Can anyone find the old news reports about this? It seems to me that Heinz was outraged about the cost of it. They just told somebody to make a commercial and didn't put a limit on the cost. When they saw the bill, they started scooping their eyeballs up off the floor. I'm not sure this is true, maybe the old news accounts can be found. I'll keep looking. This is from a long time ago, but it's a dandy.
@shaneu1 Unfortunately when I got it the part that was missing I wasn't able to find anywhere else. I still have lots more commercials coming so maybe the full version will be in that collection....we'll see !
OH MY GOD.This is my favorite commercial of all time!! "Face the chicken gumbo, and dance!" People think I'm nuts for trying to describe this, and how funny it truly is - now I can just point them here and prove that I'm right! LOL
Many thanks for posting this ! I remember the commercial when it aired, and Ann Miller was just SO beautiful and very talented (she could sell me anything). One other tidbit of info I discovered that at the time (1970) it was the most expensive commercial ever made.
Stan Freberg produced this for Heinz in 1970. Hermes Pan was choreographer; Billy May scored and conducted the music; Dave Willock portrayed the "Husband". Ann KNEW this was a satire (and amalgam) of all the "Hollywood production numbers" she ever appeared in, and eagerly agreed to do it, sending up her "screen image". She had as much fun doing this as co-starring with Mickey Rooney in "Sugar Babies" on Broadway, a decade later. However, this did NOT help sales of "Great American Soups".
I noticed that came off a 'greatest commercials' special.. I'd recorded it years ago and lost track of it.. If you have any way of providing the whole show somehow I'd be uber grateful!
I never cared much about tap dancing. I do now. LOL.

I heard this was the most expensive promo at their time. It's a shame it was for a soup brand no one remembers.

This commercial really boosted the sales of Campbells. Unfortunately Great American Soups was not a Campbells product, and the brand died.

There used to be a posting of this commercial that was complete. What happened to it?
Also, the complete commercial is available on a videotape that came with the Stan Freberg CD boxed set from Rhino (unfortunately out of print.)

I really miss her! She never got enough credit for her talent. I'd watch her any day instead of skinny, scrawny, homely Fred Astaire.
