@lunarcrisis i don't know about the music but this video is a sped up version of him painting with nicker poster paint in "Oga Kazuo Exhibition: The One Who Painted Totoro’s Forest dvd/blu-ray"
I assume he painted from his imagination so much all the while studying life/photos that he can do this kind of stuff almost entierly out of his head hah!
Poster paint for the background artwork, they had it on the studio tables at Ghibli museum. Full of amazing original artwork, well worth going if you ever get to Tokyo, it's in Mitaka. Wonderful place. With an amazing 3d zoetrope machine with lots of character including Neko/cat bus and Totoro all moving in what seems 3d!
No, it's poster color paint. He said so himself in the blu-ray I have of his work. He thins it down with water to create a water color consistency and effect.
@duran3d old post, but from an interview I saw with I think he uses poster paints. He's got 40-50 pots of different colours at the front of his drawing table and grabs the ones he needs for whatever he's working on
Tranparent sheet is probably the same as airbrush artists use, it's sticky one side to keep it in place to mask an area so sprayed paint won't stray onto those areas you want to keep white or unaffected by the spray. I'm sure a decent art shop would have it.
Nicker Poster Colour to be exact!
