  • Hey Gavin. I've been trying to learn Afrikaans for about two months now and i'm failing pretty hard at it because i cant roll my tongue at all. i stumbled on to your videos hoping they would help but sadly they don't help with the rolling. do you think you could make a video explain how to roll your tongue?

  • Dankie!!! This is excactly what I've been looking for!

  • @ConlangFan I'm glad I could help! ;)

  • Dit lijkt op nederlands

  • This language is so easy if you've studied German!

  • @Jeresunatkin I know i love it lol

  • Isn't there an 'e' in Afrikaans with an umlaut?

  • @Crackerkiller5 There is an e with two dots above it, but that is not an umlaut. It separates this e from the preceding sound. So there is a difference between "voël" (bird) and "voel" (feel). First may sound as "foe-el" and the other as "full".

  • @HANSMKAMP Ah, right. Sorry, I kind of thought it was an umlaut considering it's a Germanic language.

  • Thanks Gavin. Yes it does help. I appreciate you help. Thanks for all the Afrikaans videos you have posted. Suppose I could persuade you to make one on the Afrikaans alphabet in your free time? Dankie vir jou help met the taal. Your Canadian friend.

  • Gavin can you tell what the difference is between the Afrikaans words "bymekaar" and "mekaar". I understand both to mean "together" I am confused when and how to use each one. Dankie

  • @Jerubbael mekaar means "each other" and bymekaar means "together". We are talking to each other - Ons praat met mekaar... Pete and Anne are eating together - Piet en Anna eet bymekaar. :) Hope this helped.

  • Thanks Gavin. I've been looking for this help. It's been 20-years since I was in South Africa and I have been brushing up on my Afrikaans recently. I appreciate the language videos you have made and posted. Dankie vir al jou hulp. a Canadian friend. Ek hoop dat jy meer sal maak.
