  • MrSpiraling are you completely OK now ? Seeing you suffering was terrible...

  • give him a beta blocker

  • Thanks for posting this. It brought back some extremely vivid memories of violent reactions from Compazine given by IV for status migraine. I was kicking at the air and moving around in a frenzied manner. Next, I pulled the IV out of my arm, screamed, and ran out of the ER. I was awake for 2 days and finally went back and was given Ativan. This happened again when I told an ER doctor I had an allergy to compazine and he gave it to me anyway! He apologized and treated the symptoms.

  • I think i have had Akathisia. but i am not sure because it was never that severe. I could stay still for a moment but then I would sort of flinch and like compleetly change my position.

  • Saphris made me experience horrible akathisia. I had to stop taking it after three days because it was unbearable. My legs were constantly moving and it woke me when I was trying to sleep. I couldn't open my eyes because it felt like they were permanently closed. My parents said it was like I was acting drunk. Omfg it was just bad.

  • well, at least it's not permanent like Tardive Dyskineisa.

  • For your brain:

Magnesium, fish oil, thiamine, NAC, alpha lipoic acid, b6, b12, vitamin c, folic acid, acetyl l carnitine-these will fix any brain if you can get them in the person in the early onset of psychosis or anything like it....I fixed my son's brain with these despite him being put on these brain SHRINKING DRUGS. He is back in college and normal

You guys deplete magnesium and b vitamins in your body when you do drugs without sleeping which puts your body under HUGE STRESS!

  • If this was caused by a supplement, the government doctors that work in the FDA would be shutting them down the next day. BUT SINCE THESE FRIGGING DRUGS ARE APPROVED and BLESSED by the CORRUPT government agency of doctors called the FDA, nothing happens because they protect the doctors in the hospitals and private practice........You have got to START FILING LAWSUITS against them for physical and mental harm!

Media on their side since they are ADDICTED to prescription drugs too!

  • In the end I was sleeping purely on a benzo and an ambient-like pill. The zyprexa didn't calm down my nervous system.

  • That's 5 nights. Then the 6 day I was given 20mg zyprexa in the mid day and they said it would knock me out. It was very strong and I was shaking and terrified, but so sedated that I couldn't act on it, it was like a brooding inner suffering. I tried went out to smoke and I had to lie down on the bench, but couldn't and I was shifting myself all the time but the shaking wouldn't stop.

  • I hadn't slept for 4 days and was admitted into psych ward, that fifth night i got imovane (a sleep med) but i couldn't sleep either.

  • Akathisia right fucking now very minor compared to the time I too Geodon

  • this is pretty much like what i had expierienced i had it a couple of days ago and i dont know how it came but suddenly i had my whole rightside of my body shaking i hope this wont happen again. The Doctors had no expierience with this, now next week i have a brainscan planned i hope this will help and tell me more how to get cured.

  • I am a pre-nursing student.. Trying to look up the things that I am reading about so I will be able to recognize it if it occurs in someone. I am so sorry that you went through this! These videos of the reactions are hard to watch.. Sometimes, they look even worse than the mental illness that they were medicated for in the first place. I hope you are doing better and have found a different medication to help you!

  • Thanks for sharing this! I hope you're ok by now

  • I had this before. I had an usual need to move.

  • I had akathesia from a non pharmaceutical issue and it made me want to run screaming down the street. It's like a really bad itch that won't go away no matter how much you scratch it.

  • wat does it feel like

  • @Niceboy3377

Like your mind is trying to escape from your skull. It's not just a physical thing, it's a mental thing. It's like your mind can't stay still. It's one of the worst feelings you can ever experience. It's like a form of torture.

  • Neuroleptic drugs cause irreversible brain damage. That's what causes these problems. These aren't SIDE EFFECTS! All people should read Robert Whitakers Anatomy of An Epidemic, and google "nancy andreason drops a bombshell" for a good starter. This guy isn't like that because he's experiencing side effects, he's like that because his heavily damaged brain is shutting down!

  • @M1thotyn I NEED an antipsychotic. It's the only way to stop hallucinations, delusions, and the disturbed thoughts I'm having (homicidal thoughts). I have psychotic major depression and my antidepressants don't do anything for the psychosis, so how am I supposed to live my life when I'm experiencing psychosis?

  • @TheOn3LeftBehind Are you sure the antidepressant came after the psychosis? I'm wondering. Anyway, neuroleptics don't treat psychosis over the long term anyway. The brain makes compensatory adaptations that diminish, destroy and then eventually counter the drugs mechanism of action in the first place. Should google "antipsychotics and chronic illness"

  • @TheOn3LeftBehind The link that the google search takes you too doesn't work anymore. Just go here : .madinamerica (d0t) com - 2010 - 04 - schizophrenia - just replace the hyphens with forward slashes.

  • Yes, doctors with ego problems can be dangerous. The more I tried to explain the dangers of akathisia, the more my doctor would praise the medication and deny the dangers of akathisia. My doctor scoffed and got satisfaction from contradicting everything I said. If the doctor's acting childish like this, the patient must take extreme caution and watch out for the doctor's mistakes. It's like driving, trying to prevent other people's mistakes, and not getting hurt.

  • @bionicwolf1

My doctor prescribed me chlorpromazine and didn't even bother to warn me about the possible side effects. I experienced severe akithisia after just one dose. When I told him this, he didn't even seem to know what akithisia was. Basically told me it was all in my head. I've experienced it mildly with other antipsychotic medication, but never as bad as that. It was fucking horrible, and for my doctor to say that what I experienced was just my imagination really angered me.

  • i'm so terribly sorry you had to go through that, man.. and everybody else.. I say screw conventional meds and yes to cannabis! and if you read about it-- you'll see the truth! People think that side effects are just a part of life.. but the world has pulled over your eyes to blind you about what really was the answer all along.. Yes to natural and no to man-made drugs! They just want you to take their patent, terrible drugs to feed them a lot of money and keep you sick..

  • This was me several weeks ago, I developed akathisia from taking zofran, after weeks of cogentin I'm still crawling out of my skin..

  • Hank you for sharing the story with us my friend I hope all goes well !!!! I am sorry but the perons who has clicked on i like it should get it !!! they are arseholes !!! Lot's of greetz for you all !!

  • I've been looking for the proper term for this phenomenon. I injured my back roughly 20 years ago, and over the next 2 years I was given increasingly powerful painkillers prior to spine surgery. Immediately before surgery I was taking Percocet regularly (exactly as my doctor directed), and three days later I was given nothing. To call the withdrawal Hell would be kind. Lying on top of my arms till they were numb gave me (maybe) a 15 minute escape. What a awful "side effect" for a medication.

  • We need more support. We need to educate the medical community! I don't know how many med pros give me a dumbfounded look when I say "I have Akathisia - please no dopamine blockers." I have even had a nurse shoot me up with phenergan with my chart having in huge RED letters - NO DOPAMINE BLOCKERS. It is like they don't believe it exists. And I am of the opinion this is related to Parkinson's - both are due to dopamine deficiencies or total lack of dopamine in the system. What can we do? PM me!

  • i had this from geodon. it was a few weeks of absolute hell, so uncomfortable, emotionally and physically taxing. i'm glad you're now okay, it's scary.

  • Man, I've only once experienced akathisia that was this bad and I never want to feel that again. I completely understand the thoughts of suicide and losing touch with reality. It feels like anywhere but here is where you'd rather be. Whether that be dead or just unconscious. I still experience a painful type of akathisia in my arms when I take certain medications late. So it's actually a withdrawal response for me. I'm paraplegic, so try to imagine not being able to move, when you want to so bad

  • @sTormyX

    Oh man.. :(

  • is he okay

  • Thanks for posting the video. I hope the extrapyramidal side effects have waned entirely.

I did want to make one slight correction: Olanzapine is an atypical anti-psychotic and it actually "typically" (note: each person is unique, so typically is simply a statement of probability) they are less inclined to produce this type of side effect.

I also want to encourage people to realize that while side-effects can occur with any drug, many of these drugs do more good than harm for afflicted people.

  • Smoke the ganja!

  • Before I experienced akathisia, I was very naive and overly trusted my psychiatrists. After going through the torture of akathisia, I learned my lesson. Mental illness is extremely complicated. Psychiatrists don't have all the answers. Psychiatrists can make mistakes. Even if they make mistakes, they won't admit mistakes to avoid getting fired. Also, my psychiatrists didn't warn me of dangerous side effects of medication. They seemed to think medication was only good and can't be bad.

  • My son had a severe dystonic (akathesic) reaction to Respiridone. He had to be rushed to the ER, but thank God it was easily reversible with Benadryl. It did take a couple days for the symptoms to fully subside. He is now on Zyprexa, and the docs are giving him Benadryl along with the Zyprexa to keep him from developing this reaction again. Thank you for sharing your story and video. People need to be aware that akathesia can become far more severe than just having restless leg syndrome!

  • this happened to me. i was crawling on the ground in the psyc ward and the thought i was just crazy.. very tramatizing experience. i was talking like a total retard... but now am very aware of what people go through

  • thenoblequran (Ctrl+Enter)

  • oh yea I think every doc that prescribes should be required to go through it at least once. They don't seem to realize how horrendous that feeling is..

  • I got akathisia myself by my medicine called Risperdal, but it is not that worse as this man has. I feel something like in restlessness and an need to move my legs, I am beginning to accept my moving of the legs soon and I will hope it is getting over soon. I know how you feel man, I don't have the pain but I do have the moving!

  • i hate when you get that but milder they say it is in your head and its the "illness" no matter what your problem was. they should try those meds!

  • Ive been on fluoxetine (Prozac 20mg) for 4 days now and the side effects im noticing, when i go to bed and turn the light of i keep forgetting which position my bed is in the room, like the room is spinning,i would go to bed at 10pm and wouldn't get to sleep till the sun comes up,when i wake up my whole body aches:(

  • Hi there, i took lamictal 25 mg for a week and it gave me brain damage, tardive psychosis, i am on 2 dangerous anti psychotics now Seroquel XR and Abilify mixed together, these doctors made me worse and they will pay for it

  • oh buddy I am so sorry .... wish you well

  • haaaaayyy.. i want to be there and take good care of you.. haaaaaaaaaayyyy

  • Wow that was wild.. I had it but without the jerks, though I had to move move move.. and I wanted to die & had anxiety from hell & was irritable. Sometimes they think it is just your illness getting worse and then prescribe more antipsychotics, which just make the akathisia worse.. I got akathisia on Abilify, Geodon, Invega, and Risperdal (though that one wasn't so bad) I did not have akathisia on Saphris or Seroquel..

  • mate, i feel for you. ive suffered akithesia too, but not to the same extent you do. its such a horrible thing. hope you get better soon man. cheers and inner peace to you

  • OH MY GOSH, FINALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS!!! I experienced akathisia (although of course i didnt know what it was at the time when I was five months pregnant and then again right after I had the baby, the freaking same hospital gave me reglan twice!!!! I was so out of my mind i wanted to jump out of the hospital window and this whole mortifying experience left me not even able to hold and caress my newborn, looking for a lawyer still to take my case didnt even know what this was at the time

  • And yes, Akathisia is one of the most misunderstood symptoms.

It is not uncommon for people to commit suicide to rid themselves of the feeling. Its that bad.

  • please educate urself a bit more. I wouldnt trust most of the drugs out there. They can actually damage your brain. I dont know how severe your depression or what you are treating is but the chemicals you are willing putting in your body can actually cause you permament damage. Detox your body and look for natural healing. good luck to you and hope you feel better

  • @fornow100000 There is no such thing as a drug without side effects. Everyone needs to weigh the risk-to-benefit ratio and determine whether or not their treatment is worth it. They should ALSO make sure they do their due-diligence and investigate the drugs they're taking above and beyond what the doctor and pharmacist describe. Knowledge saves lives.

  • I've experienced akathisia before. It fucking sucks. Easily one of the worst feelings.

  • @discordian420 I totally agree. I've experienced akathisia twice in my life, and I think it was the worst thing I can ever imagine, it was a horror. Both times it was induced by antipsychotic medications (chlorpromazine and chlorprothixene) mixed with an SSRI antidepressant. Maybe not everyone react in the same way with this combination, but be aware when taking antipsychotic drugs when you are on SSRI.

  • It sounds like you suffered from seratonin toxicity. Were you taking the Symbyax in conjunction with other seratonin pathway drugs?

  • Have you talked to your doctor about Cogentin? I had severe akathesia as well from some anti-psychotics, but the Cogentin took care of it all!

  • @ccrauder Who are you?? Seriously? Another drug will do good in your opinion? GFY.

  • God bless you for getting video of akathisia out. I had it for a night when I was put on Reglan as an anti-nausea medication and it was hellish. I can only imagine what you've been through. The public needs to be made aware of this terrible danger. I hope that you are in better health. You should consider a malpractice suit, especially given that you have video evidence of what you've been through. Maybe you can get someone to take the case pro bono.

  • @Asarelah Cant call a malpractice suit for side effect of drugs. It is well known that akathisia is associated with anti-psychotics. As well as dystonia, parkinsonism and tardive dyskinesia.

  • @Asarelah Malpracitce requires the physician do something wrong. There is no evidence the physician did anything wrong. Side effects can occur with all drugs, some more than others. there is absolutely no way for a physician to know whether or not any one individual will have a severe adverse reaction to the vast majority of the drugs on the market. All they can do is quote statistics. If you want treatment, you risk the possibility of side effects. There is no way around it.

  • omg this is so scary! are you on meds still?

  • I have these sorts of horrendous reactions to anti-psychotics. that tells me that i need no anti-psychotics. thank you for your bravery.

  • Wow, I thought my neck and face was bad with akathisia but this is massive.

  • I know how that feels, dude. Just watching that almost made me cry. I hope it's all over and you're doing better now. And I hope you never have to go through that again. And I hope I never do either.

  • I admire your courage and strength for posting your video. Akathisia is often misdiagnosed in health care and in clinical trials. Had a very similar reaction to yours when i was admitted to the ED for 24hrs vomiting & nausea. was given a very common anti-emetic, metoclopramide by IV. Within a couple of minutes, It felt like i was being chemically tortured. Feelings of panic, thrashing around in bed, thought i was losing my mind. Thank you for bringing this awful condition to public attention.

  • Stay strong, you will get through this.

  • @TheDoctorFluff Doctors don't always believe me when I tell them what metaclopramide does to me. Then they give me a single does of it and I react like this, minus the stuttering, but with the addition of weird neck movements and strange faces. Then they give me some diphenhydramine, which subdues the symptoms a bit. It doesn't make it FEEL any less like torture, but I have more control over the body spasms.

  • I want him on my team when we play Rock Band.

  • This somewhat happend to me when i was on prozac.. I had insane hallucinations and horrible twitches.. the one night i saw a ghost and it took cotrol of my body "i was hallucinating" then i woke up on my floor unable to move and felf numb and was twictching so i screamed for my moms help.. we went to the doctor and after that happend i was tooken off.. B4 that happend though i had bad hallucinations for about 3 weeks. it was horrible

  • Clozapine is recognized as a gold standard for removal or even reduce akathisia.

Need a blood control intensive examination but work 95% of time.

Please consult your neurologist about this medicine and how it could be used.

  • HI I got this and got no medical help at all. I actually got sent home form the ER without anything. Now I suffer possible permanent damage. IDK

  • Thanks for sharing. I experienced akathesia years ago when my doctor put me on knowingly toxic levels of an anti-psych without realising (can't remember which one there were so many). A truly horrific experience. For those of you still feeling it, I felt like I wanted to die from the discomfort long after the spasms stopped and it only went away when I was put on some heart medication (or was it epilim?) and it went away. Yet another drug I know, but it was totally worth it.

  • I am so happy that i am TOTALLY off these hporrible meds and just let things happen in my life and go through them!!

  • @zohrats . I am with you on that! I have been given fluoxetine etc to treat depression but resulted me wanting to commit suicide. There was NO back-up on these drugs and the only person who would save me is my wife!

Nobody gives a shit these days, including the doctors dishing out all these pills.

  • @LabRat6619 Fluoxetine, ain't that PROZAC or is it SEROXAT? Anyway, tomorrow i have an appointment with my shrink, we're going to try lithium, i am sick and tired of the extreme moodswings and after almost 20 years i know i can't beat my bipolar disorder without medication :( (sigh) Hope the lithium will help me to balance my life again! Thanks 4 the reply!

  • @zohrats . It was Seroxat. Going by what it did to me, I guess many other people have killed themselves because of it?? Where am I now? Well last Wednesday I phoned the heath centre and told them I was suicidal! Today I am HAPPY enough to fit a TV ariel (antenna) for my sister?? Did my doctor nearly kill me..umm.. through negligence YES!

Hope you find a healthy solution to your health problem, let me know if it works.

I wish lots of love. xxxx

  • @LabRat6619 I am going to start Lithium in one or two weeks first i am going to have to wait for the test results from the lab for my kidnees and liver to see if these organs are healthy enough to start using lithium. In fact i am a bit afraid of what it will do to me, since i had such bad experiences with medications. Of the lithium doesnt work then i will let it be as it is

    Thanks and lots of love,

    Zohra

  • @zohrats . If its any consolation many people, including me have lived a productive life without strong meds. Sometimes things get low, but never as low as when I tried these new drugs? I have taken illegal drugs years ago, but never felt I was at the gates of hell like recently. I know many people on these meds and they say its improved their lives, but they are not for me. Life changes, exercise and healthy eating are my mantra now.

    Take care. xxxx

  • Thank you, you are saving lives by sharing your story! I'm so sorry for you! I got akathisia from Risperidone, Abilify, and Geodon. My akathisia got worse as the dosages were increased. It was so painful and scary I wanted to die. I went to ER. Only people who experience akathisia know how it feels. Like you said, my doctors were misleading, vague, etc. My doctors never apologized. They just knew how to make me worse and made me worse. My doctors have big ego problems and have no conscience.

  • @mordelta Hey I've been off of Abilify for 8 days and still feel akathisia in my left leg. I hope it goes away!

  • @mordelta All to typical...

  • @mordelta Yes my doctors where the same there was no mercy in their eyes

  • Thanks for sharing your story.

  • OMG,im so sorry!

  • Thanks for sharing...I've had akathesia with every single drug I've been on..not this bad..but it was bad enough...

  • I have been treated with Seroquel which was discontinued, and then Haloperidol, which caused severe akathisia, the worst part is, although less severe even two months after quiting the haloperidol I still have akathisia, is it likely to remain?

  • Oh, God - I was so crushed to see this video. I looked this up because I have suffered from long time akathisia. It has been a living hell. I was on Reglan for over 6 months, and now have permanent brain damage. I wish someone could help me. Nobody can, not even my movement disorder doctor. I hope you have recovered. If you have, you are one of the very lucky ones.

  • continued...i want you to know that i know it is very scary going through this. luckily it stopped after i stopped taking the meds and i hope you find relief from this soon. i stopped taking the seroquel on my own and the symptoms stopped. i still didn't know what my condition was called until my therapist told me 4 weeks after i got out of the hospital. my thoughts and prayers are with you.

    L

  • hi. i took seroquel(anti psychotic med) for 3 days and started showing symptoms of dyskenisia/dystonia (a somewhat similar side effect to yours) while still inpatient and under a doctor's care. i was so scared. the more upset and anxious i got, the more my muscles would tense and it got worse. no one told me what was going on. i left inpatient still taking the medication. i had 3 ER visits that could have been avoided if i had just known what was going on and taken benadryl and some valium.
