That PKM's maximum range is about 1400 m and rounds shouldn't be spreading that much, plus the armored up HMMWVs they were in merely get scratched from a round like that with, from long range, plus RPG range is pretty iffy after 300 rounds so theres no point in even trying

Afghanistan is no place for a HUMVV...not even the strykers and IFVs like Bradley. The Fighting has to be done on foot in these areas. The Soviets failed because they didn't get out of their APCs.

As fail as that was, they were lucky. That was a superb ambush position and they used a suprising amount of RPGs. Each one of those humvees could have easily been hit had they used better aim (and the RPG-7's lack of accuracy makes it even harder). Good to hear no soldiers were harmed.

Massoud's victories were not "due" to the aid received from the Americans, it was due to his own genius.
@M11ty Gulbudin received 80 percent of all funding, arms and training from the Americans yet he could not achieve a single victory. Ahmad Shah Massoud's received maybe 1-2 percent of that and was able to defeat the Russians numerous times due to his tactical superiority. Obviously, American aid was not an integral factor in Massoud's victories.
Attack Pakistan ! There controlling it from there, dont give them a place were they can be safe and reorganize. The taliban dont like drones so use more drones. In this case were they hide come out and hide again you need a constant situation awareness. Create a safe zone for people who doesn't like the taliban so you can work in area's and wont kill civilians that much. Send more troops put more pressure on the Afghan-Paki government and be less friendly because this is a very cruel society.

The only thing why there missing so much is because the range. A RPG is made for close range battle 400m effective range. We have to change our tactics "there cowards". using IED's, mines, shooting from safe distance, not giving away there identity but mixing up with locals and using childeren as shield. @triefnass A smoke screen isn't smart in this situation. When you have a open terrain you can do this. In this scenario the smoke screen will be to close. It's a small route and a large way down. It's beter that you can see were you drive also the smoke will give you breathing problems. A smoke screen is done when they pull back so they dont have to stay in the smoke. But when you need to shoot back it's beter without smoke so you can see to. ;-)

@shellback1970 Winning might be the wrong word, probably should have said that they are just persistant and even though you can control all important locations, drive them into caves etc they are still there and will be for many years to come.. I wish we could win the war and go home but i don't see it in the future, a withdrawal of NATO forces seems more likely, eventually... hopefully ANA can stand up against them themselves by then and if that happens, i consider that we have won.

As fail as that was, they were lucky. That was a superb ambush position and they used a suprising amount of RPGs. Each one of those humvees could have easily been hit had they used better aim (and the RPG-7's lack of accuracy makes it even harder). Good to hear no soldiers were harmed.

Eighty percent of the funding, arms and training that the Americans provided went to Gulbudin, an incompetent, fundamentalist rebel leader that did not win any significant battles. Search up, Ahmad Shah Massoud. He is a guerrilla genius and he defeated the Soviets in a multitude of battles while almost getting no aid from the Americans or any other external source. He was the reason, the Soviets were defeated. Look it up.

@M11ty Actually no they did not retreat due to the fear of America entering the war. America would not risk an all-out war with the Russians which is why helping Afghanistan was a "covert" operation. No, America's aid to Ahmad Shah Massoud was insignificant, especially considering he was fighting a super power that had never been defeated before. Massoud's victories were not "due" to the aid received from the Americans, it was due to his own genius.

@M11ty Gulbudin received 80 percent of all funding, arms and training from the Americans yet he could not achieve a single victory. Ahmad Shah Massoud's received maybe 1-2 percent of that and was able to defeat the Russians numerous times due to his tactical superiority. Obviously, American aid was not an integral factor in Massoud's victories.

Attack Pakistan ! There controlling it from there, dont give them a place were they can be safe and reorganize. The taliban dont like drones so use more drones. In this case were they hide come out and hide again you need a constant situation awareness. Create a safe zone for people who doesn't like the taliban so you can work in area's and wont kill civilians that much. Send more troops put more pressure on the Afghan-Paki government and be less friendly because this is a very cruel society.

I dont know why were losing against them ? There stupid, ugly, not very professional and doesn't have good weapons. And there cowards to. The only thing why there missing so much is because the range. A RPG is made for close range battle 400m effective range. We have to change our tactics "there cowards". using IED's, mines, shooting from safe distance, not giving away there identity but mixing up with locals and using childeren as shield. They are more criminal then taliban to me.

@triefnass A smoke screen isn't smart in this situation. When you have a open terrain you can do this. In this scenario the smoke screen will be to close. It's a small route and a large way down. It's beter that you can see were you drive also the smoke will give you breathing problems. A smoke screen is done when they pull back so they dont have to stay in the smoke. But when you need to shoot back it's beter without smoke so you can see to. ;-)
