Actually the rifled slug is yes mildly use to stabilize it's self but designed for use in a modified choke so you can shoot the slug and still have it weigh an ounce and not clog the barrel the grooves get squished down

@JCRF no removable chokes on this barrel. However I think you can by other hunting barrels that quick change out that would be able to take removable chokes.

the wite stuff is not an insulator is a dryer to prevent rusting and also to keep the powder dry becouse the shell is not entire hermetic and just by the moisture in the air can spoil the powder is like the little bags in the electronics just with out the bag

@rajvosa71000 a regular one has no rifling but you can shoot rifled slugs reliably through it. In fact rifled slugs are designed for smooth bore shotgun barrels. Now a rifled shotgun barrel is designed to shoot sabot slugs. They are very popular in places where rifle hunting is banned because a sabot slug will be accurate out to 300 yards or so where a rifled slug is usually accurate out to about 100 yards.

a heat shield on a shot gun is mainly just cosmetic I put 1 on my 500 because they look cool but I Never got the barrel hot enough to burn me. 100 rounds will get it extremely hot but nothing to scream about.

I went out and got slugs for my mossberg 500, i got home and found out there slugs for rifled barrels not smooth bore barrels. Are the slugs going to damage my smooth bore barrel if i use them?

@sofargone561 It is perfect for home defense. I would recomend 00 Buck shot. Either 2 3/4" or 3" magnum both of which you should be able to find at a walmart or any good sporting goods store. I would also practice with the shotgun occasionally just to get comfortable with the operation of the pump and to build confidense. The shotgun at close range is much more lethal then any handgun I can think of.

When you might only have the chance to fire one shot I like knowing what I hit no matter how big or doped up on crack will be stopped peroid. Thats just me. granted if you live in an apartment and are worried about hitting someone a couple rooms away a pistol with hollow points might be the answer for you.

@sofargone561 TRY THE REMINGTON LAW ENFORCEMENT REDUCED RECOIL 00 BK shells. its a two and three quarter inch shell with 40% less recoil to re-aim faster and it wont tear up your house as badly and its still powerfull enough to annihilate anything it hits! i alternate those with 1 ounce slugs for my home defense.

@Titan9mm I thought about getting a laser but its not in the budget right now. The Ncstar is still holding up I put about 100 rounds through it and maybe another 50 rounds of magnum buck and slugs through it and it still working... I am thinking about upgrading down the road though.

I have a few questions on your shotgun. Isnt that stock an ATI six postion stock? How well can you get a cheek weld and align the front bead? ive heard alot of people say you need the 1/2inch spacer to get a decent sight alignment. and did the tri mount and heat shield just fit perfectly together with no mods needed? im wanting to buy the same upgrades for my shotgun that you have on yours i have a mossberg maverick 88.

@klown8745 Its a factory mossberg stock I believe it is six position, you need a couple spacers to change the angle of your stock you can get them on ebay really cheap mossberg factory part. I had to use a clamp to squeeze the heat sheild a little to get the tri rail mount on.
