this is a fantastic camera....and it does focus in live view...hold down the zoom out button...the box in your live view will turn green when its done focusing.
The camera does have auto focus in live view you just have to hold the shutter button down abit longer than normal and it will focus where ever that little white square is that will come up green when its focused, I know this from having one before i upgraded to the 7D
Also if you are just getting into using a DSLR learn to shoot in manual this will allow you to get more involved with your camera and also allow you to get more creative with your photography and remember go out there and have fun
at 7:30 you state that the 450D Doesn't have a focus whilst in Live View Mode. This is untrue. If you hold down the Zoom Out button on the top right of the camera whilst in Live view mode then the camera will focus on whatever is in the centre of the view finder box & this will then turn green & beep to let you know it is fully focused.
A camera's ISO function increases the sensitivity of your cameras sensor to light.. For well lit scenes such as a bright summers day, you can keep your ISO low to around the 100-200 range as there will be plenty of light to expose the photo correctly. If you're in low light conditions such as indoors or outside at night, then you'd need to increase your ISO to maybe 800 or 1600.
This Camera looks really nice.I have taken photography for A Level and was wondering if this camera is good for begginers?I want a professional camera that can get me the grades i deserve?
Got this camera now :) There is ALOT of options in this camera! .. I dont need to say anything more than buy!, also the camera feells really REALLY ... performance <3
i discoverd that the 18-55IS Kit lenses in the 450D Set are made in Japan and they have front focus problem, i testet 4 different and all had front focus. The 18-55IS in 1000D Kit are made in Taiwan and work much better and picture quality is also better. I testet 3 18-55IS Taiwan Kit lenses and all worked well with 450D. I give my 18-55IS made in japan back and got a taiwan version now :) Just test your 450D in 18mm and F3,5, im sure it has front focus.
also get rid of that horrible pointless distracting beat ..... for God sake what are we trying to do here anyway... Go dancing or listen to a lecture?
i dont get your words, the 450 has 2 ways to focus in live view, the contrast af and the normal af and both will focus by press and hold the star button.
WHY does nobobody say about the low light capability,eg for taking pictures of the night sky,and will it stitch multiple images together for a timelapse AVI or MPEG video ?
The low light capability is as good as the lens fitted. The standard lens is a f/3.5-5.6 which isn't amazing. long exposures will need a tripod so you can use a tripod and set it to ISO100 to reduce noise. Heat generated off the pixels from long exposures creates a different type of noise on neighbouring pixels though.
Timelapse, I don't think it does, you'll need software for the computer, I guess.
Thank you for your reply: as a user of a Pentax 35mm film camera,i wanted to compare the CCD or CMOS sensor with film, now i know the budget dictates to the quality of the overall image ,but more so the Glass,so its DSLR but is it Canon or Nikon for less than £1000:00 UK with Lens,be it body/lens or kit combo.and i am aware of the X 1.6 of the smaller sensors.
Really, you use a Pentax 35mm? Do you do infra red with it? we always welcome external written contributions of articles. If you'd like to help, let me know and I'll ask the features editor to call you. =:O)
For the price you're wanting to pay, you may as well get the cheapest kit or even body only and buy a nice 50mm f/1.4 or something.
You'd prolly be happier with the Canon, but go to a shop, look at all three and then you can decide. Just be sure to do the shop a favour and spend your money with them. =:O)
I'm unsure I understand. This is the Canon EOS 450D, not the Sony Alpha 350. Unfortunately, I never got hold of that model so I can't give any advice on comparisons sorry.
If by pro you mean SLR, then this is an ok model to try. It's dead easy to use and has an auto feature if it all gets too much for you. Don't expect to see a pro using one though. It's just not cricket.
of corse. yes all the Canon Eos range 400D or450. they are great starter cameras. the Canon Eos is in the group "my First Digital SLR" i baught the 400D as my fist DSLR and i completely love it!! the 450D is more easily avaliable as the 400D has been replaced by the 450D. i would highly rate it! ( hope this helps)
What's wrong with it? I kinda like it. Is it too loud or just plain rubbish? Do you mean the drums part at the beginning or the location music or both?
Can the Canon 450D record video?

these may seem like weird question to hardened photographers reading this but can anyone answer these questions on the 450D:
1) is it possible to power the camera via usb?
2) can the battery be charged by plugging the camera into USB.
3) and can the camera act as a "webcam" by pluging it into a PC?
MustNotRead 2 years ago
No to all three. :)
epzmatt 2 years ago 4
how do you charge it then? It takes odd shaped lithium batteries so how else could you charge them?
luke036r 2 years ago
with the provided charger unit

My HP Camera is fully loaded and comes up with USB cable. You can also set the zoom and the print quality. It uses double A battery and a tripod.

you would recommend this camera for a beginner/inspired photographer? I have no idea whether this one would be better than another model...
gorskibot 3 years ago
It's a starter camera but not the lowest quality of the EOS range. For that you need the EOS 1000D which I've also reviewed.
The EOS 450D would be suitable for what your needs appear to be.
