  • You can legally take time off work to go and vote. It really is not that big of a deal. People are just lazy, that is why they dont get off their ass and go vote, plus they dont think that their vote actually count.

  • rira444 i bet you won't say that shit to my face....you computer gangster...that's all you do talk shit on your computer.....

Fuck you and your family bitch....Racist people die of cancer....I hope you get it....

  • your not even an American. your in Ireland, who gives a shit what you think

  • is the pot calling the kettle black?!?

  • rich dont want poor to vote. after a hard day of work they stay home thats the real reason why they want change it to sat.

  • So the rich don't actually work? They just have the money? How? Inheritance? Feudalism? Magic? Unfairness?

How many rich people have you known personally? The few I have known worked longer hours than anyone I've ever met.

Lose the class envy. Strive to be rich, not knock the rich down a peg. That's unproductive.

  • well actually i went to a private school on scholarship and had many nice weekend with wealthy people who were nice. and none of those wealthy people did hard work. the people your talking are working middle class ?

  • Are you being serious? Your experience is with students from a private school (which neither you nor your parents had to pay for) and those student's families on weekends, and that's enough for you? Do you know how sheltered and naive that sounds?

No, I am talking about self-made wealthy people. Why not aim high? Then, even if you miss, you are better off.

Too many people don't try that hard, but are convinced they have, so they're convinced someone owes them a bigger slice of pie. Sad.

  • well i have a great feel of poor and middle class. i also spend summers and went around the country with wealth could have went around the world but i was scared to fly. naive i think you and 90 percent of people or more are the naive. you must not be rich its all a game of control. belive it or not everyone cant be wealthy or poor if you think about it

  • Moblogic rocks!

  • Heaven help us if they extended the number of days you can vote. Imagine the exit poll nightmare that would exist. What is so hard about voting? You show up either before work or after (if you work at all) and do it. If you don't think you will be around absentee ballots are readily available. If you can't handle either of these 2 ways you probably shouldn't be voting anyway.

  • Exquisite reporting I loved it, provocative, job very well done :)

  • You could install a voting machine in every square mile of inhabited territory in this country and you would still have piss poor voter turnout.

  • Not if voting was manditory.

  • Do you really think that is a solution?

A republic depends on an informed electorate. We have enough problems right now with the false left-right paradigm supported by the corporate media. Every four years an uninformed electorate argues about things like flag pins and whether or not a candidate called his wife a cunt. Meanwhile the status quo stays the same: Americans lose liberty.

I don't want to make the problem worse by forcing people to vote.

  • One question that previously escaped me: Do you not see the contradiction in forcing people to take part in a republic?

  • Voting is manditory in Australia and Belgium and it seems to work there. The US government already compels people to pay taxes, go to school till you are at least sixteen, immunize your kids, serve on juries if you are called, etc. How would manditory voting be any different? And you should look up "republic". A country can be a republic and not even have elections at all. I think you mean democracy.

  • And you should read the American constitution and the debate between the federalists and anti-federalists. America is a republic, not a democracy.

You're right in that compulsory voting would not be different from the income tax, forced immunization, and government schools. That is the point. What you should know is that those institutions you name are an aberration from our founding principles. They represent no less an infringement on liberty than conscription into military service.

  • Hooray! An informed voter!

Personally, I think there should be a test, like a driver's exam, to be allowed to vote.

  • we should be voting on either saterday or sunday

  • Someone will probably misinterpret the below comment I just made so be aware that its satire.

  • I think voting should be on December 25th. Oops! Is that a religious holiday for a certain segment of society?

    Oh well!

  • (sarcasm)

  • Very interesting. It is amazing the things I don't think about. It is a good idea to have a voting day on a weekend..., or maybe the entire weekend. That would certainly give people more time to vote and the goones more trouble due to a massive turn-out. Just thinking here.

  • In Germany we vote on Sundays. The voter turnout in the "Bundestag"-election 2005 where around 78%, and that is the lowest participation since 1949.

  • Here's another question they could ask:

If our voting system isn't working, then why should Americans vote?

  • It's working in the sense that it helps the two thieving D.C. gangs look at least slightly more legitimate to the zombified public than if they were just frank about it like the Soviet Union of yestercentury.
