This is one of my favorite melodies. I used this tune for my music theory class in high school. I arranged it for organ, timpani and 4 trumpets. Got an A for the project!
This hymn tune is heard often in Christian Science churches. It is one of several settings for Mary Baker Eddy's poem "Feed My Sheep", also known by its first line, "Shepherd, show me how to go". Of the hymns by Mrs. Eddy, this is probably the most "accessible" to other Christians.
Lovely hymn tune... just a shame it's heard so rarely - can only think of "Hail The Day That Sees Him Rise" and one or two more obscure hymns that rarely see the light of day now, sadly.
Yeah I know, when my son and I walked in, we saw the Chapel in a sort of disarray. Little did we know that there would be banging, hammering, and loud enough talking that sometimes filtered into the Sanctuary which is separated from the Chapel by a gate. I was to have been there the day before as arranged by the Music Dir./ Organist, but I unexpectedly had to work. It's fine, we worked around it and the organ sounds grand!
Beautiful hymn, beautiful organ, and beautiful registrations. Absolutely love what you did with the last verse. Congrats on a piece well played!

A wonderful tune in its own right, though!

Yeah, but in fairness, it's an Ascension hymn so how often can you sing it? :-)
