Was this guy the coolest singer/songwriter/performer ever? Damn. I could listen to him speak his stories all day long. That alone would be entertaining. But then he sings them too. Unreal. Jim, I was 18 months old when you died, but to listen to you on YouTube is a blessing indeed. Thank you for posting these treasures from Jim and the BBC!
"...SHE WAS BUILT LIKE A REFRIDGERATOR WITH A HEAD..." ahahahah!! Thats a lyric that I have remembered since I was a little kid dancing with my aunt and uncle in their trailer to this song. I can still smell the pot they smoked and the overly sugared red kool-aid she made for my cousins and me.
I grew up listening to this man. I think that he is a truely exceptional musician. The world grew a little darker and sadder the day he died. He has been my vinyl companion for now over 40 years. I came from a broken home and used to stare at him sitting on that suitcase on the roadside for hours. You are the greatest - Jim Croce!!!
damn. i always thought this song was an homage to big badass roller derby chicks from the 70s. but this little gem makes it sound like he's making fun of her. now i'm sad. :(
Fuck Im surprised at how good that quality is. Jim and Maury fucking kick ass, musicians like this keep me true to the folk, bluegrass, rock roots still found in very few contemporary artists.
I know the feeling, JIM....like the night I fell in love with the female clown at Barum& Baily Ringling Brothers circus....in Carbondale, Illinois...in the 1980's...what a show....what a clown. That night at first sight I fell in love with a circus clown! Can't forget her, she has ruined my life because there will never be another....
lol...I also always picture this guy at the bar watching the screen and going, "Damn, she is HOT." Interesting to hear that he started out with her character (rather than the narrator's).
The BBC did an excellent job filming Jim Croce here. Sound quality great. Here we get to see Jim as I think we would have seen him in concert. He is very good on stage. Sure wish he had lived longer. I wish Jim had done another hour of songs for the BBC. I wonder if they interviewed him for this? That would be interesting to see as well.
This is INCREDIBLE footage! So clear, sounds great, too! I'm so glad this is on here! This is my guy, my dad used to drive around in an old Skylark playin' Jim Croce and Harry Chapin for us kids. I took to punk rock and who knows what else, but I'll never forget my roots!
man i miss those days when had to play behind chicken wire

Who is the other guy singing harmonies?
tatsandteles 7 months ago
@tatsandteles
That guy is Maury Muehleisen. Classic trained guitarist who toured and recorded with Jim and unfortunately died in the same plane crash.
stevensgt1 6 months ago
@tatsandteles Jim Croce's guitar partner was Maury Muehleisen from Trenton, NJ.

Maybe my favorite of all his songs...
well she might be nasty, she might be fat
but I never met a person who could tell her that
lol...I also always picture this guy at the bar watching the screen and going, "Damn, she is HOT." Interesting to hear that he started out with her character (rather than the narrator's).
