Duke Ellington , Ivie Anderson - KISSIN' MY BABY GOOD-NIGHT

Duke Ellington led the greatest band in history and Ivie Anderson was his singer for about 11 years. She had to give up the singing and the touring in 1942 because of her asthma, which would take her life in 1949. She did make a few more recordings with various unknown groups around Los Angeles where she lived and kept Ivie's Chicken Shack. I really think it would have been so wonderful if she could have made guest appearences at both of Duke's 1943 concerts at Carnegie Hall.

Ivie Anderson has been my favorite singer for the past 40 years and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Like nearly everyone else in Duke's band, she was a star in her own right and she was strong enough not to overcome by all the other top talent that surrounded her every day.
