My Girlfriend use a wheelchair. This video really move me. Just because have a paralysis or a disability there is need to euthanasia. Today, Doctors are giving the option of abortion if the Scan shows any Disability. Not good.
Hi i am planning on building one of these for my old dog Sky, but am concerned about 2 things... Their toiletry needs! Sky is a bitch and so squating is her way of going to the loo, how do they cope with or without squating??
@meyarz Being able to squat or not won't matter at some point. Eventually a dog has got to go--and will. You will have a tad more work keeping your dog clean. Toby's owners didn't care that they had more work to do because of his paralysis. He was always a great dog. Always happy. Always enthusiastic. Always wildly happy to see me and get a cookie.
Watching his back legs being tied up and seeing them kick like he's trying to get the straps off (even though he is mostly paralyzed) is kind of hard for me to watch.
It's great to see that just as people with walking disabilities aren't overlooked and euthanized, animals are given another chance. This is fantastic! Bravo!
i am so sorry for you yet i know how you feel. my family had to put my dog jake down at age of 14. let them live forever in thier own world. my dog jake, the one who was put down, is now living happilly with my old cat, Sarah in his own little world of tlc! god bless thier little hearts!
Its look wery happy! How old are he/she? Its looks will try to walk with her rare legs :) How much time was needed to learn to walk with that chair? Can he/she pinkle and poop while use that whelichair? Very nice sweet video :)))
i love to see this....most people put a dog like this a sleep but why...if we can't walk we get a wheelchair too...to bad most people see a dog(or animal)as something they own or if its gone they get simply a new one...they don't think for options to help a such an animal or its to expensive..
my dog is just like that but he dont have a wheel chair everytime i see my dog i cry becuase he'll never be the same. we might have to put him down though. glad this dog doesnt have to have the same fate. your so lucky that your dog is able to move around.
That wheelchair is homemade. A dog wheelchair company offered me a free chair for Toby. But he moved away and I've not been able to find his owner. Maybe they would give the wheelchair to your do?
We'd like to offer Toby a better cart from Eddie's Wheels - call us if you'd like something a little better for him. I'm concerned about the lack of support to his midsection and the amount of flailing he's going through.
my sister made her own wheelchair for her dog, boomer a german shepard and it broke down while we were walking in a park in london at 8:30. So we tried to fix it but couldnt so my sister carried the 125 pound dog while i carried his wheelchair then three months later she got a new one. boomer always is happy especially with my sisters blind dog boomer respects the blind dog ember but when boomer met ember, ember shook him by the scruff of the neck!! He was born without any nerves in his legs
Toby's a sweetheart, and it was random that I found this, but I live right over in Waltham! When does Toby take walks? I'd love to meet him. What kind of dog is he?
Yes, he is a sweetheart. Never a bad vibe from him. His walks are unpredictable. He's a combination of something, something, and probably a bit of something else.
I don't know Toby's breed. Some sort of cattle dog, perhaps. His visiting times are also unknown. More dog pictures in my book, Reservoir Dogs: rtuh dot com slash dogbook dot pdf
His HIND LEGS, and ONLY his hind legs, don't work. The functions you mention are, like breathing and the heart, the last things that stop working, for Toby and the rest of us.
That does my heart good to see Toby just enjoying life, friends and a cookie now and again. I love dogs. Their love and loyalty never wavers...ever. ;) Cheers to Toby!!
so Glad to see you gave him another chance/opportunity to live life. you could have just given up on him, but look at how much Life he still has in him! He gets to go outside, breath the fresh out, interact w/ his buddies and even get a cookie from time to time! Great, inspiring video. Thank you.

Toby does all the things other dogs do except for those things that require back legs. All his bodily functions perform normally.

can they pee if they have those things on

I don't know much about Toby's history with the wheelchair. A year or so ago he moved to Utah.
Cassady, my incredibly loved dog, died, at 18 years of age, on April 13, 2010. I will miss her forever.
