As an American, I really appreciate the robustness of the Parliamentary form of government... i think it would seem to have the potential to encourage more honesty and transparency than the representative form of democracy in the US. His response to the denial of a referendum on Lisbon was a ridiculously banal, double-thinking 10 minute lecture on the reasons the EU is now not a trading bloc and needs a massive increase in power in order to acheive it's aims.

Thats why the smaller parties in the EP look more attractive to me. What is becoming increasingly clear to Americans is our superstate government in DC doesn't work anymore. It takes years of hard work to get a bill passed through our Congress while the world outside moves at an ever-increasing pace. The bill that ends up being passed has been so forcefully compromised to win votes, it hardly resembles it's original shape. Large beauracratic governments simply cannot cope.
