@ramairezslp Nowhere--I installed the LED signals in the mirrors myself. Dremel tool, epoxy, and paint. You'll need to put a couple resistors in there to control the flash rate.
@NightHowl92 Depends. Honestly, I don't recommend ANY sportbike for a first-timer. I would take the free MSF course and put in one year on something more basic. Twenty years ago I started on a Suzuki GS450E. If you must have a sportbike then this is a fine choice IF you are aware of the maintenance demands and perform them yourself or have the means to pay for the upkeep.
@NightHowl92 If you want a Ducati as a first bike, go for a Monster. Check out some of my videos, I ride a 2001 900ie. The 748 is a fantastic machine, but it is EXTREMELY expensive to maintain (most shops charge $900 for a valve adjustment which is recommended every 6,000 miles) Also, new riders tend to drop bikes, so it's a good idea to avoid bikes with fairings for the first couple years.
"And I jizzed in my pants" I'm about to purchase a 2002 748 and I couldn't be more excited. I had a K6 GSXR600 that got stolen but having a Duc I think will definately help me get over it haha Abso-freaking-lutely gorgeous...and I mean GORGEOUS bike. Every upgrade you put on it is perfection. A+++++++++
@ilikesuzuki No, the valve adjustment had just been done (zero miles since, in fact). That noise is the dry clutch and open cover. Also, the big bass pulses of the exhaust get lost a bit with the cheap mic in a cheap Cannon camera.
Yes, nearly every Ducati of the last 20+ years has the dry clutch. A few bikes like the 848 and Monster 696 use a wet clutch now. The dry clutches make a distinctive noise, which may grow on you. They are FAR easier to work on. You can change an entire clutch pack in under 5 minutes .
oh really? thats awsome. I bought a 748 and gettin it in a month, love the ducs but not a fan of the rattle. What do you gotta do to quit it? just pull it in?
You get used to the clutch rattle when you own one (or several). You can leave the stock (non-vented) metal cover on and it will be a lot quieter, but most owners used a vented cover to keep things cool. You can also run no cover at all, which works well and looks cool with a nice anodized aftermarket pressure plate. I just would recommend NOT wearing laced shoes (which I never do anyway).
It's 996 badges because that's what was available for a reasonable price on Ebay. When I install my big valve heads and G grind cams along with an 853 kit next winter I still won't be concerned with what numbers are on the sides.
who makes the mirrors?, i just picked up an 01 748 and want to delete the dated turn signals

Why does it say 996 on the side of your 748?
CHOPERUS23 2 years ago
As mentioned below, the bike was black when I bought it. I wanted to go back to stock red and 996 fairings were a lot easier to get on ebay than 748.

So are the letters 7,4 and 8!

Have posted a video of my new 1998 Ducati 916 SPS. Too bad it's 10 degrees F and snowy in Chicago right now.

does the 916 have dry clutch?

Please pull in the clutch!
Arrgh all I can hear is that rinky-tinky-tinky of the clutch cover, thank God it doesn't make that sound during normal riding!
newengland72 2 years ago
its called a dry clutch, most ducatis have em, some love the sound
amazingjordan22 2 years ago
Yeah that's what I meant, idk why I wrote clutch cover, but pulling it in still fixes that ridiculous rattle.

amazingjordan22 2 years ago
Yep, but usually that particular decibel level of noise comes from an open or slotted clutch cover.

Also, the clutch makes less noise when the plates and basket are newer. When you are moving, there basically is no clutch noise.
