, elegant, incredible, flawless, breathtaking and magnificent don't even begin to sum that piece of craftsmanship up. no words for it. mine would be great job. 10/5.

  • is that made of Walnut, Maple, Cherry, and Purple Heart?... if so very nice pick. Great work

  • beautiful wood!

reminds me of a hippy sandwich! :-)

  • Thanks,I take that as a reference to Alembic...who I admire!

  • you got it!

I got me an 84 Distillate bass - zebrawood top, cherrywood back.

    You do excellent work!

  • ahhhh dude i love the 12 fret treble cleft inlay!

  • What's this song?

  • It's an original called Solistarious.

  • nice guitar

  • Hi Doug, wow mate that is amazing what you have made! How long did it take you to make this beauty?

  • Wow, this lady really looks fantastic :O And the sound reminds me a bit of Satriani's guitar. A bit ;)

  • such a fucking nice guitar. how long did that shit take to make?

  • That was amazing! So beautiful! I hope it goes to a careful owner and is played often, and played well.

  • that is fucking beautiful.

  • wood

  • so cool i like the sound so i give u 5ratings then suB? check my page if u want!!!

  • Yes, nice job, beautiful

  • thats a right beauty =D

    Well Done!
