This is so weird. I tried to post this once but here goes again. I was about 6 years old, and me and my brother heard this song on the radio and we thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Then we tried to get the record and we couldn't communicate what we'd heard. In a way - this ls like early electronic music. Anyway, very cool - and thanks for posting :)
When bad things happen to people, they quite often ask "Why me? Why has this happened to me?" But by asking this question, they are implying that this would be okay if it happened to someone else. I think that if something bad happens to someone, they should ask "Why anyone?" Why should anyone have to die of cancer? Why should anyone have to live with a disability? Why should anyone get paralyzed? That is what I am asking.
@clemmy33 HAHA Yeah this ones been going on for months...'Its Lonesome in this old town, everybody puts me down, im a face without a name, just walking in the rain going back to Houston, Houston, Houston:) (Dean Martin)
One of the odder videos from MTV's early days. Play this one and "Silent Running" from Mike and the Mechanics, and you have a good argument against drug use by video directors...:)
@Purplemania Definately. Another odd, whacked out video was for the Herbie Hancock instrumental Rockit .Early MTV video pioneers were stoners for sure.
@abcdef53015 Actually the Rocket crashed in the barren fields of Kasakistan, back in 2004, this strange new album that rocked from Planet P Project called 1931 (Go Out Dancing Pt1) It would be 4 Years later in 2008 that Levittown (Go Out Dancing Pt2) was released and in 2010, the final part, Out in the Rain, ending the Go Out Dancing Trilogy as well as the End of the Planet P Project era. The three PPP cds as well as this one, and pink world are availabe at truebeliever .de
"Shustin, can you hear me? If not, go to Shuntsville."
This was of course, uttered by Tom Shanks, in Apollo Shurteen. Luckily, the Shubble Telescope had not yet been launched, or else they might have shit it.
@alkimst13 yeah, it was some kind of astronaut wife thing she had going on. you could almost smell her perfume by just watching the video. definitely boner inducing

"QUOTE ..Tony Carey to Me..12/23/10

@Madcappiper Honestly who gives a shit music should be interpreted if they want to sing shusten knock yourself out. all that matters is the song kicks ass!
Wow, this was one of the first videos that MTV aired when it came online. Haha...I was so frikin' ripped. Great song. Just as an aside, why are people on here argueing over what words Tony used? Who gives a shit. Enjoy the song...it's awesome.
Ya know, I always thought it was Shuston, too, but if you listen closely at 2:36 you can hear him say "He won't be back this way 'til 2010..." and his "H" is the same. Sounds like there is an "s" in front of it...but there isn't. ;)
So....did he ever get back this way??? It's 2011...lol... Funny how 2010 seemed so far away at the time.....
Heh, it's funny, 25 years ago I would have sworn it was Houston as well, but there's no doubt that's Shusten. Just another example of how we take patterns we know and apply them as close as we can to the things we perceive. NO ONE from South East Texas would think that is anything other than Houston without extreme argument or expatriation for 12 years.
@austlander Your being influenced dude, ive even bought this up with Tony and he said it was foolish, he says Houston, nothing else. Case closed.....So no matter how your mind is accepting that word, in the end you may as well sit back and realize that if the vocalist says he says Houston, he said Houston:)
I can't believe people argue about this...it's Hyewston CLEARLY...every time I listen to it, and I was right in front of the radio the first day I heard it back 'round 1982 or so...lol.BUT...a little more flange, a little more effect on the mike makes it SOUND like Shewston...
@BoosterTerrick1 Yeah really, 'yes bye we comes from Uston, Houston We Have A Problem (HewSton) we have a problem. Take a listen to the remaster, good stuff:)
Funny story. My 12 year old daughter was listening to this song with me in my car and after it was over she asked me, "so, what happened to that woman in the song? If she came back last year, where is she now?" Left me totally speechless, first of all, I didn't think she was paying attention because it was a "song daddy likes" and quite honestly I didn't know what to tell her except it was written a long time ago. She does like this song a lot now. Makes me happy.
Just so you know....Tony is from Clovis, CA. Nothing German about this song, although his partner and producer was. It IS Houston and is still one of the best songs ever!!! Love you Tony, Kaye and Angie (my God, you're 29 now!)...always will.
The main concern/question regarding this multi talented artist is does he say Shusten or Houston in this song`s lyrics. I can tell you officially he says Houston! Period-end of debate or discussion! Just Google it for your own proof. I admit, you can listen to this song a thousand times and swear as you do it definitely sounds like Shusten (which is a very obscure female name) every time. Just like the Jimmy Hendrix song "Purple Haze" where it sounds like "Scuze Me While I Kiss This Guy" is SKY!
For those of you who are NOT entertainers, accentuated words take on a different sound in the studio, such as Mean Streech, instead of Mean Streak, by Y&T. Tape record yourself saying Houston, but hold the H for a few seconds, and you get the same sound.
It's HOUSTON, not Shustin, any more than CCR says "There's a bathroom on the right."
@dahanks1 He's definitely saying Houston as you stated. Just wanted to back you up here. This is a song about going to the moon. Houston hosts a control center for NASA or at least used to. Shuston my ass! ROTFL! Why the hell would he be saying Shuston? Also if I remember correctly the original release of the CD had the lyrics sheet included.
Another song that comes to mind is the Dokken song "Kiss of Death" where Don Dokken says "Like a fallen ANGLE with the devils charms". I've listened to it dozens of times and he only says it once, the rest of the time he says "angel"
The last guy who left here, won't be back until 2010!!! He left when I was my son's age, assuming he left the year this song came out. Still waiting on him.
@kyle00kris It's a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey. At the end, Bowman (the main character) seemingly vanished to those here on Earth. He starts showing up again in 2010, which was the sequel and published a year before this song was released.
gosh. . .so many people think he says "houston can you hear me?" but it's Shusten. my mom used to play this a million times over when i was little and so did my uncle. now i'm almost 18, and my uncle's son who just turned 19 is going to have a baby in july. they're almost positive that if it's a girl they're naming it Shusten as a memorandum to my mom who passed when i was 9. this song is really special to me and listening to it just made my day :)
@HarshyGurl I have played this song over the years in radio and just personally, and i just noticed what you said, about sounding like Shusten. I just fired off a message to the 'people think HE says' Tony Carey to talk about because if it is, lot of singer longers have really been messing up, ive always thought it was a drag on Houston, but it certainly sounds like theres an S in there, will get back to you.....all lyrics say Houston...mm :)
Your right! After reading your comment i listened to it again .... thinking about the girl i left behind, shusten can you hear me or have i lost my mind.... thanks i never would have caught that.
@HarshyGurl ya i noticed that when i listened to it again.(good catch) but i think it may be almost a lisp because when tony carey says he in the song it also sounds like hes adding a 'sh' sound to it. but thats just what i think.
Hmmm, That's strange because I have a european copy of this on cassette from the early 80's which has the lyrics to this printed on the inside cover.. That said you might want to have your uncle's son rethink the whole naming his kid Shusten Idea. Because in the lyrics I have it says Houston.. And on every lyrics site online it also says Houston. Also, I believe you mean a memorial, not a memorandum.
@bengalfan3 Some of tonys best work is on Live in Germany with Rainbow, yes Ritchie, at the time Ritchie's son, JR Blackmore was roughly 12 and now Tony is playing with Ritchies son, and Ela, on cd that is just being released. For more information head to Tonys Website truebeliever.de There are interiviews here with Tony and he talks about working with Dio and Ritchie. Anything you want to see, check my page, under favorites you will find some vids of Tony and Over the Rainbow
@bengalfan3 back in the day i really loved thios video it still has the impact that it had om in the day i loved them masters of the early 80s what do you think?.
One fact has been left out about PPP. The original name was: Panet P, not Planet P Project. If I remember correctly it was a legal matter that forced the added "Project" part of the title. I had the original cassette and it was indeed Planet P.
@jpbiker300 You so right jp, i have couple copies of original lp which was Planet P. It wasnt on shelves long Geffen Records were sued because the name resembled theres, a disco band called 'Planet Patrol'. for copyright infringment , and Tony put the Project there and has used every sense, this time he named the album Planet P by Planet P Project. Hope i tacked a little more on there
Damn...I miss the golden age of MTV. This entire debut album ("Planet P Project") is just fantastic, really. Tony Carey is a real talent. Dig the rhythm guitar track and those Daryl Stuermer wang bar tricks!
@woodmanship Tony will be happy to hear the story of your gspot one day haha. Check out the tube site here, my off myspace, and his official website of Tony Carey or Planet P Project. there truebeliever.de Planet P released two cds this one and Pink World, now there are three more a trilogy. Check the website, my tube for videos, and myspace for hundred of songs full albums, including this one:) Ciao Woodman
Guys, if you like this song, you need to check out Tony Carey's other early stuff. My favorite is "A Fine, Fine Day (For a Reunion). See this video. It's a concept piece that actually holds up through the test of time.
@michael08huff Check out My Tony Carey/ Planet P Project. Music from years gone by like a Fine Fine Day or albums such as Pink World. Tony has just released his latest cd, with 35 under his belt and still kicking it out you have to here more
@rortega474 My friend, this is the original release of Why Me from the self titled album Planet P Project. One more video and song were released from this lp entitled Static:)
There is a fan video on here, many as a matter of fact. I have two copies of this video on youtube and myspace, facebook...but none the less, it is the original from 1984. The second one i have on here is same video just better quality. everythings under Pinkwrld :)
@SFAKattack10 WHERE KRULL:):) TELL ME HAHA, Yes thats Tony singing, but he didnt appear in any of the Planet P Project albums, this one and Pinkwrld. Due to contractual agreements. At that time Tony was promoting West Coast Summer Nights with videos and Some Tough City. Ciao

Great song, execrable video. The fan-made one with scenes from Apollo 11 is 100x better.
I have been a fan of Tony Carey since his days in Rainbow, and bought this album when it first came out, along with Pinkworld (which was really weird), et al.
the last man to be here was never heard from again, he won't be back this way till 2010. well, it has been more then a quarter of a century since i first heard this song (about this special man) in tape-cassette backed in 1982, well, i guess this Particular Man will turn-out any minute now, since today is 20th September, 2010.
Spencer, Spencer, Spencer where have you been, the Singer Tony Carey
A Fine Fine Day (For a Reunion) actually is Planet P, the sing my friend has put out 32 more cds since the release of this the first self titled Planet P Project album, included two hits, Why Me and Static, big during the MTV years, along with Pink World. Tony's website is truebeliever.de, cds, dvd, mp3 download
He never went away, and now we have 5 Planet P Project cds. As well Carey was the first keyboardist with 'RAINBOW'
one hell of a song. very original dont think i ever heard a song like it where did this band go when it came out thought this group would never die the out of this world miss this band(singer)
@jimbobo1000 not a problem, but if you didnt know, thats the keyboardist for Rainbow singing, Tony Carey, the original with Ritchie, Ronnie (rip) Cozy Powell (rip)
Tony Carey being the first of all. there so much more to know check his website at
I was looking for Why Me by Golden Earring and came across this.It is the same song but G.E. released it in 1976 on their To The Hilt LP.I wonder who wrote this.
What we need is a N.a.s.a shuttle and a pilot to jam to this outside during a space walk, that would be cool. N.a.s.a would be pissed, but what a ride.
@thorn35 thorn you have to listen to the rest of this cd, Tonys music or PPP, same dude, while having solo career, he took on starting a band to start this cd, afterwards he did most himself, i have put some up on my site here, you tell me what do you really think when you hear them. it wasnt pop or goth or any of the things you mentioned, all us fans just call it space music haha, it is very computer oriented but great music, some tracks you can listen to are, Only You And Me, Tranquility base:
geiler sound ! geiles video ! find die maxi sogar noch etwas besser, der sound ist am 4. sept 2010 im scala ottobrunn wieder zu hören, da gibts wieder die sugar rocknacht
This is so weird. I tried to post this once but here goes again. I just fired off a message to the 'people think HE says' Tony Carey to talk about because if it is, lot of singer longers have really been messing up, ive always thought it was a drag on Houston, but it certainly sounds like theres an S in there, will get back to you.....all lyrics say Houston...mm :)

@HarshyGurl
Sorry to burst your bubble ....It's Houston....read the lyrics below ......
sittin' up here
watchin' all the lights blink down below the earth is turning
why does it go so slow
thinkin' bout the girl I left behind
Houston can you hear me
or have I lost my mind
motiondetector123 1 year ago
@HarshyGurl
Your right! After reading your comment i listened to it again .... thinking about the girl i left behind, shusten can you hear me or have i lost my mind.... thanks i never would have caught that.
stemfighter 1 year ago
@HarshyGurl ya i noticed that when i listened to it again.(good catch) but i think it may be almost a lisp because when tony carey says he in the song it also sounds like hes adding a 'sh' sound to it. but thats just what i think.

@HarshyGurl

Tony Carey, was the keyboard player for Richie Blackmore's" Rainbow",before he went solo..
bengalfan3 1 year ago
@bengalfan3 Some of tonys best work is on Live in Germany with Rainbow, yes Ritchie, at the time Ritchie's son, JR Blackmore was roughly 12 and now Tony is playing with Ritchies son, and Ela, on cd that is just being released. For more information head to Tonys Website truebeliever.de There are interiviews here with Tony and he talks about working with Dio and Ritchie. Anything you want to see, check my page, under favorites you will find some vids of Tony and Over the Rainbow

In the 1980's, 2010 was still a long way away. I still remember watching Radio 1990, when that date was in the future as well.

Why isn't Tony Carey a household name? All his stuff is freakin' awesome!
krull121 1 year ago
One fact has been left out about PPP. The original name was: Panet P, not Planet P Project. If I remember correctly it was a legal matter that forced the added "Project" part of the title. I had the original cassette and it was indeed Planet P.
jpbiker300 1 year ago 3
@jpbiker300 You so right jp, i have couple copies of original lp which was Planet P. It wasnt on shelves long Geffen Records were sued because the name resembled theres, a disco band called 'Planet Patrol'. for copyright infringment , and Tony put the Project there and has used every sense, this time he named the album Planet P by Planet P Project. Hope i tacked a little more on there

Great song, execrable video. The fan-made one with scenes from Apollo 11 is 100x better.
I have been a fan of Tony Carey since his days in Rainbow, and bought this album when it first came out, along with Pinkworld (which was really weird), et al.

the last man to be here was never heard from again, he won't be back this way till 2010. well, it has been more then a quarter of a century since i first heard this song (about this special man) in tape-cassette backed in 1982, well, i guess this Particular Man will turn-out any minute now, since today is 20th September, 2010.

how would you classify this? Goth? New Wave? 80s alternative? i dont know but i like it alot!
thorn35 1 year ago
@thorn35 thorn you have to listen to the rest of this cd, Tonys music or PPP, same dude, while having solo career, he took on starting a band to start this cd, afterwards he did most himself, i have put some up on my site here, you tell me what do you really think when you hear them. it wasnt pop or goth or any of the things you mentioned, all us fans just call it space music haha, it is very computer oriented but great music, some tracks you can listen to are, Only You And Me, Tranquility base:
