Gorbachev is perhaps one of the greatest person in recent history. He transformed communist Europe..he achieved a task that the Europe & West could only have ever dreamed off..We owe the end of Socialism and the cold war to this great Russian..Who could have imagined the Soviets voluntary withdraw from Afghanistan, freedom for East block countries, the fall of the Berlin wall, etc

Dictatorship, which is what Russia had during the tsarist period, the communist period, and also what it has had during the Putin period, is antithetical to modernization. Why won't Gorbachev call a spade a spade? Maybe because he wants to be relevant? Or maybe because he longs to see the return of the Soviet empire, which is what Putin seems to be pursuing.

I've lived under Communist and Democratic governments. The truth is, there is more freedom in Communist community. Your society feeds you with a bunch of bullshit about Communist govenrment, so that you will take a credit from a bank and work everyday to stay alive. Here's a question: if communism is desirable and better than the alternatives, why was it necessary to limit emigration - travel even - from communist states?
