@joek0617 They have small white LEDs in them. They are usually only around exits off the highway to help keep truck drivers awake. Not 100% if thats the reason, but that's what I heard.

@owner8515 Well, they aren't better per se. Turn-table ladders are shorter then the tiller ladders, so it depends on the situation. If you need to reach high then a turn-table would probably be not long enough. Turntable ladders however are more stable (basic physics), so are more usable if you need a to guide a civilian of a building.

@owner8515 i agree with GhostRules, but what is special about tiller ladders is the ability to fit tighter into spaces on the block, with the ability to guide the rear of the truck separate from the cab driver, a Tiller has the ability to cut corners better than a standard turntable

@flotmetaler2 Not on a whim, the truck is unitized. It's not like a semi that has a fifth wheel that allows you to remove the trailer; they're attached. My department operates a tiller and a tractor that used to belong to a tiller (now used as a squad and for trailering antique trucks). The truck had to be modified because of the lines that went to the trailer.

@chargers2960 The vector bar is used on apparatus cause of the "V" shaped design for clearing interesections. Very useful in the city cause it "throws" the light to reflect off buildings so motorists will know the truck is approaching from a sidestreet before they see or even hear it in some cases.

Unlike volley fire departments, career ones don't leave someone behind at the fire station. EVERYBODY GOES. If you're the last truck out, you close the door. Most big city department don't have remote door closers.

My volunteer department doesn't do that. If they see you pulling in they'll wait. Hell they had the engine wait for me in the road so I could get my stuff. The only time they don't wait is it's full, in which case it doesn't even matter.

It's the Tillerman, he has a steering wheel back there that turns the back wheel on the trailer. When the driver turns right the tiller turns left and vice versa. Watch the video closley. It lets the truck manuver better through tight spaces.

I would love to be the driver of the tiller. The trailer part that is. Our department is looking for a ladder truck but they would never go for a Tiller. Mainly lookin for a single axle 75-100ft ladder. Maybe even a midmount with a all-steer.

while up in yellowstone , the two engines we had at lake yellowstone, one was 500 and one was I think 750, and Hydrants were spread out really well, and I can guarentee you when hoses are putting out 125 to 150 gallons per minute, those tanks are gone faster than you relize

Black firefighters... don't see a lot of those in my city out of about 400 firefighters I think there might be 5 at the most. There was actually a article in my local news paper on how to make the requirements easier so more blacks would join lol. It didn't happen. This job is mostly Irish and Italians and I don't see that changing in the near future.
