I agree that so many churches only sing contemporary now...but in Georgia...this is one preacher who still sings these hymns. I love singing old hymns...really brings the spirit....
I personally feel to many churches have grasped to whole contemporary christian gospel songs, and it's up the body of the church to go back to the Doctor Watts devotionals songs, and traditional hymns. It's the youth who are lacking the tradition.
Hello. If it's not any trouble, could please post the video of Union Baptist Hymn Choir in 1988 at Center Baptist. Mr. Isom was leading "When I'm Gone". I would love to see him and my great-grandmother, the late Mrs. Mattie Jackson.
I would like to encourage the owner of this wonderful video to enable ratings so we can show how much we appreciate this music and to "say amen" to the positive comments with a nice "thumbs up."
Worship from the SOUL !!!! Directly from within their spirits, to truly worship the one and only Jesus Christ...No need for fancy instruments, or sounds from high tech electrical pieces...Just PURE, honest, True Worshippers sound waves that definitely the Heavens Receive it with open ears!!!
What i love about this is the fact that its pure real worship....its natural music from the soul, not any excessive drums, keyboards, organs , guitars etc... Raw praise using the voice God gave and clapping hands ...I love it :) Gimme that old time religion....
This is what church music should be like not this money driven hip hop deceptive cr...p that we have been led to believe is Gospel Music. Man Judges the outward appearance but God; THE HEART meaning, these people is not trying to compete for video time on BET nor record sales so it it pure and from the heart. But what we see today as good as it sounds and as accepted as it has become the real motive is MONEY read all scriptures concerning money & all it's evils
This is wonderful! It is from a different tradition than mine, but it is real and authentic.
Equally encouraging is the general tone of the comments here. I am running into this a lot. People are starting to see through the dollar-driven canned music industry that we wave in front of God's face and dare to call it worship.
I prefer this 100% compared to this contemporary stuff like Kirk Franklin, Tye Tribbett, Fred Hammond, etc! With thiscontemporary stuff I can't tell if I am listening to gospel music or hip hop!
When I went to visit my grandparents in vicksburg,ms at Porters chapel missionary baptist church Everytime they have sunday service,or bible study they do it like this
This is what I was raised on, and I miss it so much. We don't sing songs like this in the church my family attends now. I will come back as often as possible to visit this site. Thank you for making this available to everyone. Please continue to be Blessed! By the way, this is my Uncle Ron singing this song, a man truly filled with the Holy Spirit.
I think that it's to us to reintroduce the old gospel tunes and spirituals to the younger generation. A lot of people in the US don't even know the fundamentals of the Christian faith anymore. All they know now is entertainment...even in the mega churches.
God is good, just walked in from dinner with 71 yr old aunt, and I asked her what church she liked best "same God, I love all of them".
I was born in 1954 Pasadena CA (we lived in certain areas, prejudice), my grandma had a house and these people in this video are like the ones that raised me, took care of me, loved me and taught me about God. Oh, by the way I am Mex/Native American, but I have no hate. Love this song and all of you, peace Go With God!
It's more regional and demominational. The region being central North and South Carolina. This format once grew up the US East Coast all the to Philadelphia, but now only remains in DC and Baltimore (outside of NC/SC).
In a day that witnesses Black Gospel music as an industry, it is good to see some Baptist churches holding on to the old tradition. There is nothing wrong with tradition, if it is biblical. This song has deep theological elements in it: it is an urgent call for grace to perservere in the Christian life; it is eschatological looking forward to the resurrection of the dead and entrance into glory; and it is recognition of the inherent weakness even of a true Christian.
In my search to find a opening prayer to our Kicking and Knocking Gullah ( GEECHEE )martial art . I remembered my blind mother singing this song to get the spirit flowing in the church .
I love this music, its part of my heritage and I prefer it over todays conventional gospel music even though I am in my 20's...This music is heartfelt, very spiritual and sends chills through my soul when I hear it...There is something very mystic about this music that no one can deny no matter what age...please keep posting and help keep this music alive in our community
When I was in Divinty School at Duke University, Sir. Walter Mack introduced me to this type of singing and I fell in love with it. Thanks for posting it.
Also, The Middlebrook Family of High Point, North Carolina shared this rich type of music with me. I will be forever indebted to these great people.
This a REAL AUTHENTIC Baptist church. This is a real testamant to our African-American Culture that should be respected and cheriched by every individual of African-American descent.
I couldn't get with this at frist, but they started getting into it and I found myself rocking with them, Weak but I'm willing in the army, needless to say I got happy. Grace and Peace
It is very interesting for me to notice that it seems like there is no director, nevertheless there is no chaos. It seems like everybody knows very well what to do. Great
I'm sorry, is this a funeral?
