In the developed world, nearly half of all landfills are made up of food. Look it up yourself. With such a massive level of food waste, why are companies like Monsanto turning to GMO products? For profit. If they cared about feeding the world, they'd be teaching people to waste less. These are the same people who put their buddies in the US congress to oppose food safety standards
I am sick of people justifying the mass production of food and genetical modification by saying that is necessary in order to feed the world. This wasnt created as the solution to overpopulation, but is actually part of the cause. The need for corporations to increase profits has gone to the extremes of affecting population, and now people are dependent on it to the point of no return
i dont think there would bea problem feeding everyone on non GMO food if we werent using all of the land and resources for livestock and factory farming. vegetables by themselves yield much much more food per acre than animals do. gmo or not
I have two very unrelated things to say about your video.
1. You have exactly 1/2 likes, and 1/2 dislikes. This Pleases me.
2.Canada flag.
Now I have one thing to say that IS related to your video: If the bugs won't eat it, neither will I. I don't care what you eat, but I trust the judgment of insects .
the reason I eat organic food is because I actually find there's a difference in organic and genetically modified stuff sprayed in pesticides. I'm a vegetarian for a completely different reason that I like organic fruit/vegetables.
this is nonsense - there has been more than enough to feed the world since the mid 80s We don't feed the starving because if we did we would be poor because they could compete with us. Get over it and just be glad you happened to be in one of the countries on top - for now. GM is politically and ecologically a disaster - the last thing this planet needs is more people.
Obviously there is a need to produce enough food to feed the people. But the truth here is that our bodies aren't physically equipped to process food that has been genetically modified. Just go read about some the of the negative health effects of eating genetically modified foods. Also, developed countries produce a large surplus of food(in the interest of capital, not social welfare), and this surplus would not be affected if all of our foods were organically produced.
A nutritionally adequate vegan diet needs only a tenth of the photosynthetic production. Suck on an organic lolly-pop and watch a video about the terminator seeds of Monsanto.
Interestingly enough, the harvest of organic matter means the death of a fuckload of animals, since a field of grain is home to many mice and rabbits. you silly vegetarians. I guess eating all of the plants on the earth, which are our only source of oxygen, will somehow save the planet.
@murphyhurtme We are not eating the rainforest, nor the plankton or cyanobacterias in the oceans which together is the largest contributer of oxygen. An organic lifestyle aimes to preserve theese things, while the conventional one is destroying them.
@murphyhurtme We are not eating the rainforests, nor the plankton or cyanobacteria in the oceans, which together is the largest contributer of oxygen. An organic lifestyle aimes to preserve these things, while the conventional one is destroying them.
@murphyhurtme We are not eating the rainforests, nor the plankton or cyanobacteria in the oceans, which together is the largest contributer of oxygen. An organic lifestyle aimes to preserve these things, while the conventional one is destroying them.
Although being a veggie is generally thought to be good for you, for men eating nothing but soya (a shitty alternative for most vegetarian and vegan fags) can increase the risk of losing one's meat. Soya contains a chemical known as genistein which is very similar to oestrogen, a major female hormone. As any good transexual knows, men who receive female hormones begin to take on female traits such as titties, genital bleeding (usually after his dick falls off), and eventually, a mangina.
The reason why the rest of the world is hungry is because of dictators and commies they try to "ration" everything if every country was democratic and old school american style capitalist shit wouldnt be that way and we could end world hunger and maybe even have world peace!!!
Using GMO's to feed the hungry is just another bandaid, a temporary solution. We never seem to care about WHY things don't work, or ever try to fix the REAL problems, like pollution contributed poor water and soil conditions? I wonder what temporary solutions will we have to come up with when GMO's become the problem? When everyone starts becoming even sicker, when GMO's and the terminator gene find their way into everything and there is no natural food left, who will be hungry then?
I believe, that it takes more land to raise feed for animals to be slaughtered than it would to use the land to feed people with the corn or grain products used as animal feed. So, instead of using more GMO products how about lowering our consumption of meat and eating more grains?? Just a thought
Don't listen to what some of these posters are saying.
1. Your point is valid, and factual. None of it is based on opinion, but more your opinion is based on fact.
2. You made your point in a very logical, and practical way, rather than just saying you are right and others are wrong cause you say so, like some of these idiots that are commenting.
3. I don't see why your age has anything to do with if your point is valid. You are very well spoken regardless of your age.
This type of fool is one of the major reasons why it's an embarrassment to be called a human being these days. Take a teenage spoiled brat with a low IQ and watch him spout inane drivel with the conviction of an inquisitor dog.
I only protest against animals treated bad in circus and drug testing of animals and that's pretty much it. I don't protest against eating of animals because that is something people believe in.
The thing I don't like about GMO food is this. If scientist produce a GMO grain that's toxic to an insect, what the hell is it going to do to us in the long run? That craps going to send us all to an early grave, starving problem solved then. You can bet that the rich people in the world don't eat it, they can afford the high priced organic food. Let the sheep eat the modified stuff and die of cancer.
Good video. Promoting an informed opinion on a matter is always a better way to make decisions affecting your choices in life. The only thing I would include is the suggestions that they also do it in an objective matter taking both sides into account. Education after all is a lifelong endeavor.
1.Vegetarian/vegans is a completely separate category than organic foodies.
2. Do you honestly think because our GMO food can feed the world, that is what were doing? its not, were not sending any food to starving countries. GMO was made to increase profits, not feed the poor.
Because you saw an episode of penn and teller, does not make you an expert on the subject.
you and the long haired kid have a point or two. However the big picture is, all natural foods are much more expensive to produce and come in less numbers. America doesn't have a starving issue and more of the world starves due to other reasons than the production of food, however to say no to GMO foods would destroy an economy and make it nearly impossible for desert areas in america to have food, due to transportation and cost.
GMO actually are worse for crops, even though they do initially yield more produce, because they impoverish the terrain sooner, yielding less, and most of all they are made so that farmers have to buy the seeds time and time again instead of getting them from the earlier harvest, as was done before. I have been told (this bit is based on conversations, I could be wrong) that GMO are made in a way that makes it harder for the earth to go back to organic, so as to force farmers to stay GMO.
Second point: It's used for both, More than likely mostly for profit, but at the same time, still used for both.
And also, he never insulted anyone in this vid. He also never claimed to be an expert. Grow up.
Third point: Shows your not only opinionated about what food we should eat, but also how we look, which makes you essentially no better than a Nazi. I refer to the last two words of the Second point: Grow up.
This is a strong point, for people here not getting it, taking out GMO means the population would exceed the food supply, meaning that alot of people would starve to death, instead of protesting, go learn some bio and start finding a better way to feed the world.
I hate it when people say their against gmo foods because its "unnatural". Farmers have been genetically modifying foods since they have been harvesting them, just at a lesser scale, choosing seeds from the more healthier, resistant plants. Now with science we are able to feed more people. And contrary to what some people say, GMO FOODS DONT HAVE ANIMAL GENES!
well actually, yeilds so have have been higher than gmo crops, and the long term health effects have not been established. you should really further educate yourself on the issue, have you heard of Monsanto? look into it for real, don't just go to the website, learn.
Read the wikipedia entry for GMO for examples of serious problems. Not definitive, but worth seeing.
I oppose GMO because it contaminates my food supply, because it is likely unnecessary(a gamble), and because of negative effects being swept under the rug by an industry working for profit, despite possibly having great impact on the ecosystem we rely on.
So we should continue the "food/population race" infinitely?
Also, some sources show that GMO has not been the great improvement that is claimed. That predicted yields have not been met. Farming practices have far more impact than tech. Some GMO yields fall behind the standard.
Unaddressed health/environmental concerns do exist.
It's a money grab, for the most part.
Monocrop ag is unsustainable anyway, regardless of "improvements".

GMO and GEO works on agriculture becuase 70% of all corn and grain in the world goes to feed animals raised for food. They have to feed the animals that they are producing.
Unlike alot of people on youtube, you were very respectful in your video towards vegs.
I am a vegan, and I hate when people think that my choice to be so is stupid, and they really don't know what they are talking about.
so the idea that food is being wasted on cows is wrong. And even IF it were true, with gmo there's no need to stop feeding cows, which would inherently starve to death if these vegans got their wish. durrr
well put yeah, but I find the angry rants to be more amusing haha I don't understand why some people are against gmo. So what? Vegans in particular like to boast that if we gave all the foods cows eat to the starving population it would solve world hunger, which is false. First of all, most hunger is caused by poverty, not lack of food (the obesity of america has already proven there's enough food on the planet to go around)
Go three weeks on a strictly organic diet and you'll feel the difference. If people are starving and we're so worried about it, maybe we should stop being so lazy and actually do something to help in stead of feeding, already starving and dying people, poisons. think of how much extra food we'd have if everyone turned their lawns into gardens. It's not poisons. Since GM food is cheaper that means we can actually afford to feed starving people.
I've noticed many vegans or all-organic supporters forget that organic products are more expensive to produce, we'd wouldn't be able to help them. You also need to renember giving them a whole organic diet requires more food in total because alot of GM foods especially vegetables or crops have more nuitrients added to them so they give starving people more nuitrients more easily.
