i think its a bit of a cruelty. Growing them for aesthetic purposes rather than what they are meant for. Stunting and forcing them into shapes and sizes we desire is being unfair to their original design.
Bonsai are invariably better looked after and cared for than any other plant. We treat them more like pets ! Root pruning simply replaces old, redundant roots with young fibrous, useful ones.
Trees in nature are often naturally dwarfed - but they then die. A well cared for bonsai doesn't - and they can live for centuries because of that care.
However, turning trees/shrubs into images of animals or geometric shapes (topiary)- THAT'S weird.
I have a bonsai its a Ficus Macrophylla and is 26 years old for some reason it has stopped uptaking water and has not dunkin any in over a month witch is unusual and now the roots hav started to rot , so I have repotted into a much lager pot and it seems to be coming back to heath , unfortunatly its lost the effect of the wow in a small pot
I have looked at Easybonsaigarden's web site and I don't think they have anything to do with these particular trees, which are part of an exceptional collection in a museum. Please seek out information at Bonsai Northwest, the Puget Sound Bonsai Association or Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection, itself, if you want real and truthful information.
These are Weyerhaeuser's trees at the Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection, Federal Way Washington. You should have given them and David DeGroot credit here. The tree at 1:45 is a beech tree with exceptional branch structure- lovely in the winter with dark red brown buds on silver bark.
What type of tree is the one at 1:45? How much would it cost to buy in a state like that or what's your best estimate of how long it took to grow that?
Does anyone know what the tree is at 1:44? It looks absolutely amazing! Some people have asked what that tree is but they have received no answer. I would guess a Japanese Boxwood but I have no idea as I'm no expert or even an amateur.

@Lukaz1989 I don't think anyone was thinking you were gay until you mentioned it. Lol just kidding. It's all good man, bonsai's are beauty. We can't get around it. Many men create bonsai's. It's not 'gay' at all. It's actually very peaceful, and soothing.
I heard you can grow a bonsai tree more quickly by growing a branch you cut off from an older full size tree. Is this true and does anyone have more information on it?
Yes it is possible to gow them and eat the fruit, but most fruit and flowering plants take many years to mature and begin to make fruits, so grafting a young fruit tree onto an older rootstock is a good idea because it combines a new fresh fruit tree with the maturity of the old, and it will start to make fruits in under a year (Depending on the plant) Try to research "Grafting fruit trees" because it is a lengthy explaination and then come back if you need help.
as long as there's good soil and it's cared for properly, a bonsai tree will live basically forever. i believe the oldest one currently is around 800, 900, to 1000 yrs. old. but don't quote me on that
My aunt is a swedish master at Ikebana which is the "female form" (I belive its yin) of these kinds of arrengements. :) She even teaches the art of Ikebana (I know its two different things but she has all the tools etc) so she has prommised me to help me start with a bonsai :D
Anyone here who knows a simple bonsai arrengement for starters?
Well, the most basic tools you are going to need are long-handed shears (Pruning scissors, to trim the tree) some bonsai soil or akadama soil (Available at all Bonsai nurseries, not 100% necessary, but will require later on for other plants. Would you be able to tell me what plants you might be planning to grow for Bonsai?) a root hook (To comb the roots of a plant when repotting, but still advanced for now.) and a tweezer-comb (To clean up weeds & comb the soil.)
could someone tell me the name of the bonsai´s shown at 1:11 and 2:52 ? if i would grow them from seeds how long would it take before they get the size in the pictures?
The tree at 2:52 is a Prostrata Juniper. I know that actual tree -- it's in the Weyerhauser Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection, which is no longer open to the public. That tree is about 50 years old. Hello jdfox1!
These are REAL bonsaitrees!
You should not buy one of these even if you can afford them!
They will just die in your care and years and years of work is gone into thin air!!
Go with plants like Chlorophytum comosum, yucca palms and other EASY plants that can be wasted without no harm being made!
STAY AWAY FROM BONSAITREES, they are not for you!! ;D
