this is one of my favourite live techno sets... the passion and the fun that those Burden Brothers express is contagious.. when friends have asked me what is detroit techno, usually show them this... excellent..

I love the Purpose Maker records. It was hard to hear a techno set in the 90s without at least one Purpose Maker track in it. I have the whole set but mine are all worn down...
Also, I never realized it until recently but Call Of The Wild has a Michael Jackson sample in it.

Be fucking serious... Are you telling me this sounds good??? I love techno but give me a fucking break. Ive bin djing for ten yrs, producing for 10 days and can still come up with something better than this in 5 mins. Sorry i tell a lie ive bin producing for more than 10 days but can still come up with something better than this using nothing more than my etch a sketch and an upset stomach.
and im still detating whether ill go see him tomorrow night cause i have a busy day friday! why isnt he mixing fri or sat instead! Glad we can see him quite often in paris, but never enough though. Suggest you visit rex club one day...
he is like no other dj... when you look at him you see that he has always something to do, somthing to torn, something to mix... you see that turntable is his toy and his music becomes fantastic, but other djs are always just interested in how to make crowd dancing... this is also good, but it is not like jeff!!! :)
Of course he does... but for me this is another kind of mixing. It's really a living thing Mills creates here, everything is in motion, the whole time.
Besides that, go try and mix 50 records p/h yourself, CLEAN. I can't :D
realOjive is talking about 'drun drun drun drun' --- that's what I'm reacting to in the other post. That has to be Mills he is talking about, not octave one, the two guys.
That double kickdrum is definitely intentionally. You really need to understand how groovy these guys are ;)
Absolutely, that is exactly what i am saying. But on the other hand, we don't have to romanticize it..... from a technical point view, he misses alot of beats, period. A normal house dj can't get away with this sort of transistions.. I don't think we have to lie about it. Because it's Mills? What does he care..
But it doesn't matter. It makes the music ultra dynamic. This sort of vibe can't be reached by mixing clean anyway.
schubert this is right... his Live at Liquid Room Tokyo mix is legendary, but you can hear Mills constantly nudging the records into place. but when you throw records down that fast who has time for beatmatching? :)
the errors don't make it any less incredible-- his style is a huge influence on me
hmmmm also ich bin der meinung das rng sich gerade so richtig schön warm gespielt hatten und gerade voll wim rolln warn als sie dann auch schon wieder abgeben mussten.... schade! natürlich nischt gegen den wizzard!
dunno..nbit drunk as we speak..i just think mills is middle of the road...whereas random noise generation is fuckin unreal...thes stuff theymake its unreal jknow whati mean?
underground resistance changed the face of techno forever, it wasnt a one man thing, never has been. this set is middle of the road FOR A MILLS SET. he usually plays much better, this is just looped up generic techno business.
Its an awful pity the CD released on exhibitionist wasn't the purpose maker mix, the other one is terrible....purpose maker mix is top notch though...!!
It sounds kind of like a mix of Paradaise (Paradise which is also playing on the middle deck) and the vocal from Alarms. But no, I don't know what track it is either.
infinitystar: You're a joke... No, an idiot. This is not trance. This is STREET MUSIC from DETROIT!!! Afro-cuban, tribal, Detroit Techno, from ONE of the originators.
Random noise generation and Octave one are the same thing..indeed they re Burden brothers, they composed Blackwater that is one of the most played track on the electronic dancefloors all over the world...

I can make good sound come out of a sampler and a PC by just falling on it. Three turntables though, now that shit is an ART!!!!!!!!!!!
Romanflight 2 years ago
Yes! I agree! Jeff has a way of putting me on edge and getting the adreanaline pumping - even if he does beat slap - which is intentional :-D
scottrobb1982 2 years ago
you might be able to make good sound, but can you make a good beat?
hanseich 2 years ago
No offence, and i dont mean to step on any toes here, but:
Doesnt he constantly miss the beat sync? I can hear the "drrrun drrrun drunn drunn" instead of "dun dun dun dun".
Awesome music tho.

perhaps for a couple of beats, but seriously, you go try mixing as fast as him with 3 turntables... do a vid of it too.

people who gave you thumbs down i think missed what you were saying.
And you are right about house, especially vocal house.
maybe people that dont know true house music gave you the thumbs down.
But i do think mills is fairly clean mixing. but i understand what you mean to a degree about the dynamic
