Also, another question, how did you stand your time with these guys if they were always smoking (no offense if you're a smoker) and drinking. How did you deal with that, because in America, we learn that 2nd hand smking is bad, but u know, in Spain everyone smokes. I hope you get my question.
Tao this is hilarious. I hope you respond to this comment, if not someone else.
Why do the gitanos shout alza and amaya, and aire, for cheers, and what are their meanings. Aire- I'm guessing they want more of it? but why alza and Amaya (to praise Carmen amaya?)
I say this with no irony - I had a similar experience listening to "El Pele" at 3 a.m. once in a little Cordoban bar with 3 other people which was never equalled by any paid performance or recording by him I subsequently heard. This film by Tao (all 10 parts) is a wonderful insight into "la vida flamenca". My only gripe is the dominance of buleria. It would have been something to have heard someone sing por siguiriyas in the settings and circumstances Tao found himself in.
Machetes, he's talking about Manuel Torre, circa 1920. He had a hard "chesty" way of singing that is not to everyone's taste - although it's generally thought that live and on form, i.e. well-oiled, after a three-day "juerga" when most people had gone home or fallen by the wayside, and he suddenly felt like singing, he was vastly superior to anything he recorded.
hey tao, who is the singer paca valdapenia is describing? Manuel - i would really like to hear the "taranta" by the cantaor Manuel . You know the name of the song, and the full name of the artist?
Muchisima gracias de ponerlo en la red. Muy bien, muy integre y honesta. Viva el flamenco puro!
