I saw Ron Davis talking at Manchester University almost 10 years ago but his presence is still clear in my mind. What an amazing journey and what an astounding man
My son (11) is into day 3 of the Davis Dyslexia Correction Program. He is very positive about going 9 am- 4 pm every day for 5 days!!!! He already thinks he is "lucky" to have the GIFT of Dyslexia!!! His attitude is AMAZING!!! My husband is attending this program with him and he says it's great so far!!! We are crossing our fingers that this will help our son. My older brother has Dyslexia and has struggled his whole life. It is hereditary.
I hate being dyslexic. My brothers can read a book in a day and sit the Exam the next and get the best grades and then walk into a high flying well paid job! It takes me about a year to study a acdemic book and pass the exam just :(
The "gift of dyslexia" book is very informative. Would have liked to have explored the reorientation with some students when I was a teacher. I was at one of the many schools where they strictly enforce a "no physical contact" rule as "child protection", so I quietly went back to hiding behind my desk where it was safest.
In compensating for a deficiency I did not understand ,with out intention I expanded my vocabulary to beyond that of my peers giving the illusion of intelligence to well meaning teachers who had not seen anything like me. The pressure to achieve was unbearable knowing that even if I did try I would fail and let them down their disappointment visible whenever I would see them . I have come to terms with who I am and no longer aspire to be ordinary .I would not wish it on any one .
Today, I discovered that I am dyslexic. My partner said he had known for years but never wanted to make me feel bad so he never said anything, even as he witnessed me struggle with reading, saw my horrible handwriting and spelling mistakes, and even witnessed me discovering how to incorporate listening to my writing as a part of editing.
We all have issues in life and the one of ours just happens to be reading..Learn to harness your talents of 3D thought and vision it is amazingThat being said, I am severely lexic but never had reading issues and I cant imagine what those who do have reading issues go through.....However, you must remember it is only a stumbling block. Whether you are dyslexic or not we all have issues to deal with self-awareness is a wonderful thing
I doubt that very seriously Unless you somehow found a brain surgeon who could implant a linear thinkers brain into your skull. Do yourself a favor and get Ron Daviss book you will gain a better prospective on whom you are..Being dyslexic or having dyslexia is a way of life not a stigma.Bottom line is, the world is mainly made up of linear thinkers so you are a 3D thinker living in a linear thinking world.
There is no cure your just able to work with the disorder a lot better... Its like Riding a bike, you start-off broken and sucky but you soon become an expert.
I have Dyslexia and I still find it difficult to read college beyond level books...
i am dyslexic and i find it hard to read & write, i get pick on a lot of it but i taught my self to read when i was little & i can read very well but i sutter and have a bad memory for information.but is who i am and i wil Over come it some day.:) Good luck to very other dyslexic here. have a Awonderfullday:)
the trick to dyslexia is to quite thinking of it as a curse and learn to embrace it . i stopped trying to explain my theories or designs in words and started doing sketches or diagrams instead . thx to my wife pointing out that i was a graphic thinker instead of a verbal or script thinker . that comment changed everything . i still can't remember names and dates well ,but i can design/engineer inprovements to everyday inventions . they come to me in mental pictures
hi its the shiz i know but in exams you should now that in some countries you are entitled to a reader and a scribe (as i do ) remeber its not a benifit its a equaliser !
and i know its hard when you just want to cry and give up to remeber that there are good things about being dsylexic we have some of the most imaginative minds imagine how boring it would be in anyone alses it would be like listerning to symphonies and then only be able to hear a single note hang in there !
My grandson is dyslexic. I developed an alphabet for him (search YouTube for Phonic Faces) that by-passes the need for phonemic awareness by making letter-to-mouth position associations. Our research shows it works for a wide range of children, including typically developing, more effectively than the usual letter-word associations (apples don't say "ah", it requires isolating the first sound from the "word" /apple/, which means you must already have phonemic awareness to make the association)
If combined with the data mining and contextual spelling of wriiten as that of MS-Office-2007 or even better Ghotit on-line speller, it may deliver a major breakthru.
There is an amazing Bollywood movie released this year which is about Dyslexia and the movie name is "Taare Zameen Par"....every1 who hv watched the movie have admitting crying..its such a meaningful movie about dyslexic child and how to overcome our shortcomings ..do see it on Youtube "Taare Zameen Par"
I agree. Really great movie !! Must see for those who want to discover the brighter side of dyslexia. Wish there were more videos, movies for dyslexics for self discovery because self-help books & text materials make no sense to us anyway.
It's sad that dyslexia is poor understood syndrome often associated with craziness, laziness, stupidity. I'm a dyslexic but managed to graduate from a top school, started several small businesses & made myself a multi-millionaire. I finally joined a corporation to leverage my creativity but unfortunately there too, I'm considered by my peers as lazy, crazy, 'not willing to take ownership', etc.
that only represents a very small percentage of peolpe with this problem i have it and because i don't a have a high enough severity of the case i get no exemption or exception in any of my exams but in art i get straight a's so it can affect people with numbers letters reading writing and spelling. not all but are inclusive in every case but some have a higher severity than others!
I had auditory reversals which led to speech reversals. I had auditory therapy, speech therapy, and phonics to remediate my Dyslexia. I still have speech irregularities and auditory processing issues including auditory input speech lags, poor short term verbal memory.
How dose one contact Ron davis
