Yes, this is the best version of this song. No one should even try to sing this song. Just give it up to the CLEAR, YOUNG Aretha with the merging voices from pop culture of the 60s
@TheOscar111288 Just because the intent may have been to praise, doesn't remove the racist sentiment of that statement. And it matters not whatever is your race.
Would you say Enrico Caruso, John McCormack, Frank Sinatra, Maria Callas, Rosemary Clooney, Hank Williams, Tony Bennett, The Everly Brothers, Patsy Cline, Barbra Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Van Morrison, Luciano Pavarotti, and Jackie Evancho, all Caucasians, of varying musical genres, can't or couldn't sing well?
@TheOscar111288 While there are many fine "African-American" singers, there are also many of that race who may not sing a note in key at all.
Although, to some extent, there may be a factor known as inherent or natural talent, in most cases great singing boils down to training.
And the reason it appears many more "African-American" singers are superior to Caucasian singers is the gospel/church singing experience many of the former group have had.
@TheOscar111288 Culturally, also, young Italian males had great training from street-corner singing in the jazz and doo wop eras, singers such as Bobby Darin, Dion Dimucci, Frankie Valle, etc.
Besides which, if all "African-Americans" may sing well, why would Milli Vanilli have had to hire two other "African-American" singers to dub singing in their recording sesions? Answer: Because not all African-Americans may sing well.
@TheOscar111288 A younger Caucasian who has had voice training, sung in a church, community and/or school chorus many years, and/or may afford private vocal lessons, may turn out to be just as good a singer as any "African-American."
This is quite a twist of how I thought Aretha might choose to deliver this song. Nevertheless, It turned out nice and sound really pretty and cheerful.
Well right now it's August 1, 2011 and I am listening to Christmas music as I clean the house I don't know why I just can't get enough of it, it just gives me a special feeling inside (:
@LaurenCoxOfficial it's two thing s celebrating the breaking of the bread with Native Americans and the Europeans who had recently gotten to America. Second its a holiday to thank who ever you worship for evrything. and it is fun its all about Family and FOODD. Its one of those holidays that keep us Americans looking so shapely (if you know what i mean)
@LaurenCoxOfficial i think it's more or less a U.S holiday usually last thursday of november where we thank for the things that has pass though the year privous.....
that anyone all over the world can see what you are saying, maybe Aretha Franklin herself. The song is on the Aretha Franklin Christmas album. The album is very hard to find in the decade of 2010. Please be very careful. This is not the decade of the 60s.
One of my favorite Christmas Songs ever. I love this song. bulls7123 is right. And i absolutly love the begining. Merry Christmas everyone. Enjoy the greatest time of the year. Christmas is all about love, family, and giving. Groove on by the fire Aretha. And a very MERRY CHRISTMAS to all!
@crazylikeafox416 I agree, And even as a rock & roller, I don't necessarily always prefer the rock or rhythm & blues version of a Christmas song. Sometimes the traditional version just may not be beaten.
But in this case, Aretha really made this a more beautiful tune. She respects the melody, without bringing in her trademark, gospel-influenced "Respect" into the arrangement. This tune calls for a lighter touch. And I can see the snowflakes falling every time I hear this.
A fine arrangement ... with one exception -- when she says "Later on, we'll conspire as we ???? by the fire." Now, boys and girls, no matter how much you enjoy the singing of the Queen of Soul, that's one of the most ridiculous utterings of the word "dream" ever to leave the lips of a human being. It sounds more like "droom" or "groom", but certainly not "dream". Other than that, mighty fine.

Aretha Franklin is one of the best singers to ever grace the microphone.

This was cut before she had all the hits with Atlantic records.
A lot of people couldn't believe this was Aretha when they heard this.
A true holiday classic.
