  • The relativ atom masses are to handel (addit) with (g/mol=x*10^-36) for the exactly molecularmass, divide it by the number of atoms and verb they paralell to the exactly ratio you want. You can to addit the sames atoms before do the paralell verbs.

It is a kind of magic sure.

Amazon.de sell an periodensystem with relative atommasses and more.

I like the texas instrument calculators (not the cheapest.

  • Honestly, you need to really investigate this field and interview some technologists. I would advise some other healthcare field. Unless you want to work long hours at night forever, get no respect because anyone can push a button as they say, be at the mercy of unscrupulous managers who make life misreable, you will not find many who don't hate their job.

  • @bren57mar

I thought for a moment that you were referring to nursing. This problem with respect for co-workers must be throughout the entire healthcare profession.

  • is med lab techonology a university program or a college one?? does anybody know what's the salary?

  • im a med tech or medical laboratory scientist as they call us now and yes i do hate my job.

  • @mollzz its just a job and its not rewarding. im not saying it isnt an important job because it is but its really hard to see the good you actually do. Also if you work in a hospital (maybe not all labs but mine) for some reason everything is our fault even when it is clearly not. you will begin to hate nurses. It probably depends on how well run the lab is but it seems that the people that run my lab have no desire to make the place an enjoyable place to work

  • @crumbumcorvette would you say it's a job for introverts or not?

  • @DaMostEnigmatic I guess mostly but there are plenty of really outgoing people also.

  • Man, this some ol bullshit

  • To answer your question JnthnFRbn29 that depends on what you're willing to do to care for your patient. Also depends on what you're looking for out of life.

  • what do you think about nursing compared to MT?

  • @01250507 the best advice i have is to go into an observation or mentorship program of some sort. I was a pre-med bio major until I shadowed a few docs and found that I really do not like to be around sick people. I am a CLS student currently and I love, I get the diagnostic aspect of being a physician with out all the patient contact.

  • Can a MLT become a forensic?

  • A forensic scientist is a masters degree or higher. However, working in a forensic lab doesn't require a forensic degree. MLT's can work in forensic labs just not a level you might want to.

  • So,basically MLT cant change their course/upgrade to a forensic?

Did you mean that MLTS's can work in forensic labs as a MLT or a forensic?

  • I wanted to become a doc and then take a specialty in something related to science... but i wouldn't want to spend eternity studying while there's a job that does what i want and only takes like 5 yrs. Here's my question: how would i get 2yrs of experience, if nobody would higher someone with less than 2? I heard that Clinics are a good way to start, but i'm not sure

  • Not a lot of ways to shortcut the process whether it be nursing or lab.

  • @mayelaine2 Try like The American Red Cross...... First apply for your MLT.. then you MT... Its better to be Certified then not.

  • @mayelaine2 volunteering is a great way to get experience while you are attending school.

  • @mayelaine2

If you spell the word hire as "higher" that would be your first clue that you don't have what it takes to be a "doc".

    I'm

  • @thnkr0917 And how do you know that? You're basing on a single Youtube comment. How silly.

  • This career is not really promising, since the pay is less than Nursing, and they all require you to have a least 2 years experiences in MT...I rather go for Nursing...Better pay, less requirements and more advance opportunity. MT is a dead end job...Period !

  • @swatus I just want to set the record straight for anyone who might be thinking of MT/CLS as a career choice. Nursing is for those who want to deal with patients regularly, depending on you hospital you may not need to do that as an MT. Also there is room for advancement it is not a dead end, a lot of the advancing as w/ nursing is going into management. There is also the opportunity of changing hospital size generalizing, specializing, and I have seen some ppl go back to generalist.

  • Continued... I just don't wanna waste another year trying to pursue a career, only to realize it was just a fad. I thought a career in the health field was fine, UNTIL I was watching TV and saw this man come in the hospital with about a million maggots crawling on his entire foot & ankle!!! I absolutely HATE bugs, parasites, or anything that resembles it!! I itch just thinking about em! Does that mean this career isn't right for me?

  • as long as you dont work in micro you will be fine. If you work as a generalist you will certainly never have to see any parasites

  • How do you know if a medical technologist career is right for you? When I 1st graduated from high school, I thought a career as a juvenile probation officer or paralegal was right for me. I'm not really interested in those fields anymore. My dad suggested that I take up nursing. BUT, I don't like interacting w/ ppl much and I don't like being around sick ppl, lol. A job that doesn't require a lot of interaction w/ ppl would suit me A LOT better.

  • excellent work!

  • Are you looking for work? Do you know anyone looking for a position?

  • quita you are either sarcastic or you are an idiot

  • I was THIS CLOSE to changing my major to MED TECH, but then realized that the starting salary is like 30-40k?

    UM, no thanks.

  • ,. i am a medical technology student, and i love this proffesions very much., doctors aint smart without us around., :)

  • Good word.That's true.

  • I just lost my job at quest. I was a tech and now I am unemployed. Thank god!!

Time to use my skills for something wothwhile.

  • Can you elaborate? I am thinking of becoming a tech.

  • Im a Certified MT, the pay is lower than i would like...there are so many older people where I work and in most Labs , that are soon to retire. There are also good opportunities in the administrative and sales side of many companies like Siemens..Pay in CT is around 50-58K for students...so its up to what you want...you can move up if you are good at what you do...its a field all about having a speciality (ex: micro, immuno, sales, regulatory, chemetc). Good luck to all thinking about your future

  • i was thinking about changing my career to this but looking at the responses of the pay, i think i'm just gonna stick with what i got

  • What is it "you got"? Yes, pay is a bit under what nurses make. And no, you won't get rich. Depends on what you like to do. Direct patient contact all day like nurses? Physical therapy, respiratory therapy? Too much direct patient contact for me.

  • Depends on how much you want to make. Unless you're a Doc or administrative type, $100K plus jobs are rare. Even nursing generally doesn't reach this level.

Pay is very much a regional thing. The coasts and other areas of the country, pay is much higher but cost of living (especially housing) is proportionally higher as well. Mid-west where I live, pay is somewhat lower but housing is substantially lower.

  • I'm choosing between computer science & med tech this enrollment. Is this a more fulfilling than being an RN?

  • Pay also varies according to rural vs. urban. Hospital vs. clinic vs. reference lab vs. physician office.

As with all health occupations, lab is also recession "resistant".

Bottom line, it depends on what you like to do and what you find rewarding!!

  • well im going to school to be a lawyer but wanted to change to the medical field because i wanted to do something that would help people and benefit the world. i would find this rewarding but i'm also looking for a good pay rate. i also live in the mid-west too but the cost of living here is pretty high for what people are getting paid these days

  • Im so lost i dont know whether to be a microbiologist or a medical laboratory technologists=(

  • this sounds like a boring ass job,i d like to be the guy who cuts stuff up to see whats wrong or abnormal with a organ:)

  • I am in this field for coming to 5 years! I won't say this is a boring job because what you do everyday makes a difference to someone's medical treatment. You could have mixed up a specimen or did something major, or delay someone's treatments if you were not careful with your work.

So, this is a meaningful career.

  • hello :) i'm planning to take up med.tech as my course next school year. how hard it is ma'am/sir? how fun? and what can you give as your advices to me?.. reply back .. :) thank you!

  • I depends on how you define fun. It is most definitely a lot of hard work and study. But if you enjoy science, math, and detailed work, it is most definitely fun. My advice, be prepared to work hard and follow direction.

  • i MADE 16/HR AS MLT THEN 21/HR AS A MT IN MISSOURI. I WAS MAKING 26/HR AS CLINICAL SUPERVISOR WHEN I QUIT.

  • I have a master in Mircobiology and i work as a CLS in Ca, and the starting wage for me was 38.50.

  • In Michigan you make about 22.50 to start and goes up to upper 20's.

So basically you make about the same as a Nurse.

  • Yea in the north east(specifically ct) starting salary is 24.50 per hr then once certified it jumps to around 29.50 per hr. I cant wait to graduate.. only 3 more months!!!!!

  • whats the average starting salary?

  • In the South East USA, the starting salary is around $19/hour

  • Thats funny because I too have trouble getting people to understand what it is I do LOL.

  • haha i'm glad that i'm not the only one who has a hard time explaining what i do for a living.

  • great.i am a medical technologist since 1992 but for the pat ten years am not practicing my profession anymore coz am a policeman alreay. Its great to be reminded of my profession, bravo

  • This is great! Becuase when everyone asks my about my major and I say "CLS" (Clinical lab science) everyone just goes "huh? That's...interesting" not having a CLUE as to what it is. Now I can just give them this link! Thanks!

  • I finished my studies(medical lab. technician 2.5 yrs plus pratikum) in Germany.I came to Canada and I told that my papers were worth a high school diploma. I enrolled in the university and completed a degree in Biology. I have been working in various laboratory but never a medical one. I can I become a medical technician or technologist without a nort american experience?

  • Cool! now when people ask me what is it exactly that I do for a living; I can send them this link.
