  • @jayyboner that program actually worked.... holly crap no more beeping... thank you jesus and jayyboner!!!! thanks bro

  • My Compaq (affiliated with HP) also makes the same noise. I have a WD hard drive as well. I was wondering if the beep is harmless or if the hard drive is destined to fail. I need a laptop for college so I need to know if I need to replace the hard drive or just bear with an annoyance.

  • @shapirotess Check out the post by )jayyboner) below, he claims to have fixed his beeping noise by running some prog... if it worked for him, it might for you, as for me I just dropped $60 on a new hdd on amazon (listed in the description) and dubbed my files, and haven't had a problem since.... I put up with the annoying noise for a while, but when trying to do work in library of coffee shop it got unbearable! good luck! :)

  • Update: Three months and still no beeping.

  • Relax, your laptop was just using sonar to sense its surroundings. :D

  • Thanks for posting this video...b/c my computer is annoying the hell out of me...

  • READ NEW UPDATE IN VIDEO DESCRIPTION!

  • HP sent me a refurbished piece of junk for my former broken laptop that was under warranty. I have the same exact beeping noise. It's so obnoxious and gives me a headache. I've spoken to like 5 HP reps at customer service and they all told me to do the same thing--take out & put in the RAM & hard drive. didnt work. Now i'm told to restore laptop. ugh!! tell me if you find anything that works or whats causing this. they seem clueless!!!

  • @Rach84 As i updated in the description of the video (it was too long to post comment), i've replace my hdd with a new one and restored my hdd from an iso file and every thing has been quiet as a mouse.

HP is still running strong despite very shitty customer service, and their recent stock drop due to a brief switch to AMD ram, but even with these difficulties i'd own an HP over any thing else out there... easy to fix/work on... hope this helps ;)

  • @Elitepublishings Google Search: quietHDD

    Download it... FIXED.

    Cheers.

  • @jayyboner Thanks alot! Hopefully this will aide as a cheaper solution for those who don't want to go thru the hassle of buying/install a new HDD...

  • @Rach84 how did u know it was refurbished?

  • @Valdris1987 the wouldnt give me a brand new laptop after I've had my previous one for 2+ years. I can also tell by looking at it.

  • @dumezil357: It seems to work for a short time but then it comes back... usually starting by just a little louder clicking noise, but then eventually goes back to the annoying chirping sound... I'm gonna order a new hdd this weekend and see if that helps... will re-post later...

  • @Elitepublishings Any update on your chirping and clicking situation? I have the same laptop and it started doing the same thing about a week ago. There seems to be almost nothing about this on the Internet. Regards, -Mary

  • @MMary60 nuthin new to report... altho beeping has been more hit or miss lately... not sure if cleaning it has anything to do with it.. sorry.... still waiting to get some extra money so i can get a new HDD... as it is the drive still works and just can't come off the wallet to replace it because of some irritating beeping noise, i've just started turning it off at night..lol... will post more when i do get a new HDD

  • @Elitepublishings Thanks for the update. Mine is entirely random, too, with nothing in particular triggering it, it seems. It's making everyone in my house crazy. No other symptoms--just this crazy, random beeping with a faint clicking sound, too. There are people complaining about it on the HP web site, but no solutions posted. And my warranty expired in January, so I guess their tech support is no longer available to me. Anyway, thanks again for the update. I'll post if any new info.

  • @MMary60 ok... any info would be helpful, and as soon as i find out anything I will be sure to post... laterz

  • @Elitepublishings Wanted to report that (having just SUFFERED with that horrible beeping for the past four months), the beeping noise has suddenly stopped (on its own) and has not returned for two full days (so far). I'm wondering whether a recent automatic update by HP fixed the problem? Don't know enough about technical stuff to know whether that's a ridiculous assumption . . .

  • @MMary60 Glad the beeping noise has stopped, sorry to burst your bubble, but mine would stop beeping, sometimes for a few days and even up to a week, but then would eventually return.... I hope the HP update helped, but I don't have much faith in it... Good luck, and def keep us posted if it did happen to work... :)

  • @Elitepublishings Thanks for the response--I'll post again if any change.

  • @MMary60 Two weeks and still no beeping. Fingers crossed!

  • I have the same issue.... what ever happened after cleaning it?? I see its been 4 weeks since the comment.

  • @Dumezil357 nuthing new... will post back when more info is available..

  • @CleanDirt117 I have tried that method, thinking it was a loose wire creating the beeping, but have found out it is the HDD. I have taken the HDD out and cleaned the connections with Alcohol, and the beeping has subsided for the time being, it has only been 2 days, and the only noise i hear is a slightly louder hard drive clicking, but no LOUD chirping. Waiting to see what comes of it before I post. I contact our ever beloved Western Digital , and they said they would replace it.. Will update..

  • okay, I have almost the exact same computer and it is doing the same thing. Totally annoying. I did read somewhere that said to try just closing the top and reopening and resume use. that seemed to work for me this morning. not sure for how long.
