It's alive saw it the other day. Got a complete top end for my Stuart coming. Glad you found a replacement head, it will be running in no time. My amanco has got a mind of it's own, but they are good old reliable engines. Looking forward to seeing another video good luck
@steamwally Yoooowww! Great, Phill, you just get used used to setting the needle. It probably won't be the same as mine but I open it one full turn to start it then back off till it starts to splutter and put it back a bit to run it. The 2T mix won't help!
Cheers! I think it was open about 2 turns here, so as a result it just kept soaking the ignitor and stalling the engine.....there was far too much oil floating about as well lol
Well done. when the piston beds in again it will start and run much better. The 2 stroke mix might be a bit sooty for the igniter but you,ll soon have it running like a champ...
I knew someone would say that.....that is not the intake. This is a petrol parafin amanco. The mixer/carb is heated by the hot exahaust gases which pass out of a second exhaust port, through the black manifold on the head, through a jacket round the mixer and out of that little exhaust pipe underneath. Air is drawn into the mixture through slots in the bowl that forms the bottom half of it.
IT'S ALIVE! Well done, that little bit of life makes all the long evenings worthwhile...At least with clean petrol next time it will fire up much easier. Hope the head repair is a success and you can get her running for a good while next time.
I think there was just too much oil floating about for it to work well, so fresh petrol it is....though I don't think we'l be needing the high performance stuff.....
Yay!!! Im really pleased to be witnessing this, and Im also glad you showed the first part where she wouldn't run. This is all part and parcel of the initial fire up in my view. Things just don't run first time, little tweaks are needed here and there etc, so what we see here is accurate in my view.
However fire up she did, and I imagine you feel pretty good with yourself at that point? LOL lets face it, it really is a great feeling hearing this mechanical beast run once again.
You have summed it up perfectley, it all takes time but it's another step on the road to that first rally! What you see here is still an editied down version, I've just included a bit of the "tinkering" because I know most people wouldn't want to watch that for hours on end!
It seems that I simply didn't have enough fuel in the tank so it was only just enough to get it going, but enough to prove it works :)
@steamwally Those first few puffs of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe, well its a sight to behold, especially when all you've seen for months on end is a shed full of bits and pieces... ha ha
And work she did, your on the home straight now Phil... :-)
Loved the music Phil!! I was in stitches!! Being serious now....Im glad its running now, im sure once you have a fiddle here and there it will be running a treat! Give yourself and Monty a pat on the back!!
the music and the head scratch near the start made this video! great job phill!

Your dog seems to take it all in his stride. A true enthusiast indeed.

He's well used to the noise of the engines now. The one he doesn't like is the ATCO lawn mower...he runs away when that one comes out...bless him :)

thats good enough for me I enjoyed that even though it was a short run.
now you have a car you need an engine thats a bid hard to start to give you some exercise lol.
chox2001 1 month ago
Cheers.....dont worry I get plenty of excercise at work, I was knackered after this week, spent my entire day running round like a madman....

Yeah I think it's blacking/oiling the ignitor very quickly, at least it runs though.
Cheers!

I am taking the cylinder head to be brazed on Thursday, that should be a much better repair.

There was just too much oil floating about at the moment, it was fouling the ignitor all the time.

Yeah makes it a bit more fun than just watching an engine that won't go.....
I think some fresh petrol...and enough of it and she will go, she kept fouling the ignitor.
